After buying a VR6 engine to fit into my Golf and finding the head was damaged beyond repair, I have finally got to the point where my replacement head is ready to stick back on the block! I have rebuilt the head and all is happy but I have a few toque settings I need to trace in order to stick it all back together and i was wondering if anyone can answer the torque settings of the following: Camshaft caps Camshaft timing pulley bolt Timing chain guide bolts Mid timing chain pulley bolt - The one you have to take off to release the chains. Flywheel Gearbox Timing chain cover Head bolt tightening sequence including angle tightening Cam cover Manifolds I have basically stripped the head and changing the timing belts and guides etc and at the same time the clutch so if anyone knows any of the above I would be gratefull for any help. Oh I'll post some pics of a badly eroded VR head, its erroded on cylinder 2 from the water way all the way to the firing ring and is 4mm deep in some places! luckily ebay is there so I cound a replacement fairly swiftly :-) cheers

Been on the phone about10 mins ago but thought I 'd just post on here as well. As I said take it easy and hope you are feeling better, and hope you enjoyed the cuppa. Can't beleive it I had also seen Chris only 1 hour or so before this happened and he seemed fine. Just goes to show we really do have to take care and the fact that such a forum has so much support! I reckon it should go in PVW or something about how supportive the forum is! keep well Chris will speak soon!

lol well I kinda need something to replace the G40 and that was a hoot being 180BHP so I reckon this might just do it! seeings how the body is in as good a condition but some of the mechanics are'nt to great this is the perfect project car so here goes VW project number 2 plus in the winter months with no bike I need something to replace that need for speed. Cheers for the info is very handy will read up more into it but I reckon this is the path I'll take.

I know this would have been put up before but what is required for a 1.8T conversion into a corrado other than all 1.8t parts and what is involved? ie are there new mounts need welding in etc? If there are any usefull links I would be greatfull to be past on to one or any info would be great cheers. Paul

Sure did! wish I had that pay out money now from the G40 cos I'd buy them asap. The fan has just given up the ghost completely now as it does'nt even work on speed 4 but will go and buy a new one tomorrow. Also got the sunroof down properly, the mechanism has totally snapped so need new parts for it but other than that it's all good!

Right guys just fit my new heater matrix, just making sure anyone else who has done this got the same horrible smell from it the first time you used it? not a nice smell suppose the other thing is the ducts will still be full of crap from when it blew in the first place. Hope it goes away quick.

Ah east boldon ain't far from me at all. Well if ya wanna meet up as I don't have much of a clue with sunroofs!
-
Where is east boldon? I have a feeling it's going to be miles from me! otherwise I'd do that. Well got the thing working, all in all about a 6 hour job andman am I glad it's done. Nice hot air coming out the vents now, only thing to do heater wise is get the fan working at all speeds again. then tackle the sunroof.

It looks like I'm gonna be hanging around here a lot...

Wahay hello Tom, hows it going. I am now onto my second Corrado just bought it on saturday and it's great! Got a 16v as I need to be alittle more sensible now and the G40 was written off by some women so this is the replacement plus I have a bike now to be less sensible on....lol. Enjoy your corrado they are simply great cars and driving them is awsome. Paul.B -
I wondered how long it would take for someone to catch on  Yeah glad I got it sorted, now all I have to sort out is the sunroof and stereo and thats it a sorted corrado to drive around in.
-
Cool got it off and have the new matrix in. just need to stick the dash back on and all is well. I see what ppl mean though about being a pain in the arse it's not difficult just time consuming. cheers guys with out you lot I would have still been standing scratching my head about where the two nuts were.
-
Nice one! ah yes they are the two, no wonder it's not shifting at all! cool not far now then. cheers guys
-
Hey guys I need a quick question answered. I am nearly half way into fitting the new matrix well I have stripped the dash of all bits and am ready to remove the dash but I can't cos it's still fastened to something! Can some one just run through where the fasteners are on these things? I have taken the ones on each end off (next tot he doors) not sure about the water way ones? where exactly is this? oh and the bottom centre one is off. WHat am I missing Anyone help? cheers Paul

Black VR6 in Hexham, Northumberland I have seen this car a few times, I used to live in hexham and my red 16v is around all the time.
-
It's incredible the difference to any other car you sit in actually! My G40 seems tiny and like a little go-kart after driving the corrado around.......lol. Even my mothers rover 220 which is a biggish cabin. You sit in the corrado and it's great. Deffinatly the best car I've driven for comfort and handling etc. Oh and if you have a VR6 bonnet it's mad cos the the bulge just larks out and makes the front of the car look alot longer.........lol
-
Yeah actually last night I was driving along and it was flying, not sure if it had anything to do with me washing it finally.......lol But it made me think it really is a performance car! go for one if money is tight they are by all means a very good performing car!
-
I have just bought one!! They are a good car and for obviuos reasons like they look so nice and any C is good to drive. I have a POLO G40 with 170 BHP and 170lbs/ft so speed was'nt the reason I bought my corrado cos it can't compare to a biscuit tin with 170BHP!!!....lol Having said that the 1.8 16V still proves to be quick enough for me for a run around car and is more than enough to keep you up with any other car on the motorways! it is on paper the second quickest to 60 out of the corrado's even though and the miles per gallon average at 34 MPG which is pretty good. If you want to drive it fast you will need to keep the revs up near the top and thats where they are best.(which is weird for me cos the G40 is all bottom and mid!). Look out for heavy oil breathers!! this will be a sign of high engine wear.
-
Actually I read all that before checking the car out but thought it does'nt feel like that at all but then it sounds like the same symptoms....... when you corner hard into a left hand bend. RIght I'll go check that out again. What does this thing actually do anyway? is it of massive importance? mine did seem a little loose but I don't think it's flying up and down the shaft should it be really tight and not move at all?
-
ok guys I have just been looking at my corrado front suspension and everything is looking fine and tight etc. The problem is every time you take a sharp left corner you get a horrible knocking noise from the drivers side wheel. It's as if the suspension is loose and it's knocking on something when the front end grips. As I said everything is tight and nothing loose no play in wheel bearings or anything. It's a 16V just incase you need to know. cheers.

Yeah that sound clip is a G40 with the toothed belts and blow off. I have now got the same kit on my G40 but instead of a blanking plate I now have a second air filter caged in the inner wing so the charger noise is much louder and anyone out side it will hear me coming. The toothed belts make a mad sound they really define the super charged sound and adds to the whole noise effect. The blow off kit also stops any un wanted oil vapour going back into the combustion chamber (not a very clean burn with oil). Mine does'nt through to much oil out now as I have got pitstops stand alone oil system on with stops the oil seals from weeping as much under heavy loads so the charger is always nice and clean inside and the oil stays where it should be.
-
Not sure if it' the same as the G60 but on the G40 there is a little siv type grid thing at the bottom of the pipe going into the intercooler, this stops any kind of debris from getting into the engine but of course it won't stop tiny segments of metal.
-
Cool I'll try that, Thanks.
-
It does'nt help that I don't yet understand the way these engines get there fuel, is the air box in some way connected in terms of where the fuel lines go to do they open out to the air box in any way (can fuel get in there any way?).
-
At first I though it was oil as one half was black but when I took the filter out it had that dry type wet feeling(ok now thats a funny one!) which petrol leaves when it's soaked into material. I am sure a little bit is oil but not all of it. It does'nt burn oil at all but there is often a smell of petrol that wfts through the cabin every now and then and there are no fuel leaks along the lines so this may be where the problem lies?
