  1. Where is the best place to get a Matrix? I understand that it's best to stick with OEM Valeo but are the stealers the only place to go? Car is a '94 VR6. Ta.
  2. I think it's been for sale for a while. What looked like a phone number might have been the price... :) Not many made it outside Brazil and most of them have rusted. Nice though.
  3. VW SP2, made in Brazil in the mid '70s. 1.7 litre air cooled lump in the back. Very pretty, not very fast. Rare.
  4. A few years ago I thought I'd found the perfect car (VW but not a C). Owned by a wealthy retired couple from new, small badly worded advert in the local rag's classifieds, only 4 miles away, massive history file with all work done at supplying dealer and at a good price too. Needless to say, I was round there like a shot and bought it on the spot. Got it home and went over it properly to find a massive list of items that had been regularly invoiced for that were bloody ancient and knackered: plugs, cap, arm, leads, coolant, filters, pads and discs etc. Best bit was the four sheared brake bleed nipples despite the invoice for brake fluid change only a couple of months before :shock: Bloody stupid really as the stealers could have made even more profit on four new calipers, hoses, fluid etc etc. Oh, hang on... that would have involved actually doing some work! I took the box of broken old tat back to show the original owners how they'd been ripped off. They thanked me politely and showed me the door. They had bought their replacement car from the same place, were happy with the service " maybe you're mistaken, must have been a mistake, oh but they're so nice to us, they offer us a cup of tea..." and didn't want to rock the boat. Thieving cnuts like that really boil my piss :mad2: And no, FSH is often not worth the paper its printed on. A nice stack of invoices for decent quality bits is always good to see though.

  6. To me, it reads a bit like " I got well & truly spanked when I tried to race a new RS6 and am trying to laugh it off by making out that the Audi driver was a cock". My translation into English may be a bit off though so don't hold me to that :D
  7. If your car had/has no MOT, it is effectively uninsured. They will check and you will get nothing. Apart from maybe grief from the police :sad: The fire is a pisser though, sorry about the car and glad you got out unscathed.

Good point but how far do you think most of those cars get driven? :) Or, if they are in regular use, I suspect that they have show wheels and driving wheels. the passat and R32 get driven daily. both used and abused! ive not heard any of them complaining about bearings or anything wheel related. tbh i think your talking **** Cheers mate :roll: No need to spit the dummy. I'm not saying that all those cars' wheels are about to fall off but massively increased wheel size will increase wheel bearing wear rate, fact. Although to be fair, width and offset would have more effect than diameter alone.

  11. Bought my C off here in October/November last year unseen at a good price, trusting the seller's description. With hindsight, maybe that was a little naive but I set myself up for trouble and duly got it. I haven't complained. You live and learn. There were so many things wrong with the car and it was pissing me off so much that I very nearly cut my losses and sold it. However, I didn't want to admit defeat so replaced a few bits and fixed the two biggest problems with just some thinking and elbow grease. Plenty more work to do though. I had plans to fit nice bits to the car but first I discovered lots of worn out/broken stuff ( I have NO idea how it got its last MOT...) which I'll have to replace before bolting on the bling and then unexpected medical things in the family have taken all my attention and time since Christmas. This is beginning to change for the better now so hopefully I'll be a bit more active on here and in the garage :)
  12. Fitted a new fuel pump which was a complete swine of a job. Dismantling the swirl pot thingy inside a tank full of petrol was not fun. Put it all back together eventually and was gratified when the old bus fired up at the first turn of the key. Also fitted a new O-ring on my radiator elbow which was seeping a little. Good news is that it now stays dry. Bad news is that the elbow plastic itself is cracked around the steel bolt inserts. Hello Mr Gruven... Tried to fit a pair of new washer jets only to discover that the "Topran" bits I got from GSF don't fit worth a f*ck (don't see how I can get them seated in the hole without bending metal or at least cracking the paint) and that I had heated jets on there anyway, doh! Hello Mr VW... Sometimes I wonder whether I'm crazy not to chuck this old car lark and pick up something small, boring and new - with a warranty :D
  13. Can someone tell me whether the VR6 Corrado uses the Vibratechnics front engine/box mount for VR6 Mk3 Golf applications or the MK2/VR6 conversion type? Cheers.

  15. Bloody hell Glenn, you've been through the wringer with this interior swap!!! Glad its all working out though. Let me know when the black bits are out and we can arrange a time for me to visit. I may need a couple of extra bits & bobs over the 4 cards & seats, if thats ok? Some bits of the interior of my C have led a hard life...

  17. Hi Bill. I've seen the 312 Wiki, ta. Just trying to clear up a couple of details I'm still not sure about. Brakes have got to be 110% right. Do you mean Mk4 calipers only or change to the later Mk4 hub and bigger discs too?
  18. I have a set of 312mm front calipers/carriers on the way and would like to upgrade the rest of the braking system to suit. Questions: Is there an upgrade for the rear brakes using the VAG parts bin? I'm guessing a regular set of Goodridge hoses for a C won't be right at the front with 312s, what do I ask for? I've looked at the various brake disc options available and am preferring VW factory discs all round, is this wise? Do Pagid still make the "Fast Road" pads? If not, what is the replacement version called? Any other tips or advise? Cheers.
  19. Got the thing home on Sunday night. Hmmmmmmm. I've got a long list of "surprises" that need sorting...... Most urgent is a rear wheel bearing, which is the noisiest I have ever heard, unbelievable. Central locking, eng/box mounts and heater fan switch will need immediate attention too and plenty more to do after that. Can't complain too much as it was not an expensive car. On the plus side, I averaged 34mpg over 560 miles including some long stop-start jams and some extended WOT runs, much better than I was expecting. Wahey, I've now officially popped my Corrado cherry :D

  22. Cheers buddy. Want to sort out bulbs & loom next then maybe start going through bushes etc and freshening it all up. Brakes and suspension on the agenda too plus whatever "foibles" show up when driving the thing :)
  23. Picking up my first C on Saturday, from peanut on here. Really looking forward to it :) Will have plenty of time to get to know the car on the drive back home to Scotland, hopefully a troublefree run. Got a couple of changes in the works already. Watch this space...
