  1. Looks good so far Jamie. I'll be joining in November (may as well take advantage of the 'extra value' increased membership length :D )
  2. I'm going to get the VR6 I've just bought serviced at my local one-man-band garage (I've always taken my cars there). However, although he uses good quality stuff, it's unlikely to be oem spec - eg. Castrol GTX, possibly Champion plugs, etc. So, having read through countless posts in the forums I've concluded that it may be best if I buy the service items myself from VW. To make sure I've not reached the wrong conclusion I'd appreciate it if someone could comment on my decisions below. The car does have a service history which shows that it was last serviced in March 2001 (that’s not a typo ) but that was only 6k miles ago (so hopefully isn’t a problem). It’s now got 107k on it. Oil - best compromise seems to be Quantum Synta Silver Semi-Synthetic 10W-40 (for winter). Would this still be a good choice even if the car hasn’t been serviced with Synthetic before? Oil Filter, Air Filter, V-Belt – Only use genuine VW items rather than eurocarparts or other general motor factors. Plugs – NGK BKR5EKU only. Coolant – I’m expecting that this won’t need anything doing, but if it does then ideally it should be drained and refilled using G12+. I’m assuming that prices for these basic items won’t be too bad, and not significantly more than eurocarparts – would I be right? Many Thanks, Tony. P.S. Thanks to all those people who contribute to this forum - it's been really useful while I was looking for my car. Hopefully I'll be able to put something back in to it myself one day.
  3. I'd been looking for one for a few months this time (did look a couple of years ago but couldn't find anything worth the money being asked). Most of the ones that interested me this time were too far for me to travel. Didn't want to pay a fortune for a perfect one with very low miles or mods either as I do 80 miles a day just getting to work and back - but this one's ideal, it's a good standard car. I'm not planning any mods at the moment - need to see how that fuel economy goes first. Dazzyvr6, yes, it is a lot different to the 'rocco - brakes that work, suspension, performance, power steering... I could go on but you get the idea :) Dan, once the vr6 is serviced and in daily use I'll be getting rid of the 'rocco - it's still good even with 152k, but it just has to go. I expect I'll be asking some rather basic questions in the other forums very soon....
  4. Wanted one of these for ages to replace my Scirocco but didn't want to pay silly money. Finally managed to get this one on Friday. Haven't had a chance to clean it yet but thought I'd post some pics anyway. It's a '93 in Dark Burgundy Pearl.
