  1. Has anybody else noticed that now seems a very good time to buy a Corrado? Especially the VR6's have got to be pretty much one of the best smiles/pound drives you can possibly get at the moment. I'm almost tempted to buy another just so I can keep mine nice. What else can I say other than I wish I was buying one now. Look below for what I'm up to now, I wouldn't be doing this if I thought I could buy a car with the same fun factor for the same dosh. PS. I tried driving an M3 and a 3.2 A3 quattro recently and just loved getting back into the C. No Sh!t

  3. I checked and double checked, my chains are fairly new so maybe when they stretch a bit the cams might level out a bit. This might also be the reason people seem to be seeing different offsets. My head spacer is 9:1, just for clarification. On another note I'm just waiting for the rotrex traction oil until blast off :clap: Unfortunately it's on back order, whilst trying to get hold of it a bit quicker I happened upon finding out that it is Santotrac traction oil (not sure of grade though) and it is quite special, apparently crystallises under pressure and therefore greatly increases frictional forces. Also their factory has just burnt down so I couldn't find out their UK distributors and prices as its 70quid a litre bottled up by rotrex. Hope that's not why it's on back order. :scratch:
  4. I put mine back together 0.5deg out after changing the ball joint and it was fairly unstable then, god know what that's like. Don't think I'd be using that mechanic again if I was you, as he either has poor eyesight or doesn't really know what he's doing. If I was you I'd do it by eye until you find somewhere with correct kit, its only a 10min job to get it to something like (a mate to help nip bolts up on the strut is recommended).
  5. Bit of boost pipework Unfortunately broke the vacuum one way valve trying to remove the blanking cap, Doh! Anyone rerouted the vacuum hose cos it seems to go the long way around? And is the vacuum hose supposed to be like glass, think it may have hardened over the years. :roll:

  7. Yeah, me and the mates enjoyed it. I woke up freezing though, so had to run. To my nice warm bed. Mmmmm :sleeping: I recon I might be able to fire it up next weekend on the standard management.

  9. Some nice new pictures. Some ARP goodness, I will be making sure I get my money's worth out of these, I.e. some nice levels of boost. LPG injectors in case anyone was wondering what they look like. New INA followers, do they now coat them with a harder surface finish?? or were my old ones polished from running???? :scratch: SP263 cam's in, am I the first from the last GB? And finally on with my question, does this cam offset look the same as anyone else's with a head spacer??? This is at TDC, one tooth either way and they are a county mile off.
  10. The points and fine are now retracted pending confirmation :pale: . Assuming that goes well, the average person surely does not deserve all this hassle for somebody else's mistake. Anyway, hope my bro takes the insurance company to the cleaners, although knowing him he'll loose hope after first rejection which is sure to come, think I'll give him a prod to sort this out properly. I'll post the final outcome.
  11. You are of course completely right about that. The Police can't issue a FPN for this kind of offence, and it usually takes months to get to court. I never even thought about that, I'll see if I can get some further details regarding how this £200 fine came about. Then again I'm an engineer and generally think logically, law is well beyond my scope of thinking.
  12. Cheers, it wouldn't surprise me if my old ones are now twisted. Strong bar and a scaffold pole were required along with me and a mate swinging on them. Tiiiiiiiiiight! is and understatement.
  13. Can anyone enlighten me with the torque settings for the cam shell retaining nuts and the cam sprocket bolt. I'd guess the sprocket bolt is about 5000Nm as I guess that's roughly what it took to remove it. Cheers in advance anyone!!
  14. Well I would have thought that would be the sensible option because everything else obviously checked out, but noooooo, they must have thought lets outcast ourselves that bit more. Don't think my bro got PC's number but it might be on the fine. I doubt it's worth even trying to do anything because he was simply doing his job, be it a little hand over fist. Think it's time to make the insurance company pay now as after all they were the root cause.
  15. OK naming and shaming time. It was Privilege. And as for the cops it was a black brand new saloon A6, unmarked with no lights/sirens on the manvers, bloody quick aswell by the sounds of it.
  16. I understand where allot of you are coming from with the police only doing there job's, I do agree that they should be clamping down on the real criminals and I'm glad they do. BUT surely they should show some sort of sensibly discretion for genuine errors instead of going at it hammer and tong. If they had given him a little time to see what had happened it could have been sorted at the side of the road. (turns out it was an indiscretion with his no claims due to running 2 policies at once or something like that, but they failed to notify him) I have seen road wars and have to admit most are cops seem very reasonable, however this cop did not appear to be a traffic officer, he seemed to be an armed response unit in an unmarked car without lights on. Which brings me to my second point, my bro recons he (the cop) was doing well over the speed limit when he caught him up, no light's or sirens, was he not breaking the law then!!!! :nono: Also at the end of the incident my bro reckoned he was a right jumped up :censored: :censored: , surely this is an :epicfail: in developing relations with legit drivers. Anyway there is light at the end of the tunnel, he's been to local cop shop and they have confirmed that he was actually insured and are dealing with retracting the fine/points. And the insurance company are coughing up for the car recovering. As for inconvenience, time and stress etc. this is a matter yet to be dealt with. Really, after this little episode think I may well be doing that, and I'm quite sure my bro will be. Oh and finally why in gods name did they have to take the car 100 miles away. WTF.
  17. My brother phoned me up for a lift home yesterday due to the following. He bought himself a 3.2 quattro A3 a few months ago and thought all was well, until yesterday he was pulled for apparently driving without insurance. The police even phoned up his insurance company who said they have not insured that car. The police promptly called for the car to be towed. After being left stranded and told him his car had been taken to Northampton (from Barnsley which is miles away) he was given 6 points and a £200 fine and told it would cost him £150 for the recovery/storage fees. God only knows how he felt at this point, but he called his insurance company with his full details only to find that he was defiantly insured and there had been an error on their system. They said they would pay the recovery fee so he could get his car back. I was fuming when I got off the phone to him so I recon he must have been near suicidal. What do you do if this happens to you, think I'd be sprawled over my car. But surely the police should have been a little easier on him as nobody drives a car like that uninsured (he did claim that the police man was a bit of an :censored: ) Could they not have checked his paper documents as he only lived a few miles down the road?????? As for the insurance company :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: Just shows you how nanny state is kicking in, and how we are so called protected by the police/dvla databases. Any views, or how to get a little compo from this incident would be nice.
  18. Good stuff, I missed this thread. Ver interested in it due to you making your own ECU :shock: Awesome stuff :D Your engine has been running sweet as a nut, one of the best I've seen. How long's it been running LPG? Since it's a gas to begin with, it tolerates cylinder imbalance a lot better than petrol injector mist. Depends on the boost. Up to 10psi I'd say not necessary. The VR6 pistons are pretty strong, loads of meat above the first ring land and they have a good squish bowl, perfect for boost :D Any of the online car audio places mate. I'd use 0 gauge and earth to one of the seat belt anchors, again with 0 guage. My battery is under the rear arm rest and I get the same voltage at the engine side of the loom as I see directly at the battery posts. This info should help. 60-2 trigger wheel, sensor position is 78 deg BTDC, firing tooth on Startup = 2. Cam sensor injection angle (end of injection) = 53 degrees Cam sensor position = 90 degrees Cheers for the info Kev, V. Useful. Yes it is, luckily I got it on the cheap from my brother along with the 6 branch who had big plans for his VR6, however now he's bought himself a 6 pot A3. I think he got it from awsome.
  19. It's been a little quiet on this front lately. So thought I'd post up a little update. I lost a little motivation at one point as some parts weren't as easily available as I hoped. Anyway it's moving well again now, head rebuilt with new springs, valve seals, followers and SP263 cams fitted. ARP hardware with head spacer fitted (someone please tell me these were 100% necessary :shrug: ). Realised a 3rd machining modification is required to the rotrex bracket to make it fit correctly (beginning to take the pi$$ now). The boost pipework is on order now so should be able to fire it up soon. Charge cooling is now the subject of the day, anyone know where to get heavy guage wire for moving battery? I have some hardware for my management system now but is just gonna be for process monitoring at first (test drive). I have noticed my crank trigger wheel missing tooth is ~90 degrees off TDC, can someone just confirm this for me :scratch:
  20. Just a few more pictures. Unfortunately a bit of corrosion on this, a bit of liquid metal should sort that. Touch of carbon build up to be cleaned off. Almost tempted to put this on wall instead of car. Block looks in good condition, should be good for a bit of extra boost. Mounting bracket for charger doesn't fit so I'll have to slot one of the holes which is rather annoying :shrug: , a bit of the head also needs grinding off for tensioner pulley (same old story with the rotrex installs). Just waiting on valve springs at the moment, then its all going back together. :D As for engine management I've been designing the electronics in my spare time, I've customised it for the VR6 engine and my LPG setup. Currently I have inputs for: Manifold air temperature. Manifold air pressure. Throttle position sensor. Cam TDC sensor. Crank position sensor. Coolant temperature. 2 x knock sensors. 2 x exhaust temperature sensors. Fuel pressure sensor. Air fuel ratio. (Lambda) And outputs for: 6 x petrol injector (current controlled) 6 x LPG injector (current controlled) 1 x ISV PWM output. 1 x PWM boost control output. Can anyone see anything I've missed, or any other Inputs/Outputs that would be useful.
  21. I helped my mate put 2 weber twin 40's in his jetta 16v conversion. Very tricky to setup well, and is NOT good on fuel. :shock: We could not get it to run lean enough on the idle jet although it is nice and smooth.
  22. I am on a very sharp watch out for LSD, cos gearbox removal is a pain in the ass, and would rather not do it twice.
  23. Thought I'd start a thread for my minor modifications :D I put my car in the garage this week and started work on it. These are a few of the parts that will be going on. SP263 cams and APR's. Rotrex SP30-94 and mounting bracket! Estimated peak boost around 14psi. A few other bits under my bed include head spacer, forge diverter valve, Innovate LC-1 and larger injectors (just petrol at the moment). Head is now almost ready to be removed for rebuild (cam followers, uprated springs and seals to be fitted) I'm gonna clean everything up while its off too, including polishing inlet manifold and hopefully giving the charger a little polish. Due to the LPG system I've got big plans for the management system which I think may surprise a few people. As I'm an electronic design engineer, it will be a one off. That's all I can tell you for now. I'm having a day off today, so more updates should be on here later in the week.
  24. I did consider tyres which are a touch wider, so is defo an option. I'll see what is available for the wheels I want. In the mean time I'll see how I go on my 205's with the traction.
