Want to buy a Rado.. A little advice please...

I agree with Johnny. Be patient and keep your eyes peeled and i reckon you can get a good valver for 1k. -
My mate told me about this cos i'm after some interior bits for mine. Absolutely gutted when he told me it can't be touched. It's in pretty good nick apparently. :mad2:

Right then guys. Urgent help needed. Engine is in, turns over and is sparking fine. I'm not getting any fuel past the metering unit. Up to that point its fine, loads of fuel and good pressure. I've got it to fire using easy start so i am wondering if the metering unit has give up the ghost, or have i done something wrong? Any help massively appreciated. :D

One more thing. What are the similarities between the gearboxes? I was planning on inspecting the clutch on both engines and using the best one. Is this possible? Or do i need to use the whole setup from the 9a i.e. box and engine?
-
Thanks guys, top advice as always.

Sorry to jack the thread but i've just acquired a 9a engine out of a passat and i'm looking at doing the swap for my 1.8 this weekend. I've read in a few places that there may be fuelling issues. Is this gonna be a problem for me? Also, is there anything else i need to be wary of? I know its been covered before but i've trawled old threads and can't quite get simple answers. And time is short.

Thanks guys, i appreciate the advice.

Right then guys i could do with some of your expert advice. :notworthy: I recently got back into the rado scene with my 1989 1.8 16v, the car is fantastic for what i paid, i've almost got the bodywork where i want it but now my thoughts are turning to the engine. Its done 145k and pulls really well, the problem is its burning oil. My suspicions lie with the valve stem oil seals as the symptons are worse 1st thing in the morning but tbh there is always a slight smell of burning oil. I have done a compression test and the figures were quite good i think (all in the green area of the gauge) 2 cylinders were 175 p.s.i and the other 2 were around 190 iirc. It has a cold start issue, could be something simple as it never fails to fire, it just takes a fair bit of effort even when warm. The other issue is a very small oil leak, not sure at all where this is coming from tho. So what to do? Do i buy a replacement engine? I was thinking 2.0 16v ABF with low miles and pay to have them swapped. Should i simply replace the valve stem oil seals myself and hope this is the problem? Or pay someone to sort the engine out thats in it? If i were to pay someone to get the current engine spot on, any ideas what it would cost? Sorry for all the questions but i'm a little unsure as to the best option, i'm not after any more power i just want it running well. Thanks in advance.

It was me :) Not suppised you could not tell the colour its truly filthy atm. Needs a good clean the weekend. Seems to be a few around Stafford. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you guys. What you driving Robbo?

That is one seriously funny bloke. Proper laugh out loud stuff.

Where do you live Ben? I'm in Stafford and have just brought a red valver. What you in? I'll look out for you. I may have seen you, drove to work for the first time in ages last Monday (the 1st I think). Anyway on the way home heading towards penkridge from M6 j13 at about 5:10pm a red rado passed me I didn't recognise(forgot to post it here) I flashed you but you totally missed me (if it was you) To be honest I polish the car more than I drive it, it's more of a wekend toy at the moment 8) So I'm only really in it on a weekend. I'm at ultimate dubs this Sunday though.[/quote:1892by6z] Yeah, that was me on my way back from college in Wolves. Shame i missed you, i probably had my mind on food at that time of day. Gutted i can't make ultimate dubs, Sunday league football ruins everything.

Its a decent motor Dwain, i'm really enjoying driving it. Costing me money already, but thats corrado ownership for you. Lol. I will get a thread up as soon as i can be bothered. Bet its good to get back on 2 wheels mate.

I'm over the moon mate, it feels so good to be back behind the wheel of a rado again. :D You know what you need to do. Ha ha.
-
Good stuff mate  So tell us, what you get'in? Or are you gonna keep us all in suspense and go for the classic 'reveal' photo tomorrow?!! Its a red G reg valver off here. 11 months mot and really quite tidy. I had such good fun driving it home and i'm amazed how much better it feels than my old one. Just been looking through the folder of reciepts and i'm starting to think i've got a real bargain at £650. Every mot cert from new and thousands of pounds worth of work done. It needs the valve stem oil seals doing at some point, but i'm not concerned by that. I am one happy guy  . I'll start a thread at some point and get some pics up.

I sold my last C 2 1/2 years ago. Tonight i pick up my new one  . Somehow the passion for Corrado's has never died, dunno what it is but i'm like a kid at christmas i'm that excited about collecting it later. When my 2nd child came along i thought my rado days were behind me for a good few years, its took some serious grovelling to the missus.

Hi Jon hows it going mate? I've just been browsing through your thread seeing how the old girl is getting on, looks like your doing a cracking job  Looking at some of the problems you've had i feel kinda guilty for selling it to you  but it seems as if your in your element. So is corrado ownership living up to expections? I must admit I've missed the rado but it was probably a little above my level of experties. Good work mate.

I've recently bought a cagiva mito which is a 2 stroke 125 like the rs and its great. However, i wouldn't wanna be commuting on it as its a little heavy on the wrists, not great on fuel when you give it some and a bit of a pain in traffic. Simple advice really, get a cheap 4 stroke and pass your test cos cbt now only lasts 2 years and there making DAS a lot harder in the autumn. But bikes are great so go for it.

I spend several hours a day driving a transit van and i find xenons simply too powerful. I always seem to be drawn into them when on single carriageways and driving towards them and when being followed they often affect my eyesight as cazza said. Too powerful imo.
-
So your enjoying corrado ownership then jon? For what its worth the spoiler honestly never failed on me once, on the button or automatically. Could it be at all related to the window playing up cos i never once had a problem with that either. I'm sure a man of your abilities can get it sorted pal.

If your not happy mate then your answering your own question. Get it done properly imo.
