  1. Khurrado, be carefull! A mate of mine bought a 944 Turbo that looked mint, with FSH. Cost him thousands in repairs, just about everything that could go wrong, did. When he finally had it all sorted, he was just so annoyed with the thing, he sold it anyway. He lost several thousand out of the whole experience.
  2. GIXXERUK.... top!
  3. Too chilly for bikes..... Get out there ladies! I rode my Kwack 27 miles to work this morning, it wasn't as cold as I expected it to be. No ice either.
  4. Renegade + Junbao I bought a loom from Gavin (H100VW) - the guy in the post above this one. I had it fitted yesterday by the local garage (I am useless at this sort of thing, and pretty lazy.... ) I fitted some 30% brighter bulbs from Halfords as well. (did that bit myself!) The differnce is amazing. It's like a different car! Oncoming traffic at night was making me completely blind, I couldn't see the road in front of me at all. Most of my driving is on twisty, narrow, A and B roads in Cornwall, and you really need to know where the hedge is!! Cornish hedges are in fact, granite walls..... No street lights, white lines, or cats eyes. Anyway, the new loom and bulbs are amazing.... GET SOME!! My lights were so bad that the lights from the car behind were casting a shaddow of my car in front of me, because my own lights were so weak! Now I have bright, white light and I can see. 8)
  5. Cheers Henny. The Throttle body arrived today.... looks like a mean bit of kit!
  6. I am about to fit a Weber Firebreather Throttle body to my 1.8 16v What is it going to do to the low/mid-range torque from the motor? Anybody fitted one before?..... Henny?! My other mods have moved the power up the rev range, which I wasn't expecting. I want as much low/mid-range as I can get from that motor... not much it seems! Jim
  7. In the mean time, rev the t*ts off it and it will go a lot better. Mine doesn't really get going until after 4k rpm, after that it pulls hard right to the red line. You have to thrash it to make it go quick, and you will be amazed how fast you can take corners and still have grip! The handling rocks. 8)
  8. Stovey, bcstudent, coullstar. Bikes rock! Enough said. Acceleration strong enough to re-arrange your internal organs.... 8) If only the roads were always dry.....
  9. Yeah, low oil level. Mine made the same warning beep when I was canning it around a tight bend.... 8) I had a fit when I found that my oil was so low that it didn't even show on the dipstick! The shame of it.... However, DON'T over fill it with oil and then think that if it is burning a bit it won't matter, and it was "only a bit over filled anyway"... Next time you red line it in 3rd you will blow your head gasket.... trust me!
  10. Thanks for all the comments guys. I gave it a bit more of a thrash this morning, and there IS more power after 4,500 than I had before. It really pulls hard after 5,000. I have lost power at about 3,500 though. I will get a K&N panel filter in it, and get a full tank of Optimax, and see what that does. Below 4,000 rpm I get bogo standard Clio's and Fiesta's pulling away from me up a steep hill. After 4,500 rpm I am flying past them like they are stood still! There is definitely more of a pronounced 'power band' now, it will take a change in the way I drive it as LvP said above. Thanks chaps. Jimbob (now saving up for a VR6.....)
  11. LvP I have the ported and flowed head, the manifold, a full Supersprint Exhaust system. I don't have a K&N air filter, or any airbox mods at all. Oh, and one of Gavin's headlight looms to fit when I have time to do it... asap!! Gavin, I was expecting about 20-25 extra bhp with both mods. I did not think that it would push the power up the rev range, I thought I would have more lower down if it was breathing better than before. That's why I didn't go for cams as well. Just to clarify, TSR DID NOT DO THE WORK TO MY CAR, a local mechanic did it, I mail ordered the head and Manifold, he fitted them. He seems like a good guy though, has worked on C's and Mk2's for years, owned them himself etc etc.
  12. Kevhaywire, Yeah the Pack A is flowed and ported. Dunno about lagging with thermal bandage? What does that do? I haven't had a chance to look yet.
  13. I picked up my 16v this morning, with a new TSR pack A head, and a 4 into 1 stainless manifold. It is rubbish. I have lost any pull I did have below 4,000 rpm and although I have not completely red-lined it yet, the top end doesn't really seem any better than it was before either. It is now completely guttless below 4,500 rpm, it wasn't as bad as this with the standard head and manifold. I deliberately kept the original cams to try and keep the maximum torque in the mid-range, so as not to make the engine even more 'peaky' than it already is. I thought the new head and down-pipe would improve the mid-range, not kill it completely. Any ideas anybody? Does this sound like it's just badly set up? The mechanic seems to know what he is doing, he had two other C's in there with mine. He said he set timing up to standard settings. Should he have done something different?
  14. A 1990 G reg "Storm" eh?.....
  15. 5. On my valver it isn't the slide controls that are broken on the heater control panel, it's the black plastic 'cogs' and stuff behind the dash that are broken. This prevents the air getting to the windscreen because the vent to the screen never opens, because the shaft that rotates to open the vent never turns, because the cogs are broken. Arse. That will be a mare to fix! At the moment I have the vent to the screen permanently glued open, so that I can at least de-mist it in the winter.....
  16. Thanks all. I will add this to my list of things to tinker with at the weekend! :D
  17. My fuel gauge has stopped working. I have been told by the mechanic who looked at it that it is not the bit in the tank that is knackered, but the other end. The fuel gauge unit is a two part unit with another gauge in there as well - I think he said the temp gauge. Not sure. Is this right? Anybody had to replace on of these before? I have a 1.8 16v H plate. Cheers Jim
  18. Thanks for that Henny, I will check my bananas when I get home tonight!
  19. I have a blown head gasket on my 1.8 16v. So, when it goes in to be fixed on Friday I am going to mail order some parts so that they can be used for the rebuild of the motor. I am going to get:- a 4-into-1 stainless exhaust manifold, and a TSR Pack A 16v head. My original head will need skimming at least, maybe more, so I thought I would get a new head. I was going to keep the standard cams, because I don't want to loose low-down or mid-range pull, in favour of top end. I want as much torque as possible, not top end bhp. Is that right, or should I get "fast road" TSR 264/258 inlet and exhaust cams or something similar/better? What about an inlet manifold? What will that do to my torque? I was going to keep the original one. Cheers peeps.
  20. Thanks for the advice bighairymuppet, and Henny. I am getting a quote on a 20vT transplant (just to see how silly it is!), and a 2.0 litre bottom end transplant along with the gasket fix. :D
  21. Thanks for that Henny. I just went and checked the expansion tank and it is totally empty, so it looks like I have blown the head gasket. Will it be ok to carefully drive a short distance, if I top up the water first?.... Need to get it to a garage. I can't do this stuff myself, I haven't got a clue. I am a complete muppet with mechanics...
  22. Thanks for that Henny. I will go and look now. I could do without that right now really. That's going to be expensive. Could be an excuse for a few mods though, I was thinking about a 2.0 litre bottom end..... :D
  23. Driving my 1.8 16v home from work tonight, giving it a bit of right foot, uphill, in third, overtaking a van.... Sudden loss of power, and massive amounts of white smoke out the back of the car, and the inside full of smoke as well! I was at about 6000 revs at the time..... I am no expert.... but this isn't good is it?!!!...... I think I have blown the motor. I drove home carefully after that and it kept going, but when I revved it at a standstill once I was home, it was smoking pretty badly. Have I blown the head gasket or what? Arse.
  24. Mantaraman, They do pink I am afraid. Mine pinks badly on 95 RON. Get a tank full of Optimax and see the difference it makes! The car will pull from lower revs and go stacks better at the top end too. A Mk2 Golf GTI 8v has more low rev torque, the motor is totally different. You will find that you need to cane your valver to get it to fly, but that top end rush is FUN....! I wish mine had more low down pull though, you have to use the gears a lot to keep it in the power. I find that slow speed corners followed by a steep hill are bad, slower cars pull away from you to start with, and then when you have got your revs up you totally fly past them. The motor has to have plenty of revs otherwise it's dead. It's easy to 'bog it down'. I bet a Supercharger would sort it though...... !!
  25. I just bought some as well, but it actually says that postage and packing charges will "be determined at time of shipping". :?
