Very interesting, obviously everyone else has had a go to, I wonder how accurate these mfa`s are i remember having a series 2 gti k jet and i used to get 46 reguraly out of it but they were always known for good mpg. Anyway who cares Performance is what we want, After having a VR6 golf for 12 months my 1.8 16v does seem a little sedate but sometimes i think driven enthusiasticaly it performs well i have touched 140 in my old one which had starship miles but this one 60000 miles struggles at 135 not bad for a 1.8 though, :) :)

Hey everyone, went out last night did a 70 mile round trip Tested my MPG and got 36.6 mpg out of my 18 16v {saddo} When you all have some time on your hands see what you can get, ??

Hi Ross its weird it seems ok now appart from the fact that the heater only works when it wants to ? Im going to the main dealer today to see if its had the heater recall done ..
-
Hi Ross ive just had a load of trouble with my 1.816v overheating it was a knightmare totaly unreliable the maindealer told me it was the headgasket but i checked all the usual suspects, ie. themostat, blead the system countless times new antifreeze, lots of head scratching i was told the heater valves could cause it to overheat, after 2 weeks i finally tried a expansion cap, and that was it, but the heater still wont work and now the rad has blown ! so get a second oppinion and then another oppinion, because dealers can be wrong, as regards unleaded causing a problem i dont believe that ive been running my 16v on it and ive had no problems, i think £400, sounds. try a specialist there usually cheaper and better Good Luck !

Yep definatly the rad, steam coming out the top, anyway rad weld did the job. looks like i gotta try and fix the heater now its freezin.
-
Looks like my rad got a hole in it somwhere, this car is cursed gonna try some Rad weld 4 now. Any experiance with this stuff please let me know, i know its just a quick fix..
-
Thanks for that Roddy i think its been done as i had one done on a GTI and i think its the silver valve that fits on the hose, but i will check with my main dealer
-
You name it ive tried it, you think if it was the head gasket it would be like it all the time wouldnt you..

Thinking of spending some hard earned on the corrado early this year, my suspension is getting a bit wollowy so ive decided it needs uprating i was considering a koni eibach setup but dont know how low as im running 205/40/17s i dont want to compromise the ride to much, also ive been told to use VR6 top mounts, any ideas welcome. BTW its a 91 1.8/16V !

Happy new year to you all, Hope everyones not suffering to much. Finally got the corrado running again after about 6 litres of antifreeze, new thermostat, and lots of checking, it would not stop boiling over, My independent specialist told me it was definetly the head gasket (Big money) i nearly booked it in but thought i would try a expansion bottle cap. Bingo, sometimes it pays to start at the bottom, replacing a thermostat on one of these on boxing day is not to be recomended,Anyway now i can enjoy the corrado again! But the heater only seems to work when it wants to? any ideas i thought of those silly return valves, which one causes the problem? also any ideas on antifreeze ive used duckams blue, but the book says G10. The vortex site says anything else will ruin the system ? Any ideas... :?
