Damn guys I really think Im gonna have to just go for it and sort my motor once and for all! Thanks for all the info and opinions most has been very reassuring  Final question...and a practiacal one, do you think I should keep my VW Motorsport VSR and fit a Vortech Stage 2 as well or sell the VSR and just go for the Rotrex. I know its reasonably early days with the Rotrex but I am liking the 'stock' feel of it and its lack of noise. Or are you sold on your turbo's? Car will be a daily driver for me as well albeit 4k a year. Cheers everyone had my C for a long time now and been on here now and again, but I'm only really starting to get the feel of the place and get involved :-)

The trouble with the Quaife type ATBs is a wheel must spin before the locking mechanism can engage, then it shunts up to 85% of the torque to the wheel with most grip. Only Sliiiiiiight snag is it takes a wee second to react in the wet when you give some beans in 2nd joining a roundabout....it's bloody hilarious....I've gone from the inside to outside lane automatically without touching the steering....adds new meaning to the phrase "driving with the throttle"....and then when the quaife grabs, you find yourself launching up the road with monumental grip (for a front driver in the wet at least). I'm not sure if mine's actually working properly tbh, but it's amusing anyway  In the dry though, a FWD with an ATB is unstoppable 8) The Focus RS was as fast, if not faster than an Evo 6 round a track I seem to remember from Evo's scribblings back then? Now your putting me off again that sounds absolutely positively bloody deadly!!! LOL  Regularly get to drive an Evo 6 and I just cant see the Focus being as quick somehow. Might have something to do with the extra 100bhp over std though :D I really need to go out in one I think before I invest. May give Storm a ring and see if they can do owt. Do you use your car everyday or is it a weekend toy only?

Oooh that does sound spot on! 8)

How many Rotrex Corrado's have we got on the forum Dave do you know?
-
Thanks for the info Yeti :-) And Phil I like the Cupra R drove real nice. However Im just not a fan of the 1.8T VAG engine, sorry.
-
Thanks for that sounds good. I think I need to try one any takers :D I guess Storm must have a demo havent they?
-
That was the case with the RX7. Dont think that is the case with the new Renesis engine tho.
-
I'll have you know I was thinking more like 4.5k difference cheeky :D Tis tempting tho!
-
LOL Oh dear doesnt sound good, wonder if an aftermarket exhaust would help? Then again may just make it sound like a strimmer! :?
-
LOL cheers guys. Yeah I know that rotary engines eat a lot of fuel but yeah your right wont be much worse than the VR6  Think the engine has a bit of a stigma attached to it after the RX7 but that was running twin turbo's 8) Plus RX8 is completely new unit. Joe did it sound nice (always important) :D

Thanks Dave. Totally agree with the keeping the chassis nice and tight comment. If mine wasnt pretty good i wouldnt be even considering more power until I had sorted it. I guess you must be running 300bhp + arent you? :-)
-
Hello! Cheers for the reply. I understand what you are saying and I have a fair bit of experience with powerful 4wd cars. However I am imagining you have to be very careful with the throttle if you are running 350bhp in a front wheel drive C. So does that take away some of the handling balance ie adjustability in corners, horrendous torque steer etc Glad you replied and have a Quaiffe :D You can maybe let me know how 'grabby' it makes the car feel. i drove a Focus RS and on the rough Peak district roads around where i live it proved a little tiring having to pull it back into line all the time (if you catch my drift) :-)
-
I really shouldnt even be thinking about selling the C, but thought I would be sensible and weigh up the options! Before I spend £4k + on the VR6 I notice decent RX8's are only around £10k. Not 100% on the looks but it is a fast 'sensible' car for the money. Going for test drive on Sat, anyone else had a drive, got an opinion? Matt :-)

Ok so 7 years ago when I bought my VR6 I always thought 220bhp through the front wheels would be about spot on for the chassis. Now I am about to go about getting that power i am having second thoughts... Many of you guys and gals are running turbo's and superchargers now (and the Rotrex charger looks soooo impressive) I am wondering if I was way out with my initial impressions of the C's chassis? So what are peoples impressions of cars running more power than just a VSR and cams. When is a LSD a MUST HAVE? At what power does it start to feel undrivable/unbalanced? Peoples opinions greatly appreciated :-) Thanks Matt

Oh and the place scared the sh*t out of me lol

9 mins 40 but it was in an Evo and not the C

Anyone reccomend somewhere to get the inners refurbished on some OZ 3 piece wheels? I am based near Chesterfield (Derbyshire) Is it possible to paint the inners without splitting them???????????????????? Thanks Matt

That is SOOOOOO true grrrrrrr  -

LOL Now that is not what I was saying at all, I 'think' I started this thread because it was all about other peoples perceptions of you driving the C. Same way I perceived an older gentleman the other day of indeterminate age as being perhaps a 'little sad' Only because he happens to still own the original Mk2 golf gti that he bought 22 years ago, keeps the mileage down to 3k a year, polishes it every weekend oh and has a pony tail! Now you could say that is 'cool' but I think deep down we all know that it is not and I was a little worried I would slowly start the metamorphosis into him! Not saying i should get a boring car, just something a little more modern. Would a 3.0 Z4 with aftermarket induction, exhaust and CSL alloys be pipe and slippers, hmmmm I'm just not sure. Not sure about much today, perhaps I am having a midlife crisis, better cancel that hair cut... -

i don't believe that about the polo, surely a vr would waste it? Real world not really unfortuantely! 130bhp and 220ft torque (before you chip it for £350 to 180bhp 280ftlb) plus six speed box makes it pretty rapid and you get 50mpg  Yeah sure if your on the right roads then yes the C will pull away, but I feel happier overtaking a lot of traffic in the Polo due to the torque spread. -

Yep I know exactly what you mean, there is no car under 350Z money that I would be happy driving over the C and even then I would maybe have to go Porsche 911 and then you are talking even bigger bills! I guess after I get my car sorted I will have spent about £4k in a month, so it is always at the back of your mind that you could sell up have £5.5k in your pocket and add that £4k you were gonna spend and just get a 10k car! Plus I probably spend a grand a year on servicing/repairs, so could save £500 there as well. :? But yes modern cars are lacking a bit arent they. Sister had a brand new S3 and it was pants. Civic Type R pants etc etc. Perhaps I should go the other way and buy an even older car that is more my era, back to the Scirroco Mk1? Matt -

Leonard replied to Leonard's topic in General Car Chat
Well if you are going to keep it you may as well look your best! Re People selling up, I dont think it helps that the Corrado is not that fast a car on the roads anymore. Yes its fast but my sisters Polo GT is faster real world than my VR6 with a 130 tdi engine in it :( So think a few people are looking for more power. Other thing as you mentioned is keeping them going! Not a cheap thing to run a 12 year old plus Corrado as we all know! lol Matt -

LOL Cheers for the replies guys. Think Im just going through a 'sensible' mid life crisis :D Did get to drive a 400bhp Evo 6 Tommi Makinen a lot of the time as well but I defo feel like a plonker in that now! People scowl at you if you go past schools doing 5mph :( lol I was feeling a bit like selling up so hoped some of you would tell me I was an idiot (in a nice way of course!) Looks like a respray, some split rims and the fitting of my VSR is on the cards then. I think the thing that gets me is my gf is non plus about the car and I somehow always feel like I should be turning up to her parents in an Audi Avant or something to impress lol. Anyway.....I have seen the error of my ways for now! Thanks Matt :)
