Any other thoughts - I really don't want to do any more damage if there is something wrong . .
-
Not sure - how can I check? Must admit, it sounds more "enginey" to me - plus it stopped briefly after the oil top-up.
-
OK - VR's going to Stealth on Thursday and I took it there last week so they could check the steering rack out in advance. Vince spotted a weeping sump - a result of grounding no doubt - but said it would be OK - just keep track of the oil. I drove back fine no problem - but when I started it today, there seems to be a whirring/light grinding noise from the engine. I checked the oil (which was low), so topped it up and restarted. Momentarily, no noise, then it started again. Not sure if this is linked, but after a slight blip on the throttle, when the engine falls back to idle, I get a slight vibration through the gearlever. Please - I need some guidance on this - I am already praying this is not expensive!

OK - light comes on at start-up and stays on. It's only just happened recently. I noticeed the switch had come away from the dash so fiddled to get it back, the light came on soon after that. Hmmmm

OK - the ABS light has come on this morning and stayed on. Don't have my handbook handy to check what this means. Brakes feel fine - but can anyone tell me if I need to dash to the nearest garage?? Thanks

Saw a Red VR6 JUI . . . at Croxley Classics on the Green - anyone here??

Seems to be a day for me asking techy stats questions ! I understand the rev limit of early VRs was 6900 revs - and for later cars, 6400. Is there any benefit in adapting the later cars to rev to the higher figure - (without damage) - and how would you go about it? Thanks
-
I did consider getting someone to do it for me - (being a techno muppet) - but glad I didn't as it was quite easy and straightforward. Main problem (apart from reaching some bolts) was getting a jack under the car. No wonder I have such problems with speed-humps!

Anyone know offhand what the gear ratios are for the VR6? I have this at home in an Autocar road test - but don't have this handy. Cheers

Changed mine recently - easy to do and about 40 minutes. Useful to have a knuckle joint on your socket set. Take a look at this link - should help . . http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... er=#258493

Hi all Have noticed a number of you with non-standard suspension have ARBs, but don't necessarily have them on both front and rear. What is the general consensus on this? Thanks
-
Hi all Seem to recall there was a supercharged VR6 for sale on here 3 or 4 months back - think it was Dragon Green - just wondered what the spec was and whether it ever sold?

Not many people want to raise their Cs right? I have a Weitec suspension kit which is very low - as the local speedhumps (b***ards) will testify to. Is there a way of increasing ride height without replacing the kit? Spacers etc??

Slight judder through steering when cornering. Any ideas?

I used to get a judder/vibration occasionally on left hand bends when giving it some gas. Have just replaced the gearbox side engine mount which was totally knackered - not sure if this was the cause though !?? -
Sold my Spitfire - have a bit of spare cash so thinking of getting a Schrick. Have read most of the thread on this, but, what is the cost of a schrick fitted? What does it do to insurance?
-
OK - searched and found it is potentially best to get these from Volksbits - but are they any good - has anyone got them already and are they easy to fit?? Apologies - at work and difficult to do a more in depth searh!!

Seen some strut bars on ebay for 50quid - are they any good?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 99676&rd=1

Autocar quotes 0-60 for the VR6 in 6.4secs - but the figures that means most is the 30-70 through the gears - for the VR - that's 5.7secs. To put that in perspective, Autocar quotes the following other 30-70s: Renault Sport Clio 182 - 5.8secs. Golf R32 - 6.3secs. Astra 2.0 Turbo Coupe - (old shape) 6.3secs. Porsche Boxster S - 5.5 secs. The VR is well up there!!!

I have a weitec GT kit on my 95 VR with Mk4 bumpstops. It is a bit too low for the local humps but I can live with that. It is quite hard though and I agree crashy - think it depends what you want and what your expectations are. ChrisP has driven my car too - I think his car has Konis so may be a good person to compare the two??? In general I am happy - but I have heard such great things about Koni TAs and H&Rs. Grass is always greener !

Hi - I changed my suspension when I first got my VR. I think they were from GSF and were fitted by my local exhaust centre. I then decided I wanted it lower so got a Weitec system. The upshot is, I have standard suspension in my shed that was on the car for about 1-2 months - if you're interested. I can check out make etc if you like and we can make a deal if it helps you out. Cheers
-
Easy when you know how !!! Thanks for that
-
OK - got a mount from GSF and had another look at the offender. Looks to me like there is a horizontal metal joint bolted to the gearbox/engine, held on by three horizontal bolts. The other end of this joint has a bolt vertically through the mount. So, do I remove the vertical bolt, then the three horizontal ones to remove the metal joint - and so have access to remove the mount itself?? Is there anything to be aware of if I do tackle it this way?? Or am I talking c**p ??
-
So is this easy to change? I did one on an old Audi 80 years ago and it was pretty much loosen the bolts and jack the joint open to remove the mount - replace, release jack and bolt up. Am I on the right lines?
-
Hi all - thanks for all the helpful chat - yep was joking about the oil :D It does seem to be running fine - I suppose I was really thinking about engine chains. I've had a number of VWs and always used to change the cambelt pretty much as soon as I bought them - (heard many horror stories) - but there's no cambelt on the VR right !! Excuse my ignorance!
-
Already done that once back in 98 :?
