  1. Hi All, I replaced the thermostat on my VR6 two weeks ago as the one currently in was stuck open and therefore the car was not warming up properly and churning through petrol. The car has run great since then, normal water/oil temps, fans coming on, temp never going above 90c even in traffic, life was peachy. That was until yesterday. Started the car and was on my way to work and the temp guage didnt stop where it usually does at around 85-90c, it just keeps going up. I pulled over before and switched off before it got to 110c, no sign of the fans coming on. Had a feel of the rad hoses and the top is roasting, but the bottom although warm was nowhere near the temp of the top hose. Which makes me think that my new thermostat has now broken and jammed closed keeping coolant in the block, does this seem logical? The heater will pump out hot air continuously so i dont think i have a air block and this suggests the water pump is doing its thing. I assume that the fans are not coming on due to the location of the thermoswitch (bottom of rad next to bottom rad hose inlet) which is not getting the hot water to trigger the switch? I`m gonna test that the fans work this weekend, by shorting the thermoswitch. It seems odd that a thermostat should do this after two weeks of use, is it just because I bought a gsf one? Are the dealer ones more reliable? What are the chances of getting a replacement one (and some more G12) out of GSF if it is a dodgy part? Thanks
  2. I bought an ebay special last week (£65), seems to work ok, 12 months guaranteee too.
  3. If you havent done so yet I would check your coilpack. I had a similar problem in the run up to winter, tried all sorts to get it fixed. Had to change the thermostat last weekend and when taking off the coilpack noticed a few sizeable cracks and a massive portion of rust. I stuck a new coilpack on this morning (ebay job) and she runs like a dream again. It is worth checking as it so easy to take off.
  4. Are the VR lambda's the same as other VAG cars? Trying to find the best price on a new one.
  5. This should be a quick one, i did search but honestly couldnt find the answer. Where is the lambda probe located ono the VR6? Is it in the manifold (accesible from the engine bay) or is it further along the exhaust (jack up job)? Ta
  6. Cool - one thing that is right with the c. Gotta love em
  7. Should the ECU relay on a VR6 get a bit warm during use? Got the typical bad running VR6 and replaced the relay at the weekend and noticed it was getting quite warm, is this normal?
  8. Thought I`d add myself. Based in Bournemouth/Poole. Have only got the shareware version though.
  9. Nah i dont, will the ECU still be clocking the miles, or is that stored on the clocks themselves?
  10. Well its been a few weeks and a couple of ECU resets and still no sign of the odometer springin back into life Does anyone know what could cause this? The display lights up but just shows ------
  11. Hi all, I replaced the ISV on my VR6 last weekend and reset the ECU after I replaced, believe this was the right thing to do (drives better now anyway) Anyhoo after the reset my odometer only shows --------. The trip computer works fine as does everything else on the cluster. Is there something I need to do after an ECU reset to get it back, or is it buggered!! Paul
  12. Looks like an auto-leccy is on the cards. The wires going into the door are melted somewhat, nice!
  13. Update: Put another fuse in but this time didnt replace the plastic tray which hides the box as i heard this can trap a wire. And all was well, started the car, turned it off, started it, turned it off, removed key, got back in etc etc. Drove to work, still with the tray out, parked up, went to work. When i came out to the car at the end of the day, boom no power windows, fuse has blown again! Does this sound like dicky wiring in and around the fuse box which is occasionally shorting out? Thanks P
  14. Hiya All, Quick question. My Window/CL fuse keeps on blowing, it seemed to be when I unlocked the car so at the weekend i unplugged the cl pump to see if that was the cause. Placed a new fuse in and all seemed ok with the windows (although passenger one doesnt work, WCM??). Locked and unlocked the door fine, and the window still worked as it should :D . Went to the car this morning, fired it up, drove to friends house were i went to open the window and nothing happened, fuse gone :mad2: :mad2: !! Does this sound like the WCM is having a mood, or could it be trapped/crap wiring somewhere? If it is the WCM this would save me having to trace all the wiring. Also while I had the cl pump out I tested the system for leaks by blowing/sucking the pnuematic system. Everything seems to lock fine, but when blowing to unlock it seems to take ages and a lot of puff to get the passenger door up, is this normal? Guessing longer pipe to the passenger door, or I`m thinking it could be an air leak somewhere? (More interior out!!!) Thanks for the help P
  15. I had this on a mk3 too. Turns out it was a short in the wiper stalk which ended up melting the plastic and stopping the wipers working all together. I`d get a new stalk now so if it does give up the ghost you can replace it quickly, instead of what i did and leave it until it stopped working and then was only able to drive it when it wasnt raining
  16. I`ve got the same problem. I think its linked to the passenger door pin being stuck, caused by the lock mechanism jamming. I`m having a new lock mech fitted next week which i`m hoping should clear up all my window/locking problems. I`ll let you know if it sorts it out.
  17. You must be part genie or wizard!!! I`ve had the drivers door card off to try and see where to lever up (so i can relate to the passenger door which is stuck) and there seem to be no way of actually getting any where near it.
  18. Do you mean on the exterior door handle?
  19. Is it possible that it is the central locking causing issues as the door pin cant be pulled up? Possible vacuum leak?
  20. If it sheds any light on the problem, the interior lock pin cannot be pulled up either.
  21. Hi, I`m just about to buy myself a corrado. However the passenger door wont open at all, form inside or out. So when I pick it up i`m gonna have to get the door card off to take a goosey inside to see what is going on. Have a couple of question though: 1) is this a common problem for which there is a standard fixing process? 2) is it difficult to get the door card off whilst the door is closed? Thanks in advance Paul
