Hi folks. just wanting to see if anyone's had any experience of TCS, the corrado specialist place that has ads all over ebay and autotrader. they've got a few VR6's i'm interested in, but want to make sure they're all above board. anyone ever got a raddo from there? their website is http://www.townsendcarsales.co.uk

    yeah. i'll keep my eye on it, make sure nothing melts! it's staying off though, one less thing to rattle.

    not the damper, the curved heat resistant plastic bit that curves overthe driveshaft down by the cv joint. it's only bolted on at one end, so even if it's in good repair it will still wobble all over the place.

    after an expensive garage visit to fit a new cv joint and a few other bits, i've found that the heatshield on the driveshaft was causing friction and vibration. i've removed it, which has cured the vibration. i spoke to one of the guys at volksmania in bristol who thought they were a bit pointless anyway, and safe to remove. just wondering if anyone on here has done the same? they're also impossible to get as replacement parts too, by the look of it.
  6. after a long country drive the other day, my corrado suddenly started to make a unhealthy noise. at first there was a clunking/knocking seemingly from behind the engine block, sort of round the manifold area. then there was a metallic grating sound. neither is horrendous, and the car still drives fine, but i can now feel a slight knocking through the pedals, and its definitely not sounding as healthy as it usually does. i recently changed the mounts, and i haven't been able to torque up the main front mount bolt to the engine, as the nuts i have strip as soon as i tighten them past about 30 Nm. the other mounts seem fine and fairly secure, though the engine does also now move back and forth a lot more than it did. anyone got any suggestions before i take it to the garage and spend a fortune on it? any ideas about better/stronger nuts to tighten up to the full torque too?
  7. when i really put my foot down, especially in 1st (in fact pretty much only in first), i get a lot of vibration at about 3000rpm. it doesn't do it when stationary or not in gear. Ive replaced the gearbox mount and front mount with a genuine VW one, and the rear mount seems fine, apart from a little bit of rust. thats a genuine VW one too. i replaced the drivers side driveshaft when i got the car, which cured the vibration i was getting at 3000rpm on the motorway etc (not under acceleration). would it be worth replacing the passenger side one too? would higher torque on acceleration have a different effect on the driveshaft than the same revs under more gradual acceleration? i'm farily bamboozled as to what else it could be. i thought the new mounts would help, but its exactly the same. anyone?
  8. the gearbox mounts aren't oil filled, they're just rubber. think it was only the front original mounts that were oil filled. glad to hear i'm not the only one who has stupidly annoying creaks and rattles at various revs! :D my passenger door's the worst, ive taken it apart several times to cure a rattle, and ended up with a new one every time!
  9. the VT ones are solid metal with rubber inserts, just like a normal one, but a bit beefier. less rubber too, so they're obviously stiffer. replacing the mounts with the engine in, is definitely a necessity, i wasn't about to hoist the engine out to do them! wasn't too bad actually. the front and gearbox ones are easy as pie. just the rear engine one thats a pain, mainly because the bolts are way down the back of the engine and it's attached from beneath too. i found the best way to do it was to remove the drivers side front wheel and get in that way. once you're in there it's not too bad. not sure how close i got with the torque settings though, as getting leverage is a problem. got them as tight as i could go though, don't think they were far off on the torque wrench. felt like driving a cloud after having the VT ones on!
  10. oh dear. that's not good ive just finished a hellish day taking the vibratechnics mounts off. its now got a GSF front and gearbox mount with an original VW rear engine one. it runs really smooth, even better than it did before. the old gearbox one was very loose, hence why i changed it. the rear engine one seemed fine compared to a new GSF i bought, so ikept that on, and i'll take the other one back to recoup some cash. just need to send the vibratechnics ones back now, and i'm done. thank god. so for all the slating of the GSF ones, ive actually found the front and gearbox mounts to be absolutely fine. shouldve gone there in the first place.
  11. yeah, i much prefer a smooth ride than harsh jolting on acceleration etc. even if the engine moves a bit when starting. my idles a little rough too, but think i'll focus on sorting that from now on rather than spending time an money on the mounts. the GSF ones are way softer than the vibratechnics ones, so they're going to absorb loads more movement, which is what i'm after anyway i guess. will see how it goes when they're on tomorrow!
  12. just got a new rear and gearbox one from GSF. they were pretty much exactly the same as the original ones on there, which were a bit knackered. nice and soft, 100 time more so than the vibratechnics ones. i think GSF can be a bit pot luck with what stuff you get, as ive had a front one on before from there which was fine. the 2 of them only cost me about 60 quid too! ive been warned about GSF ones on here before, but then again they were the same people who raved about vibratechnics ones, so I'm going to judge for myself from now on. will whack them on tomorrow and see. the guy at vibratechnics has agreed to give me a refund minus 20% which i guess is fair enough. he maintains hes never had any problems with them before, but perhaps most other people buy them for other reasons than a smooth ride. saves me sticking them on ebay, and to be honest i want to get this whole episode over with.
  13. going to go back to gsf or equivalent ones i think. i cant afford VW ones now, and the GSF one i had was far better than the vibratechnics for vibration.
  14. just fitted all 3 vibratechnics mounts, and the vibration and noise is absolutely ridiculous. pretty much undriveable really, unless you happen to be a drag racer. i'm really dissapointed with them, especially as they cost a small fortune. i doubt they'll take them back as ive fitted them, so unless i can sell them on, it's going to end up costing me a stupid amount of money to get it sorted. if anyone wants a set, even after all this, let me know!
  15. hi all, i've just fitted a new vibratechnics gearbox engine mount, and am now having some problems. gear changes are now really loud and there is a slight whirring noise coming from the gearbox area whilst driving (noticable inside the car). i fitted the mount and let the engine run and settle before tightening the bolts fully, but not sure what to do now, apart from taking the mount off and putting the old one back on.
  16. by the way, anyone know what mounts a 2l 16v takes at the back? are they mark 2 or 3 golf ones?
  17. thanks guys. yeah, i'm thinking i'm going to go the whole hog and go for the 2 rear mounts too. i think because the new vibra technics is fairly solid, its transferring the vibration to the rear, more softer/worn mounts. I re-torqued the bolts after a quick drive to make sure the new mount was sat right, and to be fair it feel loads better when driving. a lot more direct. the rear ones are significantly cheaper too, so at least ive done the biggie!
  18. ive just fitted a brand new vibra technics front engine mount which feels great when drving and pulling away, but now my slightly rough idle is more prominent. i dont think the rear engine mounts are gone, but thiscould be a possibility i guess. It's a 2L 16v, just wondering if anyones got any tips on smothing it out?

Ive just recevied what was supposed to be a Febi front mount from eurocarparts, however The box says "lisse" on it and the mount itself has no markings. can anyone tell me if these are any good, or just the same as the crap GSF ones? If it's no good i'll send it back and try again. may even just sack off the Febi one and go all out on a VT one as Febi ones are proving hard to get hold of.
  20. the ejector seat connector is just to the left, and i took out the sidewinders in favour of a front mounted gattling gun.
  21. i took my door apart the other day to sort out a few bits, and found a large conector disconnected. anyone know what it does? or has it been added for some reason? my alarm and central locking work fine, and when i plug it back in it doesn't seem to have any effect on anything. anyone?
  22. cool will definitely swap the front. its a poo GSF one at the mo. may just do it myself with a febi mount to see if that makes it feel better.
  23. after reading many posts on here, i'm going to go for febi mounts. anyone have a link to anywhere that sells all 3? most places only seem to have the front mount.
  24. the VW dealers ordered me engine brakets, not mounts, hence the cheap price! the mounts are 120 quid each, so not sure what to do now. any one know of any decent cheaper ones other than GSF?
  25. just ordered an original front and rear from VW for 60 quid, which isnt too bad. hopefully will ride like new when they're in.
