Renshaw project (probably going to sell / swap)
mookie replied to 24V Renshaw's topic in Members Gallery
Was the throttle damper brand new dude? Any chance of a video of it in action... God how sad a request is that?! -
You know me dude, mad about Mk2s, had four in a row off the bounce. Now sold up and bought a Corrado. In all seriousness unless it was big power, big grin factor Mk2... or uber poverty spec belly scraping old-school early Mk2, I don't know if I could go back to one after the Corrado? As much as I love them, to me, at the moment atleast, I can't really think of a single aspect the Mk2 does better other than old school cool. That's not to say I don't love them or would never have another, but unless it was a really special one then I couldn't see myself trading up for one. For me, my goal is to have one ASWELL as the Corrado just for a totally different experience.

Also Prometheus last night. 5mins after leaving, I'd rate it 8/10. 24hrs later... sadly dropped to 6/10 once I thought about it a bit more. Wafer thin plot and I just didn't like the explanation for the idea behind the original Gieger aliens.

My First Corrado - Bye Bye Mk2 Golfs! Hello VR6!
mookie replied to mookie's topic in Members Gallery
I'm wanting an OEM+ style to it, without it being too standard... my own stamp on it. I went down the same route with my old Mk2 Golf, started with lots of extras and ended up stock bar the wheels and drop - but with lots of touches that made it individual at the same time. -

No worries matey, I think I might have sourced a new handbrake handle... I think. Gearknob is proving a bit frustrating, as is the steering wheel as most seem a bit past it. Yeah I'll see how I'm fixed at the weekend and try and have a mooch over ---------- Post added at 10:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 9:42 PM ---------- Least productive day ever. Started to change the front engine mount, until I discovered it's got a Vibra-Technics fast road mount on, so unlikely to be causing the little off-throttle jerk from being borked (despite a slight click/clonk from the mount). So made do with torqueing it up correctly, and no more clonk. But a hell a lot of effort for nothing - and a spare new front engine mount to show for it. But nice to know I have an uber engine mount! One less expensive treat to buy in the future I suppose! Then went to lower it slightly. At a previous point in it's past the little set screws in the plastic adjuster collars on the front coilovers, have been overtightened and they've stripped the threads inside the collar  so went to lower it today and found that I couldn't then secure the ride height as you could turn the collars by hand afterwards. Not a happy bunny. Been in touch with KW about getting replacements so we'll have to see. Temp measure was to use a pair of longer bolts as a temp fix. Lowered it another 15mm and then found it was effectively sat on the arches at the front due to the virtually flush offset of the wheels at the front, so wound it back up again, total drop 5mm for today but has made a surprising difference to the wheel/arch gap. And doesn't catch on anything or hit bumps, curbs, etc etc. I'm very paranoid about the sump on this so no mental lowness thanks.... One step forward... two steps back! -
PM'd. Cheers mate. ---------- Post added at 9:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 9:43 PM ---------- Just as a follow up to this thread, following the advice of loads of people I've used a pair of slightly longer bolts and they've worked a treat as a temporary fix. I had visions of waiting days and days to get some spares from Germany... how did people manage before forums like this one?! :)
-
I've just phone KW and the nice lady said Germany are on a public holiday right now so getting spares could take a while... How did you do new screws and holes if you don't mind me asking? The little set screws seem very unique looking... this could be my best bet at the moment

I've just gone to adjust my KW v1 fronts, and I've found the tiny grub screw that fits into the purple adjuster ring just spins and spins once it's all the way in. Using a 2.5mm allen key, it seems to screw in just fine until it is (presumably) meant to lock it against the thread of the coilover, at which point it doesn't get tighter or harder to screw, and as I say, just spins endlessly unless you back it all the way out again. As a result, you can turn the collar with your hand... which I'm guessing is not, A Good Thing :( Has this ever happened to anyone else? Short of buying new collars (can you even get them?) is there anything I can do?

VR6 Front engine mount issue - do I have a Vibratechnics mount already??!
mookie replied to mookie's topic in Engine Bay
The cover was just taken off prior to the photo :) I've tightened down the nuts to 45nm so 'll see how it goes. -
I was going to replace my front engine mount as the car has been having some off throttle jerking, and when you rocked the engine from the front with your hands, the engine mount was clicking or making a light knock. So I put two and two together and bought a new standard engine mount. Except when I've gone to take the existing mount out, it looks nothing like a standard mount and everything like a Vibratechnic mount instead. So I'm not even sure I can use the standard mount I have as I'm fairly sure that the some of the bits underneath are now gone Any advice is most welcome.

My First Corrado - Bye Bye Mk2 Golfs! Hello VR6!

Cheers mate! Not sure the missus agrees mind you ha ha ha ha I think she calls 'attention to detail', 'anally retentive' ha ha My problem is seeing other peoples photos and thinking "Mine doesn't look like that..." and immediately getting hung up on the tiny things! You should see my Excel spreadsheet to do list! -
Just read this from the start, looks mean as hell on those steels mate!

Gave it a good wash and polish today. Wheels are beyond my skill to get as polished as they need to be... which is a disappointment. Clearly haven't been looked after very well. But I have an idea for them... Anyway, took my first proper pictures of the car that aren't it sitting on the driveway. Next task is to get it sitting better. -

I was going to go all red, but think I'll leave them standard for a while. As you say, rear ending is a hazard, so I'd want to do it properly with orange LED bulbs etc. Funny you should mention the parcels shelves... The set in the car were pretty ropey. One side had the plastic bracket broken... randomly someone had bent the metal support that strengthens the plastic away from it, thus giving no support at all. No wonder it snapped. And the speaker covers were manky. So I bought a pair that were intact but very dusty and faded. But I knew I could so something with them. So speakers out, Daisy APC on. You can see how filthy they were by the lovely pool of dirty water... eugh. They came up clean but were still patchy and faded So a light coat of Wet'n'Black later... (left before, right after) And installed! Gave the parcel shelf a brush and haircut as well as it was very fluffy and straggly in places Excuse the MASSIVE sub box! This is getting relocated and hidden away very soon! On a related note, previously in the thread I'd posted up with a bemused query as to why my battery had so many extra live wires sprouting from it... After a good de-wiring session whilst installing the sound system, I pulled out atleast 100m of wiring (not an exaggeration...) from what must have been a pretty impressive sound setup, and what looked like an old heated/electric seat setup. Some fool had actually been so lazy as to knot wiring around the hardlines going to the ABS pump... So without the mess of lives, now the battery looks like this Looks less dangerous/scary/spaghetti-like  -
Yeah mate that would be cool! WOuldn't mind having a look at a couple of other things too, few things I'm sure aren't sat/fitted right either ha ha ha

No worries mate, I was glad I could drop them off rather than risk Mr Postman! Ha yeah the lady who answered the door thought it was your car parked in a random place until I rang the bell! Think I might make it down to the next VagCars meet, generally stick to the DNE meet as its closer. If you know of any Corrados being broken in the area let me know, need a few bits. -
No oil cooler... I'd been out in the car an hour or so ago, checked the oil when I got home. Dead on the max mark regardless of which way round I put the stick in, but I did notice a long smear of oil down the back of the stick when using it facing the engine so wondering if that might explain my mis-reading when cold and the oil is thicker. Anyone know the difference in litres, between the min and max on a VR6 dipstick? I'm guessing about a litre or so? I've miscalculated how much extra oil has gone in the engine since I bought the oil last week - I've actually only used just over a litre in total, and I'm pretty sure I'd used half that earlier in the week to top it up to 3/4 from just below 1/2 on the min/max. So another 1/2 litre took it from 3/4 to where it is now at a hair over max. I'm going to recheck it in the morning and see how it reads stone cold, but my feeling is that I've misread the dipstick and the oil level is probably at max not significantly over.
-
Only thing I can think of, is oil dribbling down the dipstick tube after the dipstick has been pulled out?

I apologise in advance if this seems a bit of a noobish thread... but I'm a bit bemused by the oil level of my VR6. Last week I noticed the oil level was only about 1/2 way up the dipstick min/max band. Not a biggie, but as the car was serviced at a VW dealer in January and it had done eff all miles since, it seemed a tad curious it wasn't fuller. Anyway, I put in about 3/4 a litre more oil and off I went happy in the knowledge it was topped up. Today I went to check the oil after doing about 150miles since the top up earlier this week. And the oil level was off the bottom of the crosshatched area on the dipstick... weird. The car was stone cold at this point and hadn't even been started so it presumably was accurate, I thought. Concerned by this, I tipped in another litre of oil and rechecked... oil level now nice and high in the cross hatched area of the stick. BUT. What I then noticed was depending which way round the dipstick was in the tube, the level was different! If I remember right, with the crosshatched area facing the engine it reads much higher than if the crosshatched area is facing the slam panel. WTF? So if I read the oil one way, it's fine and normal... the other way it's way over the max limit!!!!! I appreciate it doesn't have a straight dipstick tube, but...? Am I being a total spaz or what? I'd consider myself very competent mechanically but this makes me feel like a right novice... I should have stuck to Mk2 Golfs! :bonk: So is my car overfilled with oil or correct? I'm assuming I've misread the oil level as low in the first place when it was probably higher... but I want to be sure first.

I have decided to sell my VDO gauges that were in the car when I bought it a couple of weeks ago. I know they're quite sought after, but they're not my cup-of-tea :bonk: Anyhoo, I've included a lot of photos so you can see exactly what you're getting condition wise - I'm not really sure how best to judge them as this is the first set I've seen, but they're in really good nick with no visible damage or scratches to the front cover or screen. Loom-wise it comes with the multiplug with the yellow wires, it's got a feed for the back-light added (I assume) with the red and black wire you can see, that was connected to the same feed as my DDI gauges. There's no pressure sender included with the sale though. Price: £160 inc delivery (1st Class Recorded Royal Mail) - or pickup in person if you'd like. Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

I put a JL sub and alpine amp in the boot, with JBL front components, and the shelf speakers disconnected... and it sounds excellent in my non-expert opinion.

Momo Race wheel Lovely wheel to use, just the right size without being Mario Kart small like the smaller Momo Team. However I want a bog standard leather VR wheel instead to stroke my OEM itch!

I'm going to ask for the worst, but dull picture request ever in the history of the Corrado Forum... ...can someone take a picture of the bendy one clipped to their slam panel?
