  1. It did look pretty damn horrid !! Thanks - I'll get it sorted - is it worth doing other mounts at the same time - (money/wife permitting) ??
  2. VR now approaching 84k miles - is there anything I should be thinking about to ensure the engine continues to run sweetly? Cheers
  3. Hi all - OK - was under the bonnet today and noticed that the right-hand engine mount - (when looking into the engine bay from the front) - appears to be leaking !! I am a bit thick when it comes to technical stuff, but mounts are dry right - so where is this coming from?? The rest of the bay is completely dry. A burning rubber smell developed on the way home yesterday, could these be linked?? Thanks everyone.
  4. I think I heard the Golf Mk3 rack is the same??
  5. I had my suspension changed by the local exhaust centre some time back - (yes I know - foolish) - however, the suspension they fitted was fine and the handling problems I had were related to bushes, rack etc. I then had this "standard suspension" changed to a Weitec lowered set-up and have the same problems with speedhumps. Anyway - the upshot, the "standardish" suspension was on the car for about a month. I have it in a box in the shed if anyone is interested?? Also, now thinking about Koni TAs with H&Rs - perhaps we could come to an arrangement???
  6. My balls are just fine thanks Kev :D I had them replaced by stealth - (and I don't mean when I wasn't looking!!)
  7. So here's a question - I have the AMD remap and a K&N panel filter (95 VR6). AMD printout showed 213bhp - (hmm) !! Seemed smoother after this, but I did not have a hugely noticeable difference in performance. The filter - (which was done later) did though with much better throttle response. So - if I now add a larger throttle body - will the benefits of the remap have a bigger effect???
  8. Merry Christmas everyone. OK - enjoying the clear roads this morning on the way to work and caned the VR in second round on a right bend on one of those big oblong roundabouts. As I got to the next corner on the roundabout, (still going round to the right) the steering was scarily light and felt like it was on grease - (but wasn't) - then as I exited the roundabout turning left, steering felt much heavier on the other lock. I think this sounds classic rack problems - (yes I still haven't done that yet) - but I just wondered if there is anything else that could contribute to this. Santa - bring me a rack !!!

    3 Bar Grille - VR6

Hmmm - I need a new grille anyway so will probably get a non-closed one. I'm thinking a black one might look nicer than body colour anyway ??? Thoughts on this?? Anyway - thing is - the car never seems to get too hot anyway - max I've seen on the oil temp is 108 - and that was after a caning on a hot day.
  10. Just noticed my coolant level is a bit low. I've heard all sorts of strange things about topping up in the past - so - can I just top it up into the expansion tank - (obviously taking care not to steam my face off) ?? Or - is there a special process for doing this?? Thanks
  11. Maybe a silly question, my 95 VR has a body coloured 3 bar grille, but it has no gaps between the bars - so it would appear there's no way for air to get through. Is this right?? Please feel free to laugh at me if this is a dumb question
  12. I'm sure it's been said many times before, but I have just fitted one of H100VWs (Gavin's) headlight looms. I cannot stress enough what a fantastic difference this mod makes - I can now see where I'm going down my favourite lanes. If you've not done this mod yet - I thoroughly recommend you do!! Thanks Gavin !
  13. I think that's what I want to get away from. The Weitec system doesn't "soak" bumps so well - I presume because it's so firm - which makes it bouncy - even over bumps through roundabouts etc. My old standard suspension used to deal with these quite effectively. If the bounciness of the FKs is similar to that of the Weitec - I think I'll stick to the Koni TA route.
  14. Thanks Anubis - that's useful info. So do you think the coilovers give better handling and comfort? I'd definitely like a slightly higher ride - (he said after grating over a speed-hump yet again !!) The Weitec system to me feels as though it gives it's best when really going for it - but maybe feels slightly unmatched between dampers and springs. Did you find that? How much were yoour coilovers - I think I saw £500ish on here?? Everyone - FKs better than Koni TAs and H&Rs ?? Thanks
  15. Grand old 38 !!! first car Mini 850 rusty, then Mk2 Cortina (aerodynamic dent added), 1500 Avenger - crap and 12 mpg !! Opel Manta A - very cool, Vauxhall VX4/90 5spd - cool and big, Audi 80 GLE - shite, Golf GTi MK1 - fabulous, GTi MK2 - clocked but shiny, TR7 convertible - girls just jumped in (well one did), Another Golf GTi Mk2 - cracking car, VR6 Golf - superb, Current Corrado VR6 fantastic !!! Oh - and we have a rotting Spitfire just to clutter up the neighbourhood!!
  16. Due to daily drive and local speed humps I'm thinking of changing my Weitec suspension for Koni Top Adjustables with H&R springs. Most of my driving is motorway these days so I'm hoping to get something with abit more confort and hump clearance - but still great for a bit of b-roading. So - will the Konis/springs give me this over the Weitec?? Has anyone experienced both and can give me an opinion?? Also, if I go down this route - if anyone is interested in the Weitec set-up, it will be for sale soon. Thanks in advance.
  17. Well I've spent loads on mine and was potentially going to look at buying a Porsche 944 Turbo at the weekend. BUT - decided I love the VR too much - as EVO mag puts it the VR6 is "still to be bettered for all round ability and appeal" 8) Now, if I can just sort this vagueness out !!!!!
  18. Cheers - that's helpful. I might be getting Koni TAs and H&Rs at the same time - they seem to be the preferred option. Maybe I'll get the UJs looked at at the same time !! Good luck with yours . .
  19. Is it still vague on the straight-ahead?? Mine feels like it's getting blown about by side-winds even though it's not windy!! Pulls both left and right too :( Seeing as I've had almost everything else done, maybe this will solve it !! What problems do you still have then ???
  20. Hey - just got a small bonus at work - hurrah :D - time to get that new rack then methinks. Spoke to Vince at Stealth who said the Mk2/Mk3 Golf racks look the same and are cheaper. He also said someone on the forum called Matt had one fitted ??? - (DrMat maybe ???). Anyway - just wondered if this has solved things at all??
  21. I (and quite a few others) have had problems with the steering feel which is helped by moving the wheel to a different setting. Mine is now on the bottom point - (which for a short-arse like me isn't too bad) :? It felt really weird at first, but you soon get used to a new position and as the steering feels so much better - it's worthwhile persevering I reckon. Good luck with it . . .
  22. Well - I must admit the figures do sound a bit "stretchy" - but that's what the plot shows. I have heard that figures can be fiddled to produce an optimum amount for a short space of time to make the gains appear more impressive. Rather like jumping onto some scales, when you land, the weight shown would be much heavier than you actually are! Bloody hell - just grabbed some scales and tried it - I am clearly eating far too many curries !! :(
  23. Back to Kev's question about the "standardness" of my VR6. As far as I know it was standard before I did anything to it. Prior to the AMD remap it was measured at 198bhp on their rolling road. After the remap, it peaked at 213bhp with 206lb/ft of the twisty stuff - (before was 191lb/ft). I must admit though, it didn't feel like a huge performance gain - just smoother really - perhaps I was expecting too much?? I actually noticed a bigger difference when I added a K&N panel filter - throttle response at motorway speeds was much cleaner. Oh - and of course I run it on Optimax . .
  24. I think I'm gonna have to mate - at least I'll shut-up about it then !! Potential bonus on the way at work so fingers tightly crossed!! :?
