The toll roads didn't bother me too much. :-D
-
That was my view too. I did replace a lot of parts in preparation but it was mostly service items anyway, and as I don't have a lot of history for the car, that money also bought me peace of mind.

Before we left, I replaced the wheel bearings, CV joints, discs and pads, dizzy cap, HT leads, spark plugs, oil and filter, and wipers. Since I've had the car, I've changed the cam belt, alternater, oil pump, power steering pump, water pump, G-Werks charger rebuild, H&R 25mm lower springs, Porsche D90 which were bought silver and I refurbed them myself (not perfect but still look pretty good), changed the plates and done a few tedius jobs like the door handle repair. Just taken delivery of a Jetex cat-back system which I fitted 2 days ago and and pleasantly surprised by. On the trip, we were consistently cruising at 100 mph, and managed to get her up to 130 on a very long French road. Despite that abuse, and that we did twisty roads like the San Bernadino Pass, the only time we had to stop was for a loose hub adaptor. Ran very hot a few times but the weather was reaching 30 degrees regularly so to be expected. A test of stamina passed with flying colours. I love my corrado. :-) ---------- Post added at 11:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:00 AM ---------- I think they did the Stelvio Pass on Top Gear but that road closes at certain parts of the year. I can't imagine it's that much better than some of the roads we stumbled across though.

Finally got round to doing this after 6 months. I got married in on May 14th, and the honeymoon consisted of a 3 week, 5000km jaunt around France, Italy and a bit of Switzerland in the trusty old steed. I think I got more pictures of the car than of the new Mrs, so thought I'd share a few.

Oh. I see. That's fairly conclusive then. Maybe thats why theres never been a G60 racing in the VW cup. I thought they would've gone a bit easier on the G60 in the rules with the equivelancy factor, but they have it in the same category as the VR6 which means it has to be the same weight as far as I can gather.
-
I was wondering how they would compare in almost standard guise. Series like the VW Cup don't allow a lot of tuning to be carried out on the engine. Although it doesn't say anything about charger pulley size in the regs. (hmmm). I think it would depend a lot on the track. Long straights would favour the bigger lump.

Maybe a bit late but there was a black Rado at RAF Northolt for a while. Last time I saw it, it had a for sale sign in the window.
-
It'd be nice to see a G60 racing in the pre 93 touring cars or something like that. Would be very intertesting to see how it would perform. I wonder if VRs and G60s have been at the same track days at any point and how the lap times would compare. Somewhere like Brands Hatch Indy would be a good tester.
-
Were they used for circuit racing?

Has anybody ever raced a G60 powered race car, Corrado or otherwise, in any series or championships? I know there have been a couple of Rados in the VW Cup but I think only VR6 and 16V powered. I don't recall ever seeing a golf or other VW with a G. I wonder if it's just a lack of engines and spares or whether its just not a good race engine. I know its down on power from the VR6 and slower acceleration, but I imagine that the weight reduction in the front end would make for better handling and corner speeds.

I'll take a set off your hands mate if you still have spare. Let me know the email for paypal payment and I'll send my address and all that jazz. Chars.
-
That would be me! Its a G60 but I'll let you off. Your motor sounded awesome man.

Bugger. On 2 counts. Does that mean the twin filter kit is pointless too or are induction kits a different matter?
-
Er, cheers, but I said it does make sense. :D Good explaination tho. Got a standard exhaust at the mo. Will fit the decat pipe on Friday. I had a G60 before and fitted a magnex cat-back system with a supersprint de-cat. Also changed the air filter for the same k&n replacement panel that I've got ready to go on. Changed all at the same time and noticed the difference straight away. I'm not looking for big bhp gains at the moment as it's my daily driver and I do a fair few miles. And seeing as it's just cost me £80 to fill up at asda, which is the cheapest place around here, I don't want to burn fuel a hell of a lot quicker than I do now. A few tweaks won't hurt tho. :norty:

I think I've just spent too much on other bits to justify the twin filter kit unfortunately. Plus I have a new K&N replacement panel filter to fit. But I have just ordered a boost return delete kit from ebay to see what its like. The theory behind it makes sense so I'll see if it makes any difference. I've just taken delivery of a de-cat from G-werks too so I've got a couple of noise changes to look forward too. :norty:
-
Sorry. My bad. Just found something about it on here. :iamwithstupid:
-
Hi all. Going back to the boost return delete kit, I've been searching on the forum and tinternet in general but cant find much info about them or part numbers. I am interested in deleting the boost return to see what difference it would make. Does anybody still make a kit for this purpose? Also, I saw a post on my searches where somebody metioned a whooshing noise on gear changes. Is it as loud as the dump valves that people like to fit to their escorts, or is it a bit more subtle than that?
-
Excellent. Very useful info, thanks. Figured as I need it on my doorstep when I get home from work next week, its probably worth an extra £5-10. I agree with you (Grimmy) about it not really being worth just replacing the internals. The whole component looks rusted and crappy anyway. Got the pump on order from ECP, and will contact local auto factors for belt and gasket. Will be easier with a part number to start with. Thanks for your help and thank god for google. :notworthy:
-
Sorry if this is already somewhere on the forum, but I cant find it and need to put an order in for one before I go away for work tomorrow. I have a 1992 G60 which has been emitting some horrible noises from the engine bay recently. I think I have traced it to the water pump so am looking to order a new one. I can't see a part number on it when it's fitted and can't take it off until next week. Does anybody know the part numbers for the g60 water pump, gasket and belt? I am looking at a pump on Euro Car Parts website which is PN 201440115 Any help with this would be grand. Cheers.

I got it done at my local garage in the end. I've not been there before but was very pleasantly surprised by the way that they looked after me as well as my car. The £145 was for genuine vw belt and tensioner. When I collected the car afterwards, the bloke told me that it took longer than he thought because the supercharger was in the way, but he stuck to the quote he had given me. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to plug businesses on the forum, but I will name if I'm allowed (?). I will definately be going back there. And they were amazed that I had been quoted so much by the other garage. So, next question. Whats a reasonable quote for an alternator replacement? :?
-
Cool. They do say that they use only "top quality parts". I'll find out if that means VAG or some equivalent. Quite chuffed its not going to cost me as much as I thought. That means I will be able to afford food this month. The fiance will be pleased. :luvlove:
-
They did say it was for the tensioner aswell, which is why it seems too good. I was expecting to be at least £250 lighter after this. Maybe I should stop being a big wimp and book it in. :camp:

Hi. Sorry if this topic is covered elsewhere but I couldn't find it through the search bar. I'm looking at getting my G60 cambelt reaplaced. So far I've been quoted £375+vat by a reputable but clearly expensive garage, and £145 all inclusive from a garage that I've never heard of but are local and associated with the GoodGarageScheme. Money is tight at the moment as I had the charger rebuilt last week, so the cheaper option is very appealing. Is it a case of "a cambelt is a cambelt" so if they change various belts all the time then they can't really nauze it up, or does £145 including vat, parts and labour sound like cause to be a bit weary? I definately think £375+vat is a bit optimistic on their part. Any opinions or advise would be appreciated. Cheers, Matt.

If you have some liquid nitrogen laying around then why not! And if you oven bake the casing at gas mark 5 for an hour, with a bit of basil and coriander, it comes out lovely.
-
I would have thought replacing the bearings and seals would be the easy bit. The other thing G-werks do is acid dip the casings and refinish everything. Also, they can do it in a day where as it might take a couple for us mere mortals. Especially if you round off a bolt or find something seized.
