Why thank you Kev!! Might not handle - but I have power! I shall sleep soundly this night!

Hi all Just been looking at Pablo VR6's dyno plots in an earlier post. I dug out my plot after my AMD remap and I appear to be losing a lot of power between the flywheel and the wheels. The plot reads 213bhp at the fly - but 171 at the wheels - I'm losing 40ish here which is about 24%. Pablo's is only 12.5%. Have I got a problem here or could it be related to gear used, ambient temp etc??
-
Hmmm - think it was laser - there were things - (technical term) - fitted to each wheel and the measures were shown on a computer. Before - left front camber 0.23 After 1.31 Before right 1.42 After 1.26 Haven't checked calipers - can have a look at that. Earlier I mentioned the knock I hear when coming off of full lock - any ideas whether that is part of it??
-
I'm sticking with it Kev - and saving at the same time !! Do you think changing the power steering fluid may help?? Could dogy engine mounts make it pull left under power?? Cheers

Further to John's suggestion, just had the alignment reset which had somehow knocked itself out!! The car feels much better but still not sure it's completely right. I may change the power steering fluid - I understand that may help!! Anyway - now drives nice and straight, but putting any power down pulls it to the kerb!! The saga continues - but at least it's much nicer to drive now !! Thanks for all the suggestions!
-
Thanks John - I certainly will think carefully before weighing into a rack. The alignment's been done a number of times because of the bits that have been changed - (over a period of time) - I think it's worth getting it checked again though before going down the rack route! At my last service, I asked them to check over the suspension steering handling in general - so fairly confident it's all as it should be?? I'll redo alignment and go from there - updates to follow.

Be really interested to hear how it all goes - don't really enjoy driving mine at the moment - and it's frustrating coz I can feel how good it can be underneath the dodgy steering. Perhaps I should cancel my forthcoming wedding - could do the rack and get a shrick! Hmmmm Good luck with your rack anyway!

Did this mod a couple of weeks back - can now see where I'm going. Very quick to do and about 18quid an arm from the stealer or there abouts . .

Racks, women, fluid leaks !!!! I'll check for leaks - and then start saving. How much is a new rack then - is a recon worthwhile? And how long might the current rack have before it has to be done - or does it just get slowly worse - (MOT coming up) !!

Sorry to bore you all with continuing handling problems! Noticed on the way home that the steering felt alightly heavier whilst turning left and in general on the motorway the car weaves slightly like it's windy - even if it isn't. Anyway, near home, I was manouvering in a car park and when winding the steering back off full right lock, there was a knock from the front of the car. I reversed back on full left lock and there was another knock. Strangely, the steering now feels heavier on right lock!!??!! This all sounds a bit racky to me!! Bushes have been done, new Weitec suspension, top mounts, trackrod ends, new front tyres, new ball joints, alignment several times - still the car feels unstable and nasty to drive. Please help!!!!
-
Sorry to hear about your wishbones !! Hope you get it sorted !! Sorry to hijack the thread - is there anyone with a VR6 Watford way?? I'd be interested for another opinion on how mine drives??
-
Hi all - I've changed virtually everything on my VR too (not the rack) - and the steering still feels vague. Even cruising on the M25, inside lane at about 60, it weaves around. It seems like even small road imperfections can knock it off line and ths suspension (Weitec) seems to have limited travel - quite harsh I would say. It almost feels like the steering is loosely connected to the car - could this be anything else - mounts etc. I'd be really interested to hear if new racks solve this - I am starting to get very frustrated with my handling (oo-err)!
-
I had the same problem with my 95M VR6 - turned out to be the Idle stabilisation valve - ISV. Not cheap - about £250 I think - but this was done by VW under warranty from the (TVR) dealer I bought it from. Anyway - same symptoms, but if I gave it some gas when it was turning over - it would start - and could even be driven, but would stall as soon as I approached roundabouts, lights etc - real pain in the a**e. But - as it could be driven, I didn't get stranded. Hope this helps - good luck!

I already have an AMD remap and K&N panel filter. Will I notice much of a difference with a bigger throttle body??
-
Just noticed the other day, when cruising in fourth, I can feel a "whirring" vibration through the gearstick/transmission tunnel - (vanishes when I change to 5th). Doesn't seem to match engine speed which confuses me - seems to sort of pulse every second! Any thoughts??
-
Hi all - long time no posts !! Last time I was on, I was having new ball joints and a general suspension check-over done. Well - things seem better, but still not fully resolved in my opinion (maybe I'm just too damn fussy). I'm gonna live with it for the time being but may consider changing my Weitec set-up for Koni TAs at some point. Quick - (perhaps silly) question - can I uprate just the rear anti-roll bar to help control roll?? I've read it is the rear that does most of the work anyway?? Cheers all

Hi - just back from holiday - hence lack of response. Haven't got the car back yet as I've been away and they are doing some other bits and pieces. Hoping all will be fantastic ! Will provide an update when I have it back. LVP - sorry - forgot to let you know when I dropped it off - I have a small and virtually empty head !!

Seen a dark green (I think) Corrado a few times on the lanes near Croxley Green - we've flashed and waved a couple of times. I'm in the dark blue VR. Anyone here ?? By the way the brick wall on your right just as you come off the green reflects engine/exhaust note fantastically - I always have the stereo off and the windows down at that point !!
-
Hi LvP - OK - spoke to Michael at RAengineering today and have basically followed up with an e-mail explaining all my symptoms - (well the cars symptoms !!). I described the steering as vague, how it feels different at various steering wheel positions - and how it feels a bit too lively and affected by road conditions for my liking. I've asked for a quote for ball-joints - and to generally look over the steering. Did you ask for anything further - or describe things differently?? Not sure when I'm booked in yet - I'll let you know. Cheers . .
-
OK - will do. I'll give them a call next week and see when I can get booked in. I've got quite a list ! Thanks for the details.
-
Sounds like things are good !! I'm not hideously far from Reading - so might get my servicing done there. If I mention you, do you think they will remember what they did - and do the same to my VR ?? I plan to get ball joints done anyway - they seem cheap(ish) !!
-
Morning all - just wondered if there have been any developments or further thoughts and suggestions on this problem?? DTM - are things still OK after your visit to RAengineering??
-
Must admit I was a bit surprised to get that output - but the "before" was 198bhp (???) - so that's about a 7.5% increase. I'm guessing that despite what the before and after figures are, you can still gauge a percentage increase? What is standard at the wheels then - and will the throttle body give me anything extra??
-
Has this question been asked already - would I get any benefit from adding a modified throttle body with no other mods?? I've already had an AMD remap and K&N panel filter. AMDs rolling road recorded 213BHP and 206 lb ft torque!!
-
I'm all geared up to get ball-joints changed at some point. Considering the costs involved it sounds worthwhile - considering I've done virtually everything else !! Today, after accelerating hard in third round a gentle long left bend, I had to slow and get in a filter lane to turn right at some lights. The wheel was pulling hard to the right as I slowed and when I stopped, the wheel sort of steered itself off centre and a quarter turn to the right. I don't think there was any road imperfection or camber - but will check next time I'm there. Is my car haunted - or is this another alignment, ball-joint, steering column thing??
