VR6 belt tensioner bearing replacement - how to.
Den_VR6 replied to PhatVR6's topic in Suppliers Forum
Anyone who's tensioner pulley is squealing - be wary, mine started to squeal a little on Sunday after a fast run (don't ask how fast!!), so i thought i'll get the bearing and replace it. Called in at BSL in Bolton on Monday, but they operate a minimum order policy of £25.00, so i left empty handed, thinking i'll pick one up elsewhere before weekend. Driving home tonight, the tensioner pulley has shattered; luckily the belt stayed on so i just about managed to limp home. look's like I'll have to buy the complete tensioner assembly now... So, if your tensioner squeals a little - fix it before it breaks... -
Sounds good - count me in!

A couple of cars that I missed out on when looking for my 'rado a couple of years ago. One may look familiar to some on here, ex PVW feature car. Are these 2 cars still around??

Amusing for a Saturday morning... http://www.donkeydoesf1.co.uk/ (hope the link works, first one i've ever tried posting..)

Deffinitely the problem. As Kevhaywire said earlier, you settle the bearing and then back the nut off slightly. Plus, packing too much grease in there is the wrong thing to do and can cause problems, so don't over do it when you replace the bearings.

burgundy (i think?) C on regent road in Salford about 4 o'clock, heading into Manchester?
-
18" are too big for a 'rado, IMHO. the ride will deteriorate as well due to the low profile you will need to run on. I'd say 17" is maximum.

Hmm, seem to have gone a little off topic here...is there any good reason why NOT to reset the ECU? Has anyone found that the car runs worse or even won't start at all after ECU reset??
-
major problem - I only have coffee experience - am I at risk of completely "Caffeine Overdose" of my ECU then?
-
how do you reset the ECU on a VR6? Are there any risks to it?

Fitted the suspension myself, run for about 40 miles to allow everything to settle down, then took it to Awesome GTI for rear bushes & wheel alignment - heard that the bushes are a swine to fit...
-
Koni top adjustables now fitted, new top mounts all round; new rear axle bushes and wheel alignment carried out today..what a difference, feels like a new car and corners like it's on rails..

I've received a response from my email, saying they have already arranged the shoot with someone and if it's ok, van he retain my details for future use... Who knows, a 'rado on Corrie??
-
Email sent.."fairly" standard looking, plus I work in Manchester anyway...

Mystic Blue Storm on a N plate heading up the M602 lunchtime today?

Thanks, nice to have a long-term view, will try GSF i think.

Just got new front mounts and bearings from Euro car parts, but they don't do the rear top mounts - any idea how much these are from VAG? Plus I presume new dust covers/gaitors are recommended - are the powerflex bump stops and gaitors beter than VAG kit?
-
Order placed - looks like i'll be busy next weekend. Any advice on top mounts - how much are they, best place to buy? Is VAG better or are they much the same from GSF or Euro?
-
Does the Koni kit that larkspeed supply have adjustble rear platform (think it's 5 adjustments via a circlip?) as well as damping adjustment? If so, might try the kit.

Something about 'raddo's for those of us over 30 i think; mine still has the grin factor after 2 years...

Violet coloured l plate i driving through Boothstown this morning 'bout 8:30 ish?

Daily driver - 140k miles, still drives fantastic and looks good; no matter how much you drive it, the car still has the "grin factor" when you press the loud pedal...

yeh, it's linged to the Nigerian Banking scam that was doing the rounds a few years ago - and it definitely isn't a hoax, brother-in-law fell for it but didn't sent the £3000 "extra" that the bankers draft was made out for. About 7 days after the bankers draft was paid in, his bank withdrew the £6000 back out of his account 'cos the draft had been confirmed as stolen of counterfeit.
