Bigger rims and lower suspension - Issues?
4eyes2wheels replied to 4eyes2wheels's topic in Drivetrain
Excellent! Let the pimping commence ! -
Thinking of going up from 15 inch speedlines to 16 or 17 inch somethings. Also the suspension is original and could obviously do with a replacement. Coilovers seem to be the thing. So if I were to go to 17s and a set of coilvers with 40 mm drop would I be dragging on the ground or would one cancel out the other? Also would I be rubbing the tyres on the arches? One more if I may? How does the speedo react to a change of wheel size? Thanks for your time!

mr.otis I will pm you the cost list breakdown of exactly what the package price from D and G Autotech was. Its involves mk 4 tensioners etc and other bits and bobs. Would you mind PMing me the same info - I'm going to pay DG a visit too in the near future and would be keen to know how many of my livers I need to sell!
-
What about these then? Would they go straight on to a VR6 ? link broken
-
I hate it when people sit on the fence! I'll keep thinking . . . . no point spending out on something that might ultimately hurt the future value
-
I suspect the merest whiff of a pot hole would make quite a mess . . .

What do we think of these people? Dezent RB Silver 16" 4 for £339. Assuming right number of studs, offset etc what size wheels go straight onto a VR6 with no mods?
-
Do VW have "parts online" or is it a casae of going to the local dealer?
-
Cool - I'm off to see them next Saturday so they can draw me up a shopping list.
-
What did you have done?
-
If I'd seen that I might not have bought my two VR6s!
-
Thanks chaps - booked in to go to DG Autotech (nice 130 mile each way trip but I'm sure they are worth it) to get some top notch advice on what needs to be done.

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...

Cleaned it, clay barred the bonnet and the roof, cleaned the engine bay a bit, reattached the drivers side little indicator which was loose and rattly. Also booked myself in for a visit to DG Autotech next week. Excited /nervous about that! -
Very interesting qualifying already - won't give anything away yet but well worth a watch! :D

I'd be interested to know roughly how much this sort of upgrade would cost. I love my Corrado and don't do many miles but I do need it to be reliable (what am I thinking?) so wondering what else needs to be done to bring a decent 73k VR6 up to "modern" standards. Basically I have the chance to buy my brothers Sciriocco off him in a couple of years - it will have 3 years / 90k on it by then - and I'd get it for a knock down price but if I could make the VR6 as reliable then I'd probably prefer to keep the C. I'm not mechanical but (fortunately) could afford to have various bits done. So if for, say, a couple of grand I could have all the bits that are liable to be on the way out replaced (engine sensors, suspension, exhaust, and no doubt 100 other things I don't know about) and retain the exclusivity and classic look and feel I'd likely do that. Advice / talk me out of it / recommend somewhere in Surrey who can give me honest advice and help? Thanks guys and gals!

Ruddy hell - that has had a lot of cash thrown at it. Should be MINT! Make sure you hold on to your license as I suspect it goes quite quick!

Suspect there might be issues to consider but it sounds tempting -

Please stop - you have just prompted me to look at R32 engines. There are a couple of places that will supply AND fit for £2450. -

Got it Mot'd with no work or advisories. -
Mrs 4eyes is deputy head at a girls school and was using the C when her BMW failed to cope with the snow. The maintenance manager at the school has said if I'm ever looking to sell it to let him have first refusal!

CazzaVR for rapid delivery of top quality VW grille badge  -
Was round my folks yesterday with my VR6 parked next to my brothers 58 plate Scirocco when their former Porsche 911 airline pilot neighbour came over and started heaping praise on the C. He was well impressed with the 190 bhp from the 2.9 lump and confessed he had always wanted one. He said cars hadn't moved on much in the last 20 years when looking at my brothers rocco - which to be fair makes 200 bhp from it's mere two litres . . .
