  1. What happens if the pc crashes? Assume they were sensible and didnt use windows as a base
  2. Great idea! Gonna add myself, always happy to assist anyone local to me.
  3. Are the fogs/indicators just as simple as the headlights to split?
  4. Tried searching but couldn't find anything relevant. My headlights, fogs and indicators are starting to look their age. Does anyone have any good tips for bringing their shine back?
  5. Just saying that the gauge might not be telling the truth. Mine didnt after changing the sender Are you sure you got it hot enough to get the fans running?
  6. I had a very similar problem after changing the temp sensors. I plugged it into vagcom to read the temp that the ECU was picking up and it never went about 95c, despite the guage reading 120c at times!. I`ve tried all sorts to fix it but have resorted to putting the old yellow temp sender back in. The ECU values are still right but the gauge reads 10c below what it should at all times. I have also tried a new gauge but that didnt fix it, I think its quite common for the temp gauge to be a little out
  7. Just a quick update Ordered 536 955 325 today, its still available at £13.21 inc vat
  8. LOL - just phoned a local garage to arrange for the clutch to be bled and the lady on reception asked me after providing my car reg - "Is that a manual or an automatic?"
  9. My car (VR6) is slowly losing 3rd gear. It started a couple of months ago and is slowly getting worse. It started by not properly enganging 3rd but it would only do this every now and then. Two weeks ago it became worse and since will only go into 3rd if you pushed sideways towards 5th when seleting the gear. Now this technique is also starting to fail. Over the same period of time i have also noticed that the clutch pedal is not springing fully back up when releasing it, although it gets better as the car warms up. Does this sound like the clutch needs bleeding or a problem with one of the cylinders? All other gears engage perfectly fine so is it possible it could be a worn syncro on 3rd?
  10. Update : Tried pulling up the needle but no click. Tried another guage and it reads zero constantly. Changed the temp sensor this weekend for a different one and now it reads 70c during driving and 85c when the fans come on so clearly not right still. I`m gonna try the other guage again with the new temp sender in to see if that gives any joy. I have also checked the wiring and from what i can see it all appears in tact. I`m sure i read somewhere on here someone had similar issues and resolved them by changing the header tank, something to do with the level sensor?! True or bunkum? Any other ideas?
  11. Just spotted a dark one on Surrey Road, Poole. Didnt see the reg or type because i was too busy keeping an eye on the moped which had been sat up my ass for some time. Gave a wave though. Are you on here?
  12. Afer months of putting this off i finally pulled out the central locking loom which goes from the back of the fuse box into the drivers door, it was not a pretty sight. I have replaced it with a new loom and connected everything back up and put a new fuse in. The windows now work on both sides, the fuse doesnt pop when unlocking/locking the door but the central locking doesnt work at all, either from the drivers or passenger door. I have definitely reconnected the pump and cant hear it even tryin to run. Is there another connector behind the fusebox which completes the CL circuit which i may have nudged loose?
  13. Well, i managed to pick up a new set of clocks which have fixed an old issue i had where the mileage wouldnt show. Now though the temp gauge reads nothing at all, wont budge an inch. I`ve got another temp sensor on its way but i`m still confused as to why i had an over inflated reading before a clock change and now nothing (fuel guage works fine)
  14. Thing is I have already replaced the sender for a new one last weekend.
  15. I`ll give that a try. Vagcat says the golf senders are the same so i`ll try and get some from the scrappy. Are there any fuses/relays on the main fuse board which could impact this. I`ve been looking at wiring diagrams and this seems a possibility?
  16. Anyone in the bournemouth/poole area with a set of vr clocks i could borrow?
  17. Drove to southampton and back today with vagcom plugged in and the laptop says coolant is at a constant 84c @ ~75mph but the gauge was reading close to 110c I dont know what to do?
  18. Yup. I`ve replaced both the yellow (temp gauge) and the blue (ecu). Do you know which one vagcom reads from?
  19. The light only flashes when it gets over 110c (vagcom reading ~90c) and i changed the temp sensor for a brand new one on friday, old one was also reading too high. I`m baffled, i checked the wiring too today and there are no obvious nicks in it that i can see, the rest is still firmly covered by the wire wraps.
  20. Any ideas? I`ve tried cleaning the gounds on the battery terminal and under the isv. Havent testing to see if this has done anything but any other suggestions would be good
  21. I Have just run the car up to temp with vagcom plugged in and from its perspective everything is normal. Water temp sits between 92-96 on my drive, with the fans coming on a switching off at the appropriate times. The thermostat opend just above 80c and water is being pumped to the radiator and back to the expansion tank. However the gauge in the car is reading 110c+ and the coolant light is flashing. As in my previous post i have replaced the the temp sender today (yellow one, now black/blue). What is going on with my car?
  22. Well I have replaced the thermostat and took it for a run and everything seemed fine, for about 5 mins. The temp gauge in the car started shooting too 110c within 2-3 miles of starting the car, so i replaced the yellow temp sender today and although its not going to 110c its still making its way to 105c with no signs of the fans coming on or the thermostat even opening. I`m about to run vagcom and see what the ecu thinks the water temp is. Any other suggestions?
  23. I`m positive its the thermostat gone. Just ran the car up to temp with the expansion cap off and the bottom hose remained cool. Water is definitely making its way back to the expansion tank so the pump is running right, also explains why the fans arent coming on. GSF said they will replace it but want to see the old one as well, just the hassle of actually swapping them again now!!!
  24. I dont think so, expansion tank seems to stay between the max/min mark. Might be a starting point to burp the system this weekend, but i wouldnt expect continuous heat from the heater blower if it was low on coolant.
