I noticed the difference in weight up front when I put a vr in mine to replace the valver, but it's not as bad as you would expect, can always move a bit of weight to the boot
-
Broody I'll be plastering in norton next door to yours allday Friday, I'll pop round and help ya out if ya still struggleing, I'll txt ya in the mornin incase u ain't got my number still

To make the lock mech work for a3 handles you just bend a decent bit of metal wire, I fitted Audi 100 handles to my last mk2, measureing cutting and weldin, was time consuing but pretty easy, filling sanding and painting ain't my cuppa tea tho, bodyshop would make short work of this, a3 handles do look mint on rados, I'm gunna weld myself a set o some earlier Audi handles in soon seen as the previous owner smoothed the passnger handle, and corrado door handles are easy for theives to get past

The 1.8t is nice and light, good power output, pretty straight forward in comparison to the 24v n r32, seems the sensible choice no matter what engines previously in the car, I'm a sucka for vr noise tho

I've took the bolts off the thermostat housing with mine, nit tried em on lockin wheel nuts yet, depends how hard a steel the lockin wheel nuts are and weather u can get the tool in, mind you I don't think I would tell anyone if these did take wheels off, I pray my wheels are still on my car everyday, -

Irwins are a must have, just make sure u make a good job of puttin the new bolts back in, when ya play with old cars like we do you've no idea if previous owners have already rounded bolts, cross threaded em in etc, no joke irwins are a god send, I removed a driveshaft bolt with mine recently after who ever had previously had hold of it somehow rounded it out, -
I put a vr6 into my valver, real easy swap, my insurance was 170quid cheaper this year with the vr than last yeat with a 1.8 16v, £432.00 with vr, I'm 28 with 2years no claims, and a rich history of points n car crashes. As said above it's all down to preference, for me it's lightwieght, quick and good fuel economy, vr is quick but fuck all else, doubled my weekly fuel bill and I don't rag it half what I did the previous 2.0l valver,

Irwin bolt grip removers, worth every penny, I don't waste my time undoing Allen bolts with Allen keys anymore, they get driveshaft bolts out too if you strip them, it's best to use a crane so u can leave the front cross member on make ya life easier since there's a mount on there too, dissconect ya battery first, and cover the terminals, easy to leave spanners on top of there. If your in and around Sheffield area/south Yorkshire I'll happily come help anyone if I'm not busy and bring my irwin bolt grippers.

It's very common to have noisey tappets in krs, what's your oil level lookin like? if you do replace them soak the new ones in oil for a day or two to fill them up, otherwise there loud as fuck for a few hundred miles,
-
the early mk2 ones tuck nicely into the mk2 rear quarters, they don't fit well anywere in the rear o a corrado, and are a nightmare to source, I've got a mk1 rear washerbottle in my boot

Dynamat, cut out most of the road noise, buts it's expensive,

From personl experience, I would change the lot, all new seals, and silicone sealant as I noticed how I'll fitting half the seals were the otherday when I was dealing with this headache
-
Can't find it for the life of me matey, must have sold it, sorry
-
I might have a spare cover mate, if I can find it I'll pm u my number later

Seems like a deal, bought a crack pipe and all the necessary gaskets the other day, crack pipe was 20quid with 2 o-rings from vw, and the rest of the gaskets came to about a tenner,
-
Vr radiator would be a pain to plumb in becasuse the inlet and outlet are on the nearside of the rad, standard rads have always been fine for me, but my freind had a slighty bigger deisel rad in his 9a mk2jetta that ran 165bhp

Fair bit of work involved, simply extending engine looms is a little daunting, I've made looms for dash functions and they all went well, shouldn't be that bad realy if you've plenty if time and the patience of a saint, I've enquired about new engine looms from the dealers before and they want around 200 if I remember right, keep us posted as to how you get along, and what all the bits and peices cost,

Sand paper, and sore fingers, I had a 16v cam cover that I had removed the ridges off, go a power sander were I could to get the texture off, then simply sit down with a film and got busy using different grades of paper and a block, you can also use autosol and other abrasives, I finally used 2500wet and dry then get a buffing wheel on a drill. Same process as wheels or any alluminium parts.

Listen to David, he has a very good engine set up, and has had for a long while now, and always gives good an accurate advice. kr heads and inlet manifolds have bigger inlet ports (realy early kr heads barely need the inlet ports porting, but are becoming harder to source) when I fitted the 50mm inlet manifold and kr inlet cam I missed the low down torque the narrower 9a inlet n cam gave, all the kr stuff was fine on my lighter mk2 but pulling the corrado off the line wasn't the same. The top end difference was noticeable, personally I would keep the 9a inlet manifold, and fit a kr inlet cam and a abf exaust cam, k&n filter and a fourbranch, and as much dizzy advance as your engine will let you, all this can be acceived for less than 200 if you keep ya eyes peeled for deals. Shaving weight off your car is free and helps. Smaller wheels give good acceleration if you want to keep going source a kr head and post it to the man in the shed on clubgti for a port n polish new guides etc, costs around 300, I've recently fitted a vr, it's a treat, but has a drinkin problem, and the extra weight up front is suprisingly noticeable, I'm not 100% sure, but think abf heads and inlet manifolds are not a straight swap on kr and 9as

If sheffield isn't too far from ya stu, ya more than welcome to have the isv Ive had sat on my back seat for the past 2weeks

Over heating seems to be the most common cause, hot spots, pinking, more often than not most folk just don't check ther fluid levels frequently enuff and run there cars dry,
-
Looks like all the answers you need are there mate, plenty of turbo and intercooler parts at the scrappys these days, shame scrap yard prices seem to be rising tho.
-
Ya gunna sell the car cos the head gaskets gone? Sure you could get it done for leas than 400. Doesn't cost 100 for parts.
-
Yeah should be fine, bit of petrol, owt realy, if it can soak for a while, that helps the most, it's shocking how much oil and shit clogs up the airlines, oil catch tanks are worthwhile

Binned mine, not noticed any differences.
