  1. Yeah that was me, I've not really posted much on there but I will be sure to keep them updated when I actually get things rolling again. I.e.the Blackberry money pit!
  2. Don't you need shims to preload the bearings or have I just misunderstood something I've read in the past.
  3. Certainly was, you can pick them up for around £15. Mine went straight into the UV eraser after having a quick nosey, so I did actually get some use out of it  What ever fuel it was, I don't think tesco's sell it :( On another note I'm very close to running dual maps now on the standard ECU which could be very useful for variable boost applications. Or in my case LPG.
  4. I can't make GTi international this year I'm at Glastonbury, I will try and make a few other shows/meets though, possibly the DG Auto open day. The two biggest jobs are getting a wideband fitted and socketing the ECU and yes you will end up with the laptop in the car all night, been there done that  It would also be useful to get some kind of detonation detection, but you can just log timing with VAG com and look for points where the ECU pulls the timing.
  5. On another note I bought one of the ebay remaps for the laugh, all I can say is it was laughable, theres no way on earth you can get away with amount of timing they have advanced by. :epicfail:
  6. I've seen quite a few remaps, and they are all similar in what has been tweaked, generally the timing has been advanced by a few degrees through the rev range, obviously this relies on the highest octane fuel you can buy locally. There are a few small differences from map to map, this is probably due to conditions when the remap was carried out eg. fuel octane level and inlet manifold temperatures etc. As for modifying fuelling you will need some means of measuring exhaust gases, typically a wideband AFR is used. This is recorded through the rev range and the maps are then modified to correct AFR to what ever level is required, 12.5 for power and 14.7 for efficiency. As for getting a copy of a good quality remap, this is possible if you ask the right people nicely, but they are done to suit another cars engine setup and will more than likely not quite suit your engines characteristics which is what makes it worth it shelling out £350 for a custom remap. Alternatively if you want the satisfaction of doing it yourself I'm afraid your gonna have to invest in the equipment which will pretty much cost you the price of a custom remap, however you can then tweek it at your leisure. :D
  7. Thought as much, didn't want to feel I was missing a trick though.
  8. When people say C2 software does it actually mean they have rewritten/modified the software or have they simply remapped it to suit certain engine parameters i.e. larger injectors and 4" MAF etc.
  9. B@stards, i've had occasional errors from this for a bit now but never worried about it too much. You best add me to the list if you have any joy. Cheers.
  10. VR6's are nearly all coming to the time when the following needs replacing: All the cooling system, Rad, hoses and heater matrix. Timing chains. Head rebuild. I wouldn't think twice at spending an extra 1K on a Corrado that has had all these jobs done, trust me I've now done them all in my 5 years ownership. Also look out for a car with renewed suspension components, the difference to drive is night and day. I've done the majority of work myself and recon I must have saved a good few £1000 on labour and then there's parts that will be another 2K. So what ever budget you had in mind spend an extra £1000 or two on one that had all the above done and its probably likely to save you several £1000 in the coming years. I'll not bother repeating other costs as they are as others have mentioned.
  11. You may well have mentioned this earlier but I'm going to pub in a minute so couldn't be bothered reading previous posts. Have you tried adjusting damping rate of the shockers, all this talk about softer springs etc. but I didn't notice anything on damping rate. Sure you have tried it but just thought I'd mention it anyway!
  12. Out of curiosity I just checked how much it would cost to set yourself up to do this and was pleasantly surprised. £15 for a UV eraser delivered off the bay and £21 delivered for an Universal EEPROM programmer with a free 27C512 EEPROM. You can't afford not to.
  13. That's what I was thinking! I was under the impression I could use the 0-5v signal the MAF produces to connect to the controller. Also consider this, it's probably easier to pipe up, also needs 5V though. http://uk.farnell.com/freescale-semiconductor/mpx4250ap/sensor-abs-press-36-3-psi/dp/1457153
  14. millerman :notworthy: :notworthy: I can't begin to think how you feel right now and yet dishing quality advice to other C users :salute: So I guess you'll be looking in the cars for sale section, go for it you know you want to!
  15. Not a clue to be honest, my brother bought them from another Corrado owner. I'll do a bit of digging to see if he can shine any light on the subject. I'm pretty sure they are 8J (maybe 7.5J) so wouldn't have thought there is too much to choose from.
  16. Yeah I'd be sure to turn up to any meets in this neck of the woods. I have a very busy June though so hopefully any meets would be either side of then. PS. I'm hoping to get to the Elsecar meet at the end of April.
  17. Before it came off the road for the winter, it still retained the VR6 warble with the extra whoosh of the charger. Plus the exhaust note just goes mad under boost. However that will all be changing as I have now put a short runner on so I could fit a charge cooler, now need to get my ar$e in gear and put it all back together. Also really need to get a centre cap sorted for that front wheel.
  18. Getting rid of my Golf 16V, on ebay if anyone is interested. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vw-Golf-GTI-16v_W0QQitemZ220576140620QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item335b5ccd4c As I now have an Aqua blue VR run around with Miltek and BMC CDA. Fuel economy is going to take a hit with that noise  Had to change the Radiator and heater matrix, which was a job and a half, but it had new chains, tensioners and clutch 18 months since so hopefully no major jobs left to do. Anyway it looks OK with a good polish.
  19. Hate to say it but he's right. You've more than likely just been screwed for a crank sensor that wasn't required :( And I'm 100% positive is possible to check any no spark faults without having to send the ECU off! For example use an LED to the input of the coil pack, it will flash! or use an oscilloscope! All sounds a bit like the guy you really trust doesn't really know much about VR6's or engine management at all. PS hope you get it sorted soon.
  20. I'd give it a good blow through with an air hose, I wouldn't spray any thing in there as it has the potential to either build up Cr@p or harden the shaft seal which could lead to an oil leak down the line.
  21. Anyone able to get a TPS discount these days as I'm told VW have clamped down on club discounts?
  22. I know this is an old thread, but I recon it needs a price update. Phoned TPS and it was 170.03+VAT :( Called into GSF at lunch time and believe it or not they had one in stock, its a new aluminium one made by Hella at £121+VAT, looked good to me but what do you guys think? Not sure what the stealer will quote yet but I guess it will be the same as TPS as he told me VW had complained about them giving discounts to none trade. So whats everyones thoughts? P.S. can anyone get trade discounts from Leeds TPS?
  23. I've just had a really good quote from AF with a supercharger bolted on and every other mod I could think of whilst I was on the phone (think I went to town with all the mods declared, sure the guy was getting pi$$ed off  ). Anyway it was through a company called Trinity Lane, anyone else use them? Opinions?
