Hey Dave, how easy is it to take it out? My VR is coming off the road soon so can take the shifter out and send it to you.

I ordered some with them when I did my mums car a few months ago, as he said, good price, fast delivery and the colour match was excellent.

I did a half body respray on my mums mk1 Mondeo (wings, bonnet and front bumper), funnily enough it a very close match to my Sherry Pearl so thankfully I've had a bit of practice with metallic red-based paint. Thinning isn't too much of an issue as long as you make sure you use the right thinners for the paint (celly vs 2 pk/basecoat) Ideally you want 60/40 but after a while you get a feel for the paint. The delivery of the paint as David says is the next issue, all depends on the pressure and the gun itself. You want a small nozzle 1.4mm and reasonable pressure, but it all depends on the thinning ratio. A clear coat is a must on metallic paint to really get the best finish and to protect the paint. Unfortunately even with all that taken into consideration I'm still going to have to polish the whole thing with fine grit and polishing paste to get a really nice finish. As David said, flat colours are so much easier, especially as there's not necessarily a need for a clear coat over the top, the clear coat I sprayed was pre mixed 1k so I had no control on the mixture and too forever to cure! Eventually looking to do some bodywork on my VR, hopefully it'll come out as good as yours David! On a side note, hopefully looking to book the beetle into your dad's garage next week - been on holiday so haven't had time! Did a full respray on that, but went with a flat matt colour to save on the polishing haha!

Looks like my bumper, should do mine too really! Incidentally how long does the paint last on the shelf, wouldn't it have separated and be less efficient after 3 years?

I could do with a set, the garage that replaced my door didn't use all the internals from my old one and now the window rattle is a pita!

Get a mk3 golf VR6, or mk4 (with climatronic) compressor, same fitment, its what I have got installed on my VR, mine is from the climatronic off of a MK4

Don't fit cheap! I bought a cheap CV from ECP and it sheered at the joint so avoid them at all costs...

I bought mine from TPS a few months back...gave me additional discount because he didn't think it was right it being an older car!!...and he thought it looked cool, paid around £7ish iirc...

I have fitted the clima and works a treat and kept the aircon matrix and will be fettling with this over summer hopefully....but i don't think its going to be that clear cut!

The thing is I already own the leather, and its Andrew Muirhead so its good quality leather. Don't forget its also not a full retrim.

So does £700 sound about right? Surely other people have had experience with re-trims in their cars?

The drivers seat base in my VR has 2 cuts, they were there when I bought the car and its now just bugging me. Through work I was able to source some leather free from a project that we had and its good quality leather. My plan is to replace all the bases and backs of the seats with this leather as its red so the seats will be red and black. If there is enough left to also do a couple of other areas. So i have only got one quote so far and he reckons about 2-3 days and around £700. My question is does this sound about right for the work involved?

Put me down for a set please :)

Haha! Brute force and ignorance! I had the same problem when I did my climatronic and pulled the dash out also had to add a new loom. I don't have any tips just make sure all the cables are tucked out of the way and nothing gets trapped, hook the bottom in first then just PUSH and hopefully it'll clip back into place : P
