Golf VR6 slower then C VR6 - Please explain!
Leonard replied to sprinterVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Don't forget the Mk3 Golf VR6 drivers inferiority complex weighs very heavily..... -
I know what you are saying but I was talking about mods that actually give you some REAL performance gains not just 1 or two horsepower. My BMC filter probably gave me a couple of extra horses but I know I have lost some torque from fitting it also. Free flowing exhausts tend to only give up there true potential when fitted as part of a mapped package. Then normally only on turbo applications. Unless you are going back to some old V8's or a nice big Chevvy block you just dont get decent performance gains without optimising all the mods with a remap.

Altho you really should get that number plate surround colour coded ;) Done mate, painted it gloss black last week  DSCN0170.JPG[/attachment:otdzv20c] Damn you that looks spot on as well LOL

That was an option I considered. But I thought it would be rude not to celebrate the fact that it was a VW 8)

Well as I think your car looks shite hot and as that is how mine is at the mo, shall we just close the thread now LOL

Fair doo's. I quite like autoglym stuff because it doesnt give a shiny finish.
-
Damn I knew someone would say something that would cost me money lol
-
No that is stealthy, love it :norty:

Well that was the idea mate, when I had the car sprayed i was just going to stick new silver badges on. But when I went to put them on they didnt look right anymore for some reason :confused4: Probably because they clashed with the wheels, lights and de-stripped sides. Im not really sure
-
Ok so no red badges LOL Just thought it may look ok with the all red rear lights. Any thoughts on sidestrips. Anyone taken them off and that put them back on again
-
Did you use the Autoglym leather feeder cream, or just the cleaner?
-
Right, I am pretty happy with my car the way it is now, however.... I cannot decide wether or not to put the side bump strips back on, I only took em off to begin with as the car was resprayed. Plus I cannot decide wether to put the VR6 grill badge back on or leave it stealthy. If I do put it back on shall I leave it silver, paint it red or colour code it like my front VW badge and rear Corrado badge? :confused4: I realise this isnt a particularly interesting thread  But i am a bit bored and may end up doing something just for the sake of it, so any opinions welcome. Just dont tell me I re-sprayed it the wrong colour as thats way too much work  Cheers for any input Matt

I think the point is the VR6 engine has never been an engine that responds well to chip tuning. You cannot compare it to modern engines that have a lot of safety margin built into their maps. Be it for longevity, or because the engine is shared accross model ranges or perhaps more pertinent price ranges. I am aware of at least a couple of tuners who fudged rolling road results in the 90's early noughties to make their VR6 chip tuning appear more productive than it actually was! That is why I dont really see where this thread is heading. A std VR6 mapped will maybe gain a few horses. The reason the 263 cams offer such good value is for the NA performance they offer at such a reasonable cost, even taking into account a £250 remap. The 268 cams are good but as far as I am aware they offer most of their performance gains higher in the rev range. Where as the 263's offer that but not at the expense of the mid range. As I think everyone is agreeing it will be interesting to see how they fair and compare with the 268's when fitted with a VSR Matt

Coming on nice! Who are ppi? Look like they have done a cracking job 8)

What mods are there accross the whole spectrum of the car world, that offer better performance and driveability without a remap or ECU change?
-
Nice one cheers m8. Is it an EIP conversion?
-
Off topic but I went in my mates new Civic the other day. Awesome steering wheel!
-
Nice one. I thought it was going to be like the late VR6 one though but dished. Still looks good though.
-
That would be nice, any pics? 8) Matt
-
Nice! Love the wheels and the colour 8) Im a bit so so on smoothed bumpers but again you are almost convincing me  One more vote for the red interior, there was a link on a here last week to some 911 red recaros that would have looked spot on. Matt

Do you know what bearings were used?? surely still under warranty??? I have had the car 8 years (done 40k) and I have had VW do my bearings twice and an independant whom i now use do them once. And now at least one is due to be done again... The first two times were obviously VW parts and the latter I am assuming were VW as Im sure I asked for genuine parts (but who knows). They have only lasted as long as the VW ones anyhow. My car doesnt get a hammering but to be fair the roads where i live in the Peak District arent exactly smooth and I have Koni/Eibach suspension and a front anti roll bar. Matt
