  1. Just read an atricle in the local paper about four guys who hired Lambo Murcielargo convertibles and a Bentley Continental GT at £5000 each for a wedding! One of the Lambo drivers had a few too many ciders, subsequently wrapping it round a tree before fleeing the scene! This happened within a mile of my house! If I'd have known I'd have been up there and had the wheels away for my 16v  Bet the hire company love this guy!
  2. I had the same clutch problem on my 16v. What these guys are telling you is spot on mate!
  3. Much to my annoyance, I cannot disclose the name of the Garage as my solicitor will shortly be taking action for obtaining monies by deception. (has taken the money but not done the work) charge may be reduced, what a suprise! The victim gets a royal shafting once again!! I have also been advised to have my car inspected by a specialist. Have since found out this guy isn't even a qualified mechanic :censored: Car is now at a very reputable Bridgnorth Skoda dealership, who are most competent in vehicle repair and they run their own very successful rally team, building their own engines. Weird but Im not worried about a recurrence. S'pose its right what you say, the reputation of the garage really does give you peace of mind! Just so angry I have had to learn the hard way. PLEASE CORRADO OWNERS, DONT ENTRUST YOUR PRIDE AND JOY TO ANYONE WITHOUT A GREAT REPUTATION FOR QUALITY OF SERVICE..
  4. Today I managed to glide my car into a garage after the cambelt that was fitted less than one month ago broke causing untold damage to my engine. GGGrrrrrrrrrrr! :bad-words: Other annoying thing is, I had also paid the garage to; Fit an O/S outer driveshaft gaiter...... not done. Fit new rear number plate (Supplied)....... not done Fit new wiper blades....... not done Fit new brake pads / discs, was done but have had to re-bleed system and the discs are not secured to the hub any more Sort cold start idle irregularity...... not done. Engine oil is about 1/8" over the full mark on the dipstick Sticking clutch pedal was also reported and allegedly fixed...... did it myself last week What really annoys me is I supplied 90% of the parts (genuine VAG) and paid this pratt £885 for the work (allegedly he fitted a new clutch too?) so it cost me in total £1245 and the car is now lying useless in a 'proper' garage. Good job one of my best friends is a solicitor. Only reason I didnt do the work myself is that I am curently working over 75 hours per week and just dont have the time. Isn't hinsight a wonderful thing. Dont think he'll be trading as a garage much longer when the law has finished with him. :censored:
  5. They're the early ones mate and very expensive new from a Volkswagen dealership.
  6. I used to work for a guy who owned a Ferrari F40. I had a very short drive in that for about 5 mins and it scared the hell out of me. Would imagine the Lambo is even quicker? Fair play to you mate. The LP640 is this one isn't it? Cant keep up with supercars these days. There's some gorgeous stuff about now. I drove an LP640 today too but that was on an XBOX
  7. Since picking up my Corrado 2 months ago, I have been troubled by a sticking clutch pedal. The problem was intermittent but the pedal would stick down at the most inconvenient moments. I had a complete new clutch fitted, the garage who did it told me they had bled the system and it was perfect now. Whatever! driving it off their forecourt, the pedal stuck down again. They had ket the car for ten days, charged me a fortune and I desperately needed the car for work. So I drove it home and decided to fix it myself. The slave cylinder looked brand new, the hydraulic hose showed no signs of seepage etc and with the new clutch, I didn't know what else it could be. The slave cylinder, despite looking new, was a very cheap and nasty spurious part so I took it out to have a look at it. Everything seemed intact but I though i'd order a new one anyway. Pushing the plunger on the new cylinder gave quite a reistance, much more than the old on anyway. What can I say, job done, problem solved. After a thorough bleeding, the clutch is massively improved. £32 and an hours work. Garage charged me over £800 and had the car for ten days. S'pose it all goes back to the old saying, 'if you want something doing right, do it yourself!' Thought sharing this info with other Corrado / Golf owners, might save them the heartache I had to put up with.
  8. Finally..... fixed my sticking clutch pedal! New clutch slave cylinder has transformed the feel of the clutch now. Must have broken down with being standing for 2-3 years?
  9. Had a go at ridding the Rrado of the hesitation when its cold, think I've sussed it, just waiting for some parts to arrive. Think a new slave cylinder will stop the clutch pedal sticking down too so have on on order as well! Got the spare tyre fixed so I now have a spare too! Just a waiting game noe then it'll be a bitz blitz when they arrive!
  10. Rust in rear arches and door bottoms is the usual place. Dodgy electrics is another thing to look out for. Check all the lights and try the indicators with your foot on the brake, if all the lights flash, its usually just a bad earth on the multiplugs and easily remedied. Aside from these, nothing springs to mind, I worked for a vauxhall dealer for several years and remember the Vectra being quite a hardy vehicle. Dont forget the usual.... play in steering, uneven tyre wear, leaking windows etc but at £300 you could break it and still make money on it! Central locking can be troublesome too!
  11. Got to replace clutch master cylinder, locate 'hesitation' when accelerating from cold start, awaiting respray, need to restore headlining, oh God Im going to stop this is depressing! :( lol
  12. I have recently opted for OEM BBS wheels, as fitted as an option on the 16v. Must admit they look fantastic whilst still retaining the 15" tyres. I have a set of four Sebrings with tyres if you fancy those?
  13. What will I be looking for mate? :confused4: Just unplugged it, runs the same. As soon as its been running 1-2 mins its fine again Does this prove the valve is knackered?
  14. I have a 1990 1.8 16v Corrado which hesitates under acceleration when the engine is cold. The problem clears as soon as the engine is up to temperature. I have recently fitted new (genuine VAG) plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, fuel / air filters, oil / filter change, new timing belt inc tensioner / water pump etc but it is no better. I have been told it could be the cold start valve? I have checked for power to the valve and it is present. The car has been stood for 2 years which I suppose could mean some rubbish has been sucked up when it was first started? With power to the cold start valve, I assume it could be a fault with the valve itself? Are new ones expensive? The idle stability valve buzzes as it should so I assume the fault is not with that? The vac advance pipes are all present and correct etc. The garage who did the cambelt ran a compression test which came out perfectly equal across all four pots. The car is reliable and I know I could drive it anywhere, its just annoying when it plays up from cold. Many thanks in advance! Ian :confused4:
  15. If the touchup paint is still quite fresh, a wipe with a rag dipped in cellulose thinners will make short work of getting rid of it. Polish the panel as soon as you can after tho or the thinners will dry leaving smears.
  16. Its addictive tho! Found myself making mine 'exactly' like mine visually. Do I have OCD? I don't really care if I do!
  17. Can't wait for him to paint my Rrado, will show up how drab everything else is then tho, the seats etc! I feel a retrim in leather coming on!
  18. Cool! :shades: Only thing is the BBS wheels aren't quite the same!
  19. Am I the only one who has created a clone of my Corrado on Forza Motorsport 2 on Xbox 360? Must admit, I drive it more than anything else in my garage and always return to the VW race to blow the doors of the other dubbers!
  20. I can do that for £50 and a dozen rattle cans! What I meant was, he doesn't just flat the paintwork and blow it over to make it look good. If there is rust or imperfection, he sorts it properly. :)
  21. Not too sure mate, give him a bell. He's a really approachable guy. The number is 01746 762592. Good luck! :) Bear in mind that to Alex a full respray means a bare metal respray to concours!
  22. Hi guys and gals, my friend Alex has finally got his website up and running for his new bodyshop. Believe me, I worked for Classic Motor Cars Ltd a few years ago (Jaguar restoration specialists) and this guys bodywork is easily up to their standard, and I never thought I would say that about anyone so this is high praise indeed. Alex restores the bodywork on anything from Alfa to Zil and as you can see from his online gallery, anything from a Corsa to a Ferrari to a classic Jag XK120. His website is www.bodybeautifulcarsltd.com with contact section on the site for a no obligation quote. Its not often I recommend someone (Im a bit of a fussy beggar when it comes to cars) and I can hand on heart say that you would have no worries in entrusting your pride and joy to these blokes. That website again: www.bodybeautifulcarsltd.com and his name is Alex
  23. The check list text says that headlight for the earlier Corrado are £60+VAT, do you have any idea where from? The VW dealer I tried wanted £180 per light +VAT.
  24. What did I do to my Corrado today? Spent hours polishing the wheels which then made the bodywork look grubby so I polished that as well! I'm going to end up with no paint left if I keep polishing it! What do you think?
  25. Sorry Eskimo, I had no idea! Have spent the afternoon swapping my headlights for brand new original equipment ones, was never sure the angel eyes looked right. Am selling them now, listed in parts for sale.
