  1. Have ordered a new dizzy from halfords. Going to get it at lunch. I guess its the cheapest thing to try first. If it is not that then I have no idea. It can't be where the ecu is can it? Its a sealed unit so you would thing it can't get wet.
  2. As anyone who lives in the south of England will know, it is very wet today! I took my car to the garage about a month ago after it started missfiring really badly on the way to work and was not drivable. They found gaps in the manifold and played with teh fuel air mix. This seems to sort the problem but took a few days to do it. I think that in this time what ever gets wet when it is really bad out is drying out. Drove to work this morning at the missfire returns. It only happens when it is really wet on the roads. I am getting beyond annoyed now. It has had the new leads, I have checked the dizzy and there is no water at all in there. I can't see how it would suck water into the engine so it has to be something else. Can anyone think of anything that might be getting wet. Basically I can put my foot flat to the floor and there is nothing. Then it will fire and run on three cylinders with my foot flat down. If I stop the engine cuts out. I need to have this fixed by the winter otherwise I will never be able to drive it. Thanks
  3. There are 4 gaskets in total on the inlet manifold. 1 at the trottle body 1 at the join between the top part and the bottom part. 1 at the connection to the head 1 at the cold start injector. You can by this stuff which you spray around the manifold gaskets when the engine is running. If the revs suddenly go up it means it is sucking in the spray. Does it only miss fire at low revs. If you get to 4000rpm does it pull normally? This is what mine did. I guess at about 4000rpm the injectors take over and the mix sorts itself out a little.
  4. Could be an air leak on one of the manifold gaskets. My car had the same thing happening but a lot worse by the sound of it. Does it happen when the engine heats up. Mine would be fine for half a mile and then start to miss fire really badly. As the manifold heated up it expanded making the gaps in the gasket larger. This messed the air fuel mix up which made the car fell like it was miss firing.
  5. The garage figured out what it was in the end. Something getting wet was a bit of a red herring. It was nothing to do with the electrics. Basically it was shoddy workmanship. Don't take your car to a garage because it is cheap. I had a new cam and a larger inlet manifold fitted a month or two ago. The car was more powerful although I thought it could have been better. Th eproblem was caused by two things. The gasket on the cold start injector and the bottom of the inlet manifold was buggered. There was a big gap letting far to much air in. He also found that the mass air flow meter had been screwed right in. It has now been set up on the computer and the car runs like a dream. It is so much more smooth to drive. The lesson is don't take your car to a cheap garage. You may think you are saving money but it will just cost you in the long run.
  6. There is no moisture in the dizzy. It is not even old. I have taken it off and it is in good condition. I think it is something a bit more serious.
  7. I have a serious problem with my corrado. Over the last 2 months when it was extremely wet it developed a missfire. Omnce the wetaher had dried up the car seems fine. I look at the dizzy and plugs and could find no water coming in. I cleaned the battery terminals and that seems to solve the problem. The otehr day when it was really wet I made it about a mile from my house and it developed a really bad missfire. It was not firing on all cylinders on idle and when I tried to pull away it was not firing on any cylinders. Then it would fire a little and stop again. Once I got to 4000 rpm after kangerooing all over the road it started to pull okay. Changed gera and the back to major missfire. It has been in the garage for 2 days now and they can't figure out what is wrong with it. They ahve changed the ht leads which they thought had fixed it. After half a mile of driving it started to play up again. The mechanics ahve checked for air leaks, fuel not getting through and water getting in someone and they can't find anything. Has anyone had a similar problem? If they haven't found anything today I will have to kangeroo it to a VW specialist.

    Wet days

    Took the dizzy off and it was nice and clean + dry inside. Went through each lead checking the connections. Could not see any moisture. Removed the terminal from the battery and there was a lot of gunk in one of them and it was not on that tight. Cleaned it up tapped it on nice and hard and now my car is fine. Seems that the wet was impeding the flow of electricity at low revs. As soon as the revs were spun up it genereated enough flow away from the battery. Always clean your teminals!!!

    Wet days

    Hi My car has decided it doesn't like th rain anymore. Since having some work done on the engine when it is really wet on the roads my car seems to lose a cylinder. It has no power until you reach about 3500 rpm and the it kangeroos and shoots off. What should I be checking to see if it is getting wet? Has some one had a similar issue? When it was in the garage they only took the inlet manifold and the rocker cover off so I can't see how they would have effected something. Thanks in advance. (I know the obvious solution is to only drive it in the dry!)
  10. I have done the following to my 2.016v. 2.5" Magnex exhaust. Power chip Kr 1.8 cam (mk2 golf) 50mm port matched inlet manifold (mk2 golf) This has made a nice differnce to the power. When I bought the car it had a standard exhaust on and was really boggy. With these simple mods I now have a car that I am happy with. It revs freely and can hit 60mph a lot faster than before. I intend to get a decat as well just to add a little more power. Getting a 20vt would give you loads more power but it is not really tuning. It is just replacing the engine.
  11. Okay I will tap them back in. Just put the KR cam in at the same time so i am looking forward to the results. Just as well the manifold was changed as the injector seat had a crack in it and a piece was hanging off. If it fell off it would have been good by engine! Thanks all!
  12. Have you done the same? Really worried about just pushing them in. Doesn't seem that there is much to keep them in there. If someone has done the same on there 2.0l 16v can you tell me if you have had any problems. Why was there a clip on the original. There must have been a reason they put it on there. Thanks
  13. I have come across a problem whilst fitting a 50mm inlet manifold from a mk2 golf gti to my 2.0l 16v corrado. It all goes on fine except for the injecters. The injecter seats are different. On the corrado there is a clip at the top of the injector seat which holds the injector in. On the mk2 manifold there is nothing to attach the clip to. Has anyone fitted one before? If so how did you get the injectors to stay in? I don't want to just put them in as when I start the car they will just come flying out. Thanks in advance

  16. Thanks thats very helpful. Excuse my ignorance. I am assuming it is twin over head cam. Do you not need to replace both or is it just the inlet cam? I have a mechanic who will do it. I just want to make sure I have all the correct parts. My cam belt was changed at 60,000 miles. It has only done 35,000 since then. I think it will last another 20,000 or so. Have you put the kr cam in yours? Does it make a difference? I bough a new chip which helped quite a bit and I will probably get a decat in teh next two weeks.
  17. Hi I am interested in puuting the KR camshaft into my 2.0 16v. I just have a few questions before I start buying stuff. Does the cam fit directly into the 2.0 16v engine? Is there a particular year you should get? Do you need any other parts or is it just the camshaft? Is there a source on the net where you can buy the cam shafts? How much work is it to fit the new camshaft? I have a 1994 2.0 16v corrado. Thanks in advance.

  19. Hi I am sure i saw a thread on this a while ago but I can't find it not. I have been looking on ebay at ecu's for my 2.0 16v. The price ranges from £3.50 to £45. I am sure the £3.50 ones are useless and will do more damage than good but I was wondering if anyone had bought the more expensive ones. Did it make any difference? I would like a bit more grunt but I am most interested in the fuel economy side. Don't want to waste £30-40. If anyone has bought and fitted one can you leave some feed back. Thanks
  20. My insurance is up for renewal. I am 24 years old with 2 years no claims. I have a 2.0l 16v corrado. The best quote I have so far is £758 with a £450 excess. This is with adrian flux. Does anyone know of any cheaper companies? It a little high in my opinion considering I have never had any accidents or convictions. Thanks
  21. I have been trying to figure out for a while why my active spoiler works sometimes and other does not. I thought it was down to a lose connection but I have now discovered what it is. When I have my stereo turned on it does not work. As soon as I turn it off it up and down like a tarts draws! What would be causing this? Is the stereo draing power from somewher? Any suggestions.
  22. All fixed now. Idles perfectly. Hope its not the ISV in other cases as it is quite expensive to replace unless you know what you are doing.
  23. The vw garage have called me amd they have diagnosed the problem. My idle control valve is buggered. Parts, diagnoses and labour £199 I have had this car less than six months and it has cost me £750. I must like her as I am willing to keep spending money.
  24. The ecu returned no faults so the garage didn't think it was a sensor problem. They resealed everything as they though it was an air leak. After driving for half an hour the problem returned. It now does it all the time. Sometimes it idles correctly but most of the time it is in between 1500rpm and 2500 rpm. It is really pissing me off now. I nearly crashed the other day going round a rounabout. took my foot of the break and the car accelerated even though I wasn't touching the throttle. I also look like an idiot to passers by who must be thinking 'why is he reving his engine like that'. It is now going into the VW specialist on Thursday. I hope to god the fix it because i am not enjoying the corrado at all at the moment. May go back to the 205's.
  25. I have a similar issue. It has got beyond a joke now. When I take my foot of the throttle the car still pulls along. If I dip the clutch the revs don't go lower than 2000rpm. When I pull up at a junction the car is screaming. The idle is just all over the place sometimes. It doesn't cut out though. If I stop and turn off the engine and the restart it it is fine for a little while. It is going in for a service on Saturday but now I will have to get them to look at this problem. I think it must be one of the sensors sending duff infomation to the ecu. It is not the throttle cable because I have tested it. Thinking about selling the bloody thing as it has cost me lots of money since I bought it. I will tell you what the garage said was causing it.
