Strange one - This problems seems to be slowly getting better. Is there a chance the ECU is relearning how to run properley since I've changed some of the components on the engine? Would resetting the ECU help?

Problems with Neuspeed 180 Degree 3 Pole Fan Switch
hodaz replied to MonkeyVR6's topic in Engine Bay
I've got one fitted to mine, would explain a lot if the dont work very well. Hopefully a proper VAG one will sort it out :D My car is a 94 VR and has the 3 pins in a row FYI. I have also got to mention that my car has ran 100 times better since removing the Neuspeed Cold Thermostat, left the car in "cold" mode all the time, meaning it ran rich and used loads of petrol. -
I know this is an old quedtion, and I've done a search but not turned up any similar problems. My VR6 (1994) had a few running problems when I bought it, namely running rich, weak/non-existant starts and erratic idle. I have finally sorted all this out thanks to repalcing the Nuspeed "cold" thermostat for an OE item, replacing all the temp senders/sensors, new MAF, clean TB and ISV, clean crank sensor and replace ingnition switch. However now that the car is finally running and starting fine, its also running too hot. It sits at about 110 in all driving condition, if ever it goes above 110 then "stage 3" fan comes on, so I'm not worried about it overheating as such. But surely running at 110 all the time isn't normal? What can I do to get the temperature down? Failed fan switch?

Slow to pull away, lacking power, running flat, holding back

After reading this I cleaned the white plug, mine was quite dirty, this appears to have finally solved my hesitant starting problems :D -
Took my Corrado (1994 VR) apart today to fix the leaky thermostat housing, and once it was apart noticed that the Green wire going into the oil swicthes unit wasnt connected to anything, and where it should be connected was just what looked like a plain bolt head. Is ths important and what part nuber will I need to reconnect it? Had a look on the online ETKA and it looks like "056919081E oil pressure switch", is this correct?

Edit: Sorted, got genuine used part off ebay.

Thanks for clearing that up. Was getting confused as the Euro Car Parts lists the later style MAF as 93 on, which is obviously incorrect (well I know now anyway)
-
Mine in definately an early one then, strange as my Corrado is 94
-
My car is a 1994 VR, and it has the early style "wire" MAF? I only realised this as mine was potentially in need of changing, I bought a one of the forum, it said for a late car, but have only now realised it doesnt fit? Has my car had a different engine fitted at some point? :cuckoo: I hope not

Where is the crank sensor?
-
Clean and check the ISV and MAF.

My advice would be spend 4k on a minter, instead of 2k on a slightly neglected one that needs work. If only I could turn back time :(

I'm in exactly the same boat at the moment. Corrado ownership can be so stressful. Sick of spending all my free time and cash fixing things. Most frustrating thing in the world seems to be that you fix something, its ok for a while, then the same problems comes back and its caused by something else. Also how difficult is it to work on a VR6, big engine plus little engine bay means lots of swearing and skinned knuckles. Yesterday my Corrado even tried to runaway from me when the handbrake cable gave up! Leaving a big scuff on the front bumper and crack in the splotter :( But its all worth it for the few weeks when it works ok before breaking again
-
Brock B2's look tasty on a Corrado.
-
Its strange because my green bulbs work perfect, i guess it just depends how many layers of tint and lacquer you put on.
-
Can I retrospectively take the prize from last year

If anybody else is based in Newcastle/North East then Monty at Bass Mechanix comes highly reccommended. Very cheap too.

Fuel filter clogged? Lines going into fuel filter? Would be the two obvious ones to check. Another possibility is the pump, if the wiring is dodgy, or the pump itself faulty, then maybees when you connected the battery charger it remained on, was pumping fuel still with nowhere to go and was lost through a weak point in the lines, that wouldnt normally be under much pressure?

VR6 running problems- water leak, overfuelling, not starting
hodaz replied to hodaz's topic in Engine Bay
Yeah its running so much better now. Cost about £300 worth of parts (fuel pump, fuel filter, ignition switch, airbox/filter, both water pumps, drive belt, coolant flush filled back up with geuine G12, oil and oil filter, spark plugs, temp. sender, heater selextor and resistor) and a few weekends labour its very nearly back to its best. The engine with the Miltek exhaust on sounds absolutely gorgeous too now the cone filter is gone :D My girlfriend has been using it as her daily driver and absolutely loving it. -
VR6 running problems- water leak, overfuelling, not starting
hodaz replied to hodaz's topic in Engine Bay
I have been really enjoying it Adz, the fuel pump has just been replaced, and the hesitant starting was just the ignition switch. The car seems to be running much better since I took the cone filter off and replaced it with the standard airbox with a K+N panel filter. I think it was so far back in the engine bay it just sucking in hot air and making it run "lumpy" at low revs. I dont think the car is overfuelling TBH. Its nearly running mint now, once I get the recirc pump done it should be sorted. In response to above if the car is overfuelling I might try and chnage the fan switch/thermostat back to OE items if its not sorted. -
VR6 running problems- water leak, overfuelling, not starting

Leak was the Aux Recirc Pump, so going to fit new pump and put new G12 coolant in ASAP, any advice about the Superchip fuelling issue? -
Hi Guys, Just bought my 1994 VR6 a couple of weeks ago and having a few running problems. I've had a look through the search function, and can't really find anything thats a solid answer. The problems with the car are; -Water leak (will try and trace this at the weekend) Also tends to kick a bit of white smoke out the back when starting from cold -Hesitant starting (intermitent, doesnt seem to matter if hot or cold) -Suspect overfuelling? Car runs lumpy at low revs. The strange thing is though is that it runs fine once its going, and still goes like a rocket at higher revs. The fuel pump relay and fuel pump have just been replaced. Also been told by previous owner that it has a Neuspeed thermostat and fan switch if that makes any odds. Obviously the first things to do are find the water leak (hopefully something simple) and I'm going to change the ignition switch to see if this has any effect on the starting problems. Could this be why its struggling to start? The car definately seems like it overfuelling, and I noticed that in the service history for the car that it has been superchipped at some point in its life, could this cause the overfuelling since the mixture etc is controlled from the ECU? Can i just remove the Superchip easily enough, or will it need to go back to a specialist to be setup again? To be honest the engine is running too nice to suspect that anything major is wrong with it, the oil is still nice and clean, and no mayo etc. But the next thing I'll do is replace all the plugs (anc check condition of old ones to see if it has any clues on fuelling issues), fuel filter, oil, oil filter, and obviously replace all the coolant with genuine VW G12 once I've sourced the leak. Would it be worth doing a compression test aswell just to make sure everything is as it should be? Any other pointers?

Also got this problem, is it bypass valve?

Can you post the link please? I cant find it.

Also widths, tyre sizes and adaptor sizes please! Looking for some inspiration :D
