Tough one, especially as my mods are all 'little league', as keeping it fairly standard. Spose it has to be adding the 'later' gearshift weight, as it's something I can feel and appreciate every time I drive the car. Like the eyebrow spoiler too....told you it was small stuff only! Working on LED brake light built in to the spoiler at moment but needs proper finishing off when I get a chance......

I was getting hacked off with people not in the know over VW's commenting on why was I running round in an old H reg car! Did a bit of searching and found , in amongst alll the GAZ this and WAZ that...... KVW 200N . Thought thatl'l do for me, especially for £99! To me at least it reads as K armann V olks W agen LOON.

Not sure if it's the same for a G60 (which yours looks like) as a 16v , but you should be Okay to keep going for a bit, but get them replaced as soon as you can as not desirable. Would expect it to take quite a long time of use before any ill effects really began to show. Ran mine with a lazy tappet for a few weeks before I got the chance to change them. Pretty easy to do, on a 16v at least. It is technically possible to identify which is the lazy one, but I would (did) just replace them all at the same time, as they aren't majorly expensive, if one's gone the rest are probably near to going, and you wouldn't want to put it all back together and find you changed the wrong one!. Think they were about £8 each from GSF. Just one thought though, isn't Mobil 1quite thin, which might be a contributory factor? Were you the H reg that came past me this morning near Gibraltar Gardens, sounded like a tank (joking, joking!) If you need a local hand let me know.

Bojmobile, Yep!

Hmm, well, the handbrake mechanism on the rear calipers on the C is well known to be prone to seizing 'on'after a few years of loyal service . This leads to the symptom you describe of the handbrake being very high, and having to be yanked on so the lever is really far too high before the handbrake works. Long term solution is to replace the calipers with later Mk 3 Golf / late Corrado type (straight swap), or Mk4 golf type (think you need different rear brake hoses to do that? Can you jack up the rear wheels to see if the handbrake really comes off when it is released, or is it dragging a bit? At the rear calipers take a look at the area where the handbrake cables attach, is it seized up, can you free it off? This might be the basic defect, which is common and known on the C. I would guess the bracket at the handbrake lever is adrift because of it being yanked on so much! I thought this bracket was bolted on with two bolts (unless I'm thinking of my previous Mk2 Golf), so that could be an easy fix once and if the rear calipers need sorting. It could be a problem with the cables themselves, but unlikely. Don't know how handy you are with a spanner, but the rear calipers are pretty straight-forward to replace (about £80 for both as I recall), the cables are about £15 each (x2), and if I'm right the handbrake lever base should bolt back on again, provided the bolts haven't actually sheared in the holes. Don't panic, doubt it's gonna be a mega expensive exercise either way......probably reckon on needing new rear calipers. P.S for more info try a Forum Search, as this will have come up before as it's a common defect. You could be lucky and find it's nothing to do with the rear caliper mech after all , and just a loose handbrake base as you describe and nothing else wrong......

Deviboy, Ah, oh well, never mind, wasn't 100 % sure I wanted a late bonnet anyway, but at £35 thought I'd go for it anyway.....would have taken it if could have been sure could get it in car. I was the bloke who spent ages staring at the early and late C;s parked side by side at the CCGB stand, trying to decide which bonnet type I preferred. Must have looked a bit shifty to the Club guys :D Bloody shame about some of the toss clientelle at the event though, place had a bit of an edgy feel I thought rather than a proper VW owner's group hug feel...shame.

Blackberry with black leather interior, my favourite :-P Very nice!

Easy IMO, always use only genuine VW oil filters, and for the oil for the 16v stick with VW Synta Silver (Semi Synthetic). Good quality, original VW specfication, and not too pricey!

Well I believe thats what the CCGB have tried to achieve (with some success I might add) at their National Days. Last years was really good - nice venue, well organised, great turn out (over 200 cars IIRC), some traders & dent removal guy, and a show and shine contest & trophy. And the bonus was it was free to all CCGB members. They are planning to do more this year, and if one could be combined with a 1/4 mile event as has also been discussed, it'd be dynamite IMHO :) True, went to Woburn and that was fantastic (big thanks to all CCGB who organised this!), and certainly didn't have the 'drug dealers on parole day out' feel that bits of Inters had....now, must get my lapsed CCGB membership sorted out, meant to do it at Inters but was too busy spending on other bits......

G60Renshaw, Ah, didn't clock the leather too much, was too in awe of the dash. Youv'e really finished that beautifully

Got to admit, quite a few less than approachable people around I thought. Nice to be referred to as a 'there's a pig filming us, i'm over there with the camera...' Christ, all I was doing was recording the Sprint....lovely people! Not a bad show over all I suppose, but then first Inters I've been to. Disappointed about a few things though.... - Unabe to park with other C's group, and agreed to buy a 'late' bonnet for £35, but in the end didn't go for it coz wasn't sure could fit it in back of car, and Staff wouldn't let me take car down to seller to try it  How about a Corrado Inters.....?
-
Thought it was rather odd that my standard 16v recorded 183Bhp on the rollers at Inters! Think I'll disregard that figure! Still, the main thing is the curves were a lovely profile, I suppose, with the horsepower climbing steadily and the torque a nice long flat curve. That's the main thing, right?

Depends what you mean by working fine, i'd bet a pound to penny Supercharged, is right, and a cable is snapped. If cable broken the sliders will still slide fine. When you slide the controls over their full range can you hear a sound like something moving deeper behind the dash, and does it feel like there are points of resistance when you slide the controls? That's how it should be, if not and the sliders slide veeeeery easily, and are a bit floppy then 9 times out of 10 it's a cable gone. I'm assuming of course your engine water temp. is coming up normally during engine operation, so your thermostats OK?

Could someone give me an idea of the value of my C?
kvwloon replied to Steve&Claire's topic in General Car Chat
Don't do it, it's priceless! 8) Sorry, not much help I know. Don't know the market values myself but I would guesstimate around £2,400mark for what sounds like a good one! I could be well over hte mark though, worth trawling the usual car advertising mags. C values seem to me to be getting stronger, including the valvers. -
G-Lader, Yep, my thoughts exactly, the silver with black leather and the pristine condition had me drooling :D As for the TT Dash C, saw that at Woburn CCGB Meet last year when it has only just been completed, standard of it now it's finished is superb. Sure I heard two guys walking round it saying 'nice Porsche interior!' :?
-
Very, very nice!
-
Some nice pics there, I especially liked this C which caught my eye. Immaculate! Anyone here?
-
That's what Dent Devils did on mine yesterday, nasty but typical Corrado dent right on the door crease line, and it's perfect now :) !
-
I think anything suitable for the Mk2 Golf will fit, which should rather increase your options! If my memory serves me right (was over 4 years ago) I got some grey smoked ones, exactly same shape as originals but grey smoked and listed as for Mk2 Golf.
-
Well, I'm no auto electrician, but if it were me I would take the stereo power from an ignition switched power source such as the positive wire to the fan switch, as that's only powered when ignition is on.
-
Of course, no worries :) , it's just that I've had so many hassles in the past with 'Insurance Approved' Bodyshops doing bad spraying, I'd do almost anything to avoid paintwork!
-
True, but stil much better than loads of re-spraying and all the hassle that can lead on from that. I'd much rather a quick and easy dent removal any day to new paintwork. Personally I reckon it's a reasonable cost on balance, especially when you see the near instant results.
-
Cheers for the info all. Think i'll put that little idea on ice then!
-
Stooopid question perhaps, but is there any allocated parking at Inters, such as CCGB or Forum etc where the C's can sit happily together, mine isn't special enough to qualify for a stand, unless someone needs a pretty standard 16v to make up the numbers, in which case i'd happily oblige..... :)
-
...but, no Tippex Corrado thank Christ!
