  1. Ok, so this thought has been crossing my mind a few times over the past month or so, getting fed up with the valver (especially as its not selling) and the VR is currently sat in pieces while I wait for some parts (hence why I'm using the Valver). Coupled with the fact my '69 beetle project is still in pieces (only just finished welding the floors up) I have been thinking about getting a new car, possibly using the valver as a p/x. I want to stay VAG and have been toying with the idea of an A5 or Scirocco (haven't decided which flavour yet) but I'm interested in what peoples views are on the two, and which ones people would choose/pros and cons. Obviously I haven't made my mind up yet even if I'll buy a new car and this might just be mindless dreaming but every week it seems I have a new problem with either one of my 'rados. Just this week gone the alternator belt went on the Valver and I find myself more and more just saying 'FFS! all the time...' So, opinions please!

    VR6 Parts

Hey mate any news on this?
  3. Nah, its not engine mounts, the lower crossmember takes those. There's an additional bracket attached to the VR one for the offset on the radiator. I checked my VR against the one in my valver and that is the only difference. I can cut and weld the plate from my old one onto one from a valver/g60. I'll take some photos when I get the new/second hand one. I checked on classics, its over £400!
  4. I've been doing a bit of research regarding the part numbers and the first 3 digits denote the vehicle, the 4th is which area (ie 1 is for engine) then the 5th and 6th are a sub area and the last three digits are the item and whether is it left or right. The final letter is for the version. So, with that in mind since the last 3 digits are the same and only the version is different I would imagine that the fixing points will be the same, going on the pictures I have seen anyway (I know assumption is the mother of all f*uck-ups...) The brackets on the 4 and 5/6 cylinders are different and from the looks of it, it won't be very easy to fit the AC to a 4 cylinder vehicle. (for Unfortunately i'm not running OBD2 at the moment so I cannot connect that up, however if I can have the connection I might leave it there. I think I've got stuff to go on now, I will get the MK4 compressor as i am happy with the part numbers MK4 5/6 cylinder MK3/Corrado
  5. Ok so I need a new crossmember for the VR, just the upper bit. Now, looking on Vagcat and various pictures the VR and 16v/G60 look identical, the part numbers are the same apart from the last letter; 535 199 171 D or 535 199 171G for the 16v/G60 and 535 199 171H for the VR. Would it be safe to assume that they are both the same, minus perhaps a couple of things? The letter I understand denotes a modification but do these two items vary that much?
  6. Ok cool looking on ebay at MK3 and MK4 pumps/compressors the MK3 has part number 1HO 820 803 D and the MK4 1J0 820 803A (seen one with the end letter as F and K) and they look identical. Also, rather, naively, where would it mount? I take it since the P/N are virtually the same I shouldn't need an additional bracket? Looking at Vagcat the lower section of both the MK4 4 motion and 'rado VR6 alternator/air con brackets are the same so I am guessing the AC goes underneath the alternator? Also need a double ribbed belt. Ok got it with the temp switch, I saw a thread on here regarding the drier and rad where someone made their own mounts for the MK4 and looking on eBay at other 2nd hand ones I know this one vaguely fits, it comes with the drier so I'll replace that as you say further down the line. The only issue with Vagcom and the positions is that unless I can get the full loom, which I doubt I can from this guy, I'd need to find another way of connecting it to the ECU...
  7. @ Tony Ack - Yeah I've read through your whole thread, nice work! Unfortunately it only really covered the dash side of things. Regarding your list I have (or will have): - Climatronic heater box and ducting: complete box from the MK4 with everything in your list, i will check the condition of the matrix but will probably change it for piece of mind. - Climatronic control panel: The sale includes the MK4 control panel - Climatronic loom: Sale includes the loom and sensors, hopefully enough loom to splice back. - Car loom: Unfortunately I will have to splice and make my own loom. - Compressor: I will be taking the MK4 one as I was under the assumption it would be ok, shall I take the bracket also? I will source a new belt obviously. If it'll be easier I'll source a MK3 one. - Condenser: Again taking the MK4 one, my radiator crossmember is knackered anyway so I'll either repair and modify to fit or when I source a new one I'll find a way to make it fit. - Drier: As far as I'm aware bolts on the side of the VR rad, at least thats what I have researched. - Pipework: I was going to take as much as I can from the MK4 and if necessary get the rest made up. - Fan controller: The VR is a '94 so already has the late controller and twin fan setup - Coolant temp sensor: This is a new one to me, didn't realise I needed to change this? I know its a bit crazy, but other people have achieved it and I'm not afraid of a bit of work, currently also got a '69 beetle project in pieces ;)! The car is off the road and both the dash and front end need to come off anyway so I thought 'what the heck!'. If it doesn't work (or I get fed up with it), the AC part at least, I'm sure I can sell it on. I also know a few guys who are good at fabricating and I can get things made through work if necessary, I will attempt to do a write up but I might not do the whole conversion this side of winter (AC to come before summer) as I want to get the beetle on the road before the year is up. Thanks for your replies though. Edit: If it is easier to source MK3 bits please let me know as I can let the seller know he won't need to strip them out of the car...

Bump! Really need to lower radiator crossmember section else I cannot put her back together :(
  9. Anyone? I know quite a few people have done this, search shows that, but there isn't anything substantial in terms of exactly what is required...
  10. @DiamondTony - The 20vt engine uses CANbus from memory and you can get an adaptor for it @stretch - See there's your answer, the late ones won't really work as they don't use a speedo cable, my 92 was the crossover from early to late and just uses the vac hose. The gubbins fit so you can swap the plastics over, the gauge will be out on the fuel tank. I'm not sure whether you can just use the actual gauge (but use your face for it) as I would imagine that the adjustment would be the same but hopefully someone else can answer that...
  11. There are a few differences with the clocks, some of the early corrados had smaller fuel tanks. Also you'd need to check whether your cluster uses the vacuum hose for the speedo, digital vs analogue odo etc... Another note is that the mileage on the odo is stored in the clocks not the ECU so if you swap them it'll show the incorrect mileage...HTH!
  12. Hey guys, my heater matrix went a little while back and coupled with the fact that my dials only work on the windscreen I figured since the dash has to come out anyway I'll attempt the climatronic conversion. Now I've found a guy who is stripping a MK4 V6 4motion and has all the bits there so I have secured the blower box, partial loom and climatronic control box but I'm a bit lost as to everything else I need: Obviously I'd need the rad, compressor (guessing this is just the pump?), pipework, condenser, evaporator... I'm not sure about pulleys and the bracket, can I use the ones from his MK4 V6? Or do I need to source some other ones? Can anyone let me know what is needed as he is hoping to get it all out for me for this weekend so I can collect it in one hit but just needs a list of parts. Many thanks :) (I have done a forum search but nothing is definitive as to what is 100% needed)

Hey mate, does that cost include your getting it tidied up for me? If so I'll take it :) Bump for the other parts!
  15. Hey Jay are you thinking about getting any more of these done? I need to replace the mounts on my VR and this seems like the best option :D

Well until I can get hold of the radiator bracket its not worth putting it back on the car, how much extra would that cost me haha!

    VR6 Parts

Yeah part number 535807181. They're now obsolete. I have a colleague at work who's brother works for VW so can source parts and get me the discount. The only bit that is available from my list is the lower bumper grill. What is needed to make yours look ok?

    VR6 Parts

Hi there! I am looking for the lower radiator bracket, the one that sits behind the bumper. I can't find the part number on Vag-CAT. I also need the metal clip for the front splitter and the lower bumper grill, although I believe these 2 items might still be available (as on vag-cat it gives me a price in Euros...) Also need the clip on the firewall for the brake pipe feeds to the ABS pump. There will probably be more as I go along! Thanks!
  19. Ok so turns out its not the master, after taking everything apart and driving it to work this morning its actually the heater matrix. The fact that it was dripping around the m/c and because its viscosity was similar to brake fluid that's what i was lead to believe (the anti freeze emulsifies in the water and makes it go oily). The fact it made an audible noise difference when i put my foot on the clutch - something that didn't happen before. I could see the fluid running down the lh foot rest as there were no shelves fitted under the dash and as it was a bit chilly this morning I used the heater to clear the windscreen and there was a funny smell. Just as i got to work the coolant light came on - a typical sign of the heater matrix. I checked the passenger side carpet and its wet around the centre console - another telltale sign.... *sigh* looks like its a dash out job!
  20. I'd already guessed that its the master cylinder. The level is good as it only started today. There's no linkage, the piston is attached directly to the pedal. The system for the mini is similar although the master cylinder sits vertically on the bulkhead rather than horizontally (I've been involved with minis a lot of my life ;) and my housemate has one we've been restoring). The question I've got more relates to how easy is it to resolve as the master on the bulkhead doesn't seem too hard to get access to on the engine side but does it need to be removed and withdrawn from under the dash inside the cabin or from the engine side? Are the seals replaceable or would I need a new master?
  21. I've got a brake fluid/clutch fluid leak somewhere, I got out of the car to find my left shoe soaked, the pedal, and after pulling up the mat finding that the carpet is soaked...its not water, its odorless, oily and dries a bit tacky. Removing the tray under the steering wheel and the tray is wet and the foam saturated. Peering up underneath and behind the dash the leak origin isn't clear. There is fluid build up underneath and around the where the clutch pedal goes through the bulkhead, it has splashed around the other pedals however the foam on the shelf is soaked and so is the foam stuck around where the accelerator cable goes through the bulkhead which doesn't make sense... I'm not with the car right now so will post a picture in the morning. I think its coming from the clutch master cylinder, I was still able to change gear and the biting point didn't seem to be any different. The only other sign was that with the clutch depressed there was like a 'sucking' air noise that would disappear when I pushed the clutch in... Any ideas guys?
  22. 92'/J reg is the crossover year, it has a late exterior but early interior. My valver is a cross over but I swapped all the interior over from a late car ;)
  23. Hey mate I had a similar problem with accident damage to mine, needed a replacement passengers door and repairs to the rear quarter and bumper, not as much damage as yours but again i wasn't at fault. The garage quoted £1400 to repair it but the insurance were going to write it off and only offer me £1100 due to part availability. I said no and argued it, said i'd get the parts second hand, got door and trim parts for the measly sum of £30! The garage took 3 days to repair the car, the only thing now is its a slightly different colour. Its just more of an nuisance rather than anything else and really time consuming. I was gutted because they said they'd repair it then changed their mind, took the courtesy car off me and offered me that crappy sum of money! At least you can get it sorted too. http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=81688
  24. I did mine and made it black as i had some fabric from work, although the heat got to the glue and pulled it off >. It does look good though.
  25. You don't have to remove the cams to get to the bolts. I did the HG on mine twice. Make sure you get new bolts as they're stretch bolts and will also need replacing at the same time. How far have you got? Have you started removing anything yet?
