mine's about that low... but on 15"s. "I'd have lost the exhaust by now if mine was that low..." yep... its happened. pulled over.. knicked some stones from a landscaping storage lot, propped the exhaust up on those.. went in the YMCA and grabbed a coat hanger... tied it up and went home, dirty.

Are Corrado's the best looking affordable car ever?
G60 replied to PhatVR6's topic in General Car Chat
i agree kev. thats what i thought it wasn't actually designed by the same guy... but rather... had styling cues from the scirocco which was done by the same guy. anyone know for sure? -

crx vs corrado looks-wise is no comparison. the corrado owns the crx all day long. there is a local guy here with a crx that is done. full kit, all the twinkly shiney bits, 18s (right out to the edge of the fenders..nice) lime green paint and everytime i see him when i'm in the corrado... he's already staring at me. his eyes never leave the corrado the whole time. that says it right there. about the corrado looking old? name another car design that appears less-dated than a corrado that is 15+ years old. these were designed in '88 were they not? interesting that someone mentions how dated probes look now... i worked with a guy who drove a probe.. and when we got to talking about the corrado, he said he thought i bought it brand new, he thought it was a 2002 or 2003 and he couldnt understand how i could afford it! when i told em '90 he thought i was joking or mistaken. the guy that designed the delorean also did the scirocco... but was he also directly involved with the corrado? i always thought that the corrado had similarities with delorean styling because the scirocco looks so much like the delorean, and the corrado was modeled somewhat after the rocco. would be cool if the same guy did all three... interesting bit of trivia. was the delorean made at karmann too? if so i'll have to buy one. then i'll have all three! always wanted to get one, first mod: flux capacitor!! -
for a corrado? no one makes them.. roll out the metal

most important thing: clean body. make sure its straight. no rust at all. knock on the rear quarters to make sure they weren't bondo-ed up. all the mechanical parts are somewhat easy to replace if you have some patience (its just an 8v a2 with a supercharger really)... but its the bodywork that nags if its lacking. expensive and time consuming to tear a car down for paint! good luck in the search. :D

might want to cut down on the trips to the liquor store there duncan! ****mod edit**** pic-size reduced-vr6storm

..wouldn't it be nice if VW actually put syncro in G60s and VRs like it says in that article? :? i suppose low sales numbers killed that one.

^ i'm glad they lost that extra trim line that goes around the whole car. here's some good ones.. bit of corrado rally, g-lader production and corrado wagon history as well! (sorry about the size of some for those of you on slow connections or reasonably-sized monitors)

hey i got some for ya.. justa sec...

i still think the "how do the seats come out?" post is always the funniest when i see it on the dub forums. its SO simple once you are told, but if you don't know, it seems like a real hassle! i bet you could swap both front seats for two different front seats in about a minute and a half if you didn't have to mess with heated-seat connections....2 minutes flat for heated

and if you go with a cooler thermo... it *could* be a bad thing. you want your oil temps right around 100..if you're below that its not optimal. something else to keep in mind! you can always flog it up to higher temps tho!

18psi of flow from a supercharger won't be as much flow (CFM) as 18psi from a turbo. don't ask me to explain it.. but a turbo puts more sheer airflow through the engine at any given pressure than a supercharger does. so if these guys are saying 18psi should be fine, and they have a supercharger, it doesn't necessarily mean a turbo at 18psi won't blow shit up. something to keep in mind. good luck with the car.

could be ignition switch. mine cut out while i was pulling away hard in 1st gear. ugly noise and everything stopped. then the wires started smoking.

Yeah Kev but we don't have them! what do you mean you don't have em? we've had 24v VRs for at least a year over here.. i remember when the first GLI arrived at the stealership.. so surely you guys must get em? if not ship one from germany. 24v VR6 is a much better engine. if you're going to drop the cash on a charger, be it turbo or super, why not do it on the better engine? is it a flat curve from about 2000rpm to 5500rpm? :D
-
hell no! i'll buy two more :D
-
who would go around spreading all this "VR6 is the one to get" rubbish

why is it always vr's or g60's what about the rest
G60 replied to aposegil's topic in General Car Chat
i didn't read all those posts.. but my 2 cents on the whole thing: a) we didn't get 16v corrado's here b) corrados are heavy cars, i wouldnt want anything less than the power the G60 or VR put out.. yes you can bring a 16v up to the same power level.. but by the time you've gone through the hassle you can have made a 200+hp G60 for around the same cash. c) i'm buying an 82 rabbit and probably an 86 cabrio this week. one of those will get a 16v! light cars :D -
one of the major restrictions on the G60 setup is head flow. for the DIYer..you can hold out for good prices on bolt-ons and do upgrades yourself.. but head porting begins to go into a new realm of skill. i've just found a good article while surfing some mk1 forums for DIY head porting.. its worth a read if this interests you at all. http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.htm :)

...although i would consider a trade for that syncro system you've got lying around your shop

ben: a) i'm in canada - shipping a dash across the ocean would be dumb b) not complete.. just the dash - was an insurance replacement in the stealership bodyshop because there is a 1mm cut in the vinyl on the side of the dash that is only visable if you crank the door all the way open. i got it for free when i was cleaning up the shop. i call that perfect condition ;) cheers.

right you are gazza. i worked at stealer for a little under a year and the guys who were twits drove grand prixs and cavaliers and talked shit about dubs. especially G60s, and other rare® kit. the guys who knew their shit drove old-schoolin audis.. track-prepped porsches and had respect for the mighty G. (did nothing but talk shit about VR 'pigs' tho) i still have a smile on my face from when i asked the head tech (20+ years stealership vw/audi experience) to take a ride with me to see if my G60 was 'healthy'. as soon as we hit the onramp his knuckles went white on the 'oh-shit!' handle and he didn't let go until we were back at the shop  "ya. its strong" he says

(wish i would have got to this post sooner...) bit of wire?
-
i've never felt i needed a stupid-expensive car to enjoy driving... by 2008 i hope to have a 250+ ft/Ib TDI in an a1 body for a run around.. and have the corrado all minty fresh and be driving it every (sunny) day! ..probably still drive a dirty beater in the winter so i can trash it without remorse!
-
someone mentioned these cars being easy to fix... IF you know the fault. do like i do when i'm stumped. go to the shop you trust the most... tell them whatever's wrong... act like you're going to get them to fix it... get them to find the fault... then when they spring the cost on you say thank you good day and pay them for their time. go home, order the parts online and do it in the driveway and save 1/2 the money for beers and women.
-
ive got a perfect mk4 dash sitting out in the shed... that looks better than i imagined when i snapped up the free dash! doubtful it will go in the corrado tho...
