  1. in my instance i think i'll wait on the exhaust portion, as i plan on getting a full exhaust system...just not right now. As far as the intake side, i'll more than likely do the throttle body porting and smoothing the intake mani. As stated she's already going in for oversized valves so it only makes sense. I have a 68mm pulley on the charger and have a lightweight (8lbs) flywheel, so that's why i was considering the knife edged crank. In this case i have a windage tray, so it's purely a weight reduction vs an oil splashing matter, but i'm not sure if the mod is cost effective...any comments? I'm getting the block and pistons, etc hot tanked to remove all the crud. what's involved in the weight matching?
  2. Just another quick update post. Ordered all new bearings ARP hardware, lightweight flywheel, TT +2mm cyl head kit, all new suspension parts, and a few other misc odd & ends... WOW now i'm broke again! :( also picked up some 16" Rota slipstreams and will be picking up some Recaro's tomorrow  I'm getting just a lil bit closer to having this thing road worthy... still a LONG ways off tho. here's some teaser pics
  3. So if any of you have checked out my build thread you know my project keeps getting bigger and bigger. Well now I've ordered up some +2mm valves and I'm getting the machine work done for that, and getting the block hot tanked. I was wondering what other machine work you all would suggest doing while she's under the knife. BTW I don't plan on making it 1.9l just yet, so don't even suggest it  Just a note, i have the charger ported stage 4 rebuild from BBM with RSR outlet, FMIC, larger injectors, BBM asymmetric cam, and BBM stage 4 chip. (just in case that would influence your responses) Blueprinting, balanced or knife edged crank, ported throttle body or intake mani... anythings welcome. Please just speak from experience. I'm just wondering what stuff made a tangible difference and what just looks good on a spec sheet. Thanks :salute:
  4. i wouldn't dare think you were serious about molesting a perfectly good carrera with 26" wheels... But you did spark my curiosity
  5. I was looking at this kit from TT http://www.techtonicstuning.com/showpart.asp?partnum=109.912T 1st off, this DOES apply to a G60, correct?? 2nd - i just read up on a few posts about different cam setups & when i saw this it made me question my cam selection. I currently have 2 options either the stock cam or a 268/260 cam from BBM i guess it all really starts with question one eh
  6. well a buddy of mine, my boss actually, let me borrow his welder so this weekend (hopefully tonight) i plan to do a lil practicing with it before i tackle shaving the rear VW emblem and getting rid of a few holes under the hood. i know the post is somewhat pointless, but i figure if i tell you guys i'm gonna do it, i'll feel slightly more obligated to actually get it done
  7. I mentioned earlier somewhere that i was looking into 6-spd swap options & mentioned the 02s. I found out that it is indeed a direct swap & here is the PVW article my info came from. Corrado92.pdfPVW Article - PAGE - 01.jpg[/attachment:2q3ydlns]passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfPVW Article - PAGE - 02.jpg[/attachment:2q3ydlns]climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfPVW Article - PAGE - 03.jpg[/attachment:2q3ydlns]2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfPVW Article - PAGE - 04.jpg[/attachment:2q3ydlns]PVW Article - PAGE - 05.jpg[/attachment:2q3ydlns] hopefully that info will help someone out there. :salute: and I KNOW I KNOW...it's AMAZING ole cheapmods posted an attachment instead of a page busting image of each! I however am tired of the G60 sitting on jackstands, so instead of spending roughly another $4k on this puppy, i'm gonna cut the budget down to $2k and get it running (hopefully  ) Then focus on all the extra goodness. i'm hoping i can get this thing on the road before summer, but at this rate...
  8. Glad to hear you're back! Hopefully tht means i'll find even more useful info on this thread
  9. pff! think you're anxious, I've never gotten to drive my G60 :( but i'm hoping that with all the knowledge i've picked up from the forum, bently bible, and my own know how. i'll have one bad dub. i think my favorite mod of yours is the mesh license. inspired idea!
  10. this car is so freakin' sick! :notworthy: I've been following your thread since i started my project & it makes me want to keep tacking more stuff on to my "to do" list keep it up! quality work all the way :salute:
  11. I have a 268/260 cam from BBM in the States. anyone running a cam like this? what should this do performance wise in the rev range?
  12. Pictures as promised!! So here's a quick recap of how i'm going about this I wanna get rid of this.... So i searched around to find a trash bumper skin to donate flesh & found this which i used to make this next we tack welded the piece in then continued till we filled the seam Flipped it over and used 2 part epoxy plastic welder Then used metal all body filler to fill in most of the low spots. After that i applied a skim coat of regular body filler to finish it off, which isn't pictured since i did that at about 11 last night... My other project, cleaning up the engine bay, got started as well my only concern is that it's just a waste of time, since i won't be getting rid of anything except the carbon canister. The G60 engine bay pics that i've seen show a pretty filled space. I didn't have the benefit of seeing mine in it's original state, so i'm kinda in the dark. So for now i'm just smoothing out the seams and cleaning up the seams for the strut towers and the side trays where the battery and airbox go. other than that i'm leaving it alone
  13. yeah so i said i was gonna be back on the radar, but wound up falling off :( THIS time i'm serious!! I may not have all the cash i need, since i decided to be responsible & nurture my kid & finish up the house :camp: , so i'm back on the case with the "free" (A.K.A. cheapmods) i can do for now. I'm also gonna be selling multiple items that i've already replaced on eBay such as injectors, fpr, motor & trans mount, spare cluster, auto belt setup, possibly rear seats (red stripe cloth variety) and 3 sets of wheels. And i just happen to have a stock TT sway bar laying around too. I'm gonna take the profits from that & reinvest it in the g60. I can't wait to get her finished!!! updates as of last post: - removed and disassembled suspension subframe - currently cleaning & will soon be sand blasting and painting with POR 15 - removed front struts - I need a list of part #'s for all the stuff that needs replacing if anyone might have that handy... I have new shocks and new springs but i want to replace everything else. same for rear. Part #'s?? - further cleaned up engine bay - moved all wiring to the side, plan to do some smoothing and deciding how to hide some wiring. i've seen them hidden in the frame rails, but i'm not crazy about that since it'll be much harder to repair and trace that way. I think i'm gonna run them in the recess where they were & make a cover plate for them instead. - further stripped down the block & organized all parts a bit better into boxes and such - decided to take a shot at repairing/ smoothing the front bumper - I kept noticing the lumps in the rear apron and thinking "i should really fix that", then yesterday i cleaned out my back patio and saw the slightly mangled front bumper cover sitting there. I decided i want the smooth bumper look & figured i'd give it a shot myself. so far so good! & i know, worthless without pics... i'll post up tomorrow in the mean time here's a reminder of how the bumper looked when i got it. Notice how mangled the lower grill/lip area is. i'm still undecided what to do with that. oh, i'm also gonna be selling those fogs and big orange suckers. I know most of you are UK but if anyone needs/wants anything i listed feel free to speak up BTW - Boost, know it's been forever, but do you have the euro belts? I have a set of Porsche belts i'm porbably gonna use, i just have to figure out how to modify the trim pieces & pillar or what needs to be changed out.
  14. well I was still in new dad mode & wound up switching jobs. This job pays much better, but the hours are long. I've decided to semi-postpone any forward progress till i finish buying the parts i need to finish the engine rebuild. namely, rod bearings, piston rings, & new studs. i also need to purchase a new flywheel. if anyone is interested in trading seat belts with me please let me know. I want to get rid of the auto belt and have the standard setup well that's all for now. hopefully i'll have something more to add to this soon
  15. nice pics...i take it you have your own camera now??
  16. nope :( no money for engine bits right now, i'm hoarding my cash. better safe than sorry ya know.
  17. yeah, jesse is awesome. his family owns a body shop in ohio, but he moved down here to work on Audi's. I leave the big stuff to him while i do the sanding and skim coats of filler. I'm getting the hang of door dings and such. Hopefully we'll be priming it up soon.
  18. So i know i all but dissappeared, but it was for a good reason. My wife and i have been quite busy as our baby girl was born on June 25th! Momma and baby are both doing well and i couldn't be prouder! and here she is.. hee.jpg[/attachment:11kpj4dr] Now in case you think i just let project rado fall off the face of the Earth, guess again. lol I've slowly been performing the tedious task of sanding all the panels down to nearly bare status then fixing and filling all the little (and BIG) dings with the help of my buddy Jesse (body man extrodinaire) here's what i've been up to... Presenting.. driver's side fully sanded w/black paint hiding the bare metal. and come close ups of the flat black front quarter. which was painted to help spot what i may have missed the 1st time Also made some progress on the pass. side which only had very minor problems to begin with Finally, a dramatic (oooooo) shot of the end of the day. lol i crack me up As always, more to come. NOTE: body work is quite a slow process :bad-words: WOW!! it's been so long since i posted i totally forgot to add that i finally got the wheels off and made some progress in that area as well. I used a 3/4 socket, my 3lbs mini maul and huge breaker bar to get the job done.... then about 2 days later i found the wheel lock. No harm tho, at least i was able to get the brake calipers and rotors off and got the rear struts out. unfortunately i don't have a compressor at my house yet so i couldn't zap off the front axle nut or the top nut holding the strut in. that's why i've been back on the body work

    JMC's G60

sticky heat sink thingys of which you speak http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/arc-cool-fin-universal-p-45047.html saw an article in Turbo magazine, they used it on the charge pipe, and oil pan. cooled down intake charge close to 10C on an evo ix
  20. :offtopic: further proof of the heat round here top is outside temp...103
  21. what are you doin with a blue AND a red red set!? LUCKY!! eh, i'm still not sure. it doesn't seem too over the top, but it might look lop sided with the red toward the front corner near the battery (which mine will be a red top optima) plus the plug wires and MSD Blaster coil. thanks for going thru the trouble tho. it will no doubt help my decision... Oh and I just used some Rust-o-leum flat black paint for outdoor furniture. I know it's not automotive, but lawn stuff takes a bit of a beating as well, and i've got a good amount of coats on it. should be fine.
  22. that would be great prodigal :shades: this is the only picture i could find... and it doesn't look so bad, the only one that i don't much care for is the small line coming from the reservoir. Basically i need a better pic to make a good decision. thanks for that pic monkey! off to work! :salute:
  23. this is a bit late but uhh.... 1st and foremost, great work :thumb right: 2ndly...WTF! ambient 13C  I barely get that in the winter!! today was about 92F :onfire: and we're not mid summer yet. NO WONDER you thought Dubai was hot  :pharoh: :tumbleweed: :bonk: man smilies are FUN :help:
