  1. Bought my 1.8 16v in Oct 03, was showing 137,000 then. I use it daily to get to and from work, 90% motorway miles and she is now tipping 146,000. But iI hope to sell her soon so I can get a G60 or Vr (I wish!!)

    Car is dying on me

Dizzy cap mate :D same happened to me three weeks ago, while scooting up the A3 to Hindhead, fortunely there was no one too close behind me. As I'd only had it serviced the week before I call my garage and got them to recover me, I was not going to trust it to get me home, any way, they looked at the HT leads, spark plugs and dizzy cap, (cause they put new leads and plugs in when they serviced it) and found the dizzy cap was split. I created saying they should have found that out during the service, especially as it looked like it had been cracked for a while. So, new dizzy and cars runnning fine! But the symptoms were exactly as you describe, check your dizzy!

    Help!!!!

Sorry it's been a while, family stuff! Right here we go again, got my hands on a multi meter and found no live feed with the ignition off. Only get a 12v line through the brown/red & brown when linked (black ISO positions 4 & 8 ) with the ignition turned on. The only block with coloured wire corresponding to corradokid's post is the one from the new h/u.The black ISO from the car is wired as follows; 1=blue/white 2= 3= 4=brown/red 5=black 6=grey/blue 7=red/white 8=brown The Panasonic h/u A B 1= 1= 2= 2=yellow with m/f connector & inline fuse 3=blue 3= 4=red* 4=black * with twin female connector for red+yellow depending on harness assembly. My thoughts are that I've somehow managed to blow a wire or connection somewhere and ended up with the same prob as Storm Monkey. N ow I'm no sparks or grease monkey, how and where do I get a new feed through?

    Help!!!!

I've just taken out the old Pioneer head that was in my C when I bought it, to replace with a nice modern Panasonic face off type head. Have the right molex adapters etc. but when I tried to turn the bloody thing on.....nothing, no power LED or anything, so refitted the Pioneer and exactly the same result. nothing. I've checked all the fuses and nothing is blown, so what could it be? Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially as my singing voice is not one that others should be subjected to!
  8. My 1.8 16valver runs quite happily on 95RON, I do give it a blast on Super everynow and then though, and yes, you can really notice the difference!
  9. Is there a thread for the above? I've searched and found nothing so far. Even the VW Uk site is of no use. This place http://www.automotivetouchup.com/ was the only place I could find the right name for the paint code on my C LA7U = Ascot Gray Metalic. And I thought/was told it was Storm Grey!!!!

    re-spray

AllCars in Pompey, next door to German Auto Engineering on Southampton Rd. Highly recommended by Cornelius (see here for GAE http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?p=&t=1877 ) Kevin there quoted me £120 to re-spray and blend my drivers door or around £600 for the whole car. Cars in for a service with GAE early next month and I'll get the door done and keep you guys posted.
  11. H100VW, Got my new loom fitted by Gavin a month ago, instant improvement! Can't rate them or Gavin highly enough. Should'nt say this but I'm sure he should charge more!
  12. Now we've all read about leaving your C in a car park and coming back to it only to find some pr**k has pranged it and buggered off without leaving a note etc. etc. well try this one. At lunch time to day I drove down to West Quay in Southampton, those in the Hants Dorset area will know it. I was just going to call into JJB's to get some new trainers. Well, I parked up in a bay, as you do, I noticed the old dear (60-70yrs) in her Renault Scenic in the bay next to me, but that was it. I walked from my C to the shop door (10 secs) up to the trainer display (another 10 secs) could not see what I wanted so asked an assistant, prompt reply "No , not in till next week" so I left and went back to my C. (another 25secs) The old dear was gone, but not with out leaving a bloody great dent in my drivers door and a streak of green paint down the side from the front of the door to the rear wheel arch. I just could not believe she had hit me without knowing it and just left. Not a single camera on the carpark so not a hope in hell of getting the reg plate. Oh and the carpark attendant had not had the chance to get the plate either. Now this was not some young piece of sh*t, driving his clapped out Astra, but a little old lady in a relatively new Renault people carrier! I'm really lost for words on this one.....any suggestions? Last bit..... I'm told the damage is not as bad as it looks and should just push out with out too much trouble or money and a T-cut should sort the paint but,. as i keep saying in these forums I'm not a mechanic etc. how do I get the door cards off?
  13. Now I'm not normally one for bragging about my achievements but after my "trials and tribulations" today I just had to SCREAM ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Firstly a little back ground, I am not a mechanic, engineer or even a "lets take the lid off just to have a look" kind of person. A car to me is a means of getting from A to B. I like driving but thats as far as my automotive experience goes. As I've stated in this forum before I have always loved the styling of the Corrado ever since they first rolled out but had never had the money or justification to buy one. 2 months ago I finally managed to buy my first C! A H reg 1.8 16v , Met Grey ( don't know the right term!) First thing I noticed was that the heater did'nt work, After reading loads of threads on here I was happy to assume it was just the "recall valve" and thanks to John Mitchell- 16VG60, giving my new steed the "once over" this was confirmed. Today, finally after all the c**p weather we've had over the last few weekends, I got out there with a couple of bits of copper pipe, by-passed the valve and have a heater that works WooHoo!, not content with that I proceded to find the live wire to give my new/second hand Pioneer head unit a constant feed as it kept loosing the the radio pre-sets. This I mananged with a funny looking box called a multi meter, borrowed from a friend. Success!!! Now I know some of you will be thinking " FFS get to the point" There isn't one except that I managed to fix/repair something on my car all on my lonesome without having to pay the earth to get some snotty nosed little twerp in my local garage sneer at me and tell me how simple a job it is. I'm just chuffed with myself that's all and wanted to tell more people than just my wife! :D :D :D :D :D
  14. Silver K plate 16v on M27 jct9 to 7 westbound 7.45am today, looked really nice, first silver one i've seen!
  15. Cheers for that dr_mat, think I'll let it go and leave any work to the pro's!!
  16. If you already have a Cd head unit try looking for a MStation, definetly the dogs for MP3 tracks and connects directly to your PC to add /remove tracks. Search for one on Ebay, I know there have been a few on there lately going very cheap as apposed to the normal near £400 mark.
  17. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... =9889&rd=1 Looks genuine.
  18. Quick question.... is £55.00 a fair price for a genuine VW workshop maual for the Corrado? I know the Bentley one is nearly twice that,
  19. It was good to see you guys yesterday, it's nice to able to put faces to names. Once again John, thanks for the advice and what I considered to be a glowing approval of my C!!
  20. Count me in, those in the know can look over my new steed, and tell me how much my wife is going to regret me getting a C!!!
  21. biggerbigben, where on earth do you find the time and money to undertake such a project? Don't get me wrong it looks fantastic and I'm sure the end result will be a show stopper, but how much has it cost you so far and how much do expect it to have cost you when you finish?
  22. MStation rules!!!!!!!!!!!! Find one on Ebay for £150.00 These systems are fantastic! Mates got one in his 328csi and it's brilliant, 16000 .... yes 16000 tracks all available at the touch of a button. drag and drop via USB on your PC or laptop. The best bolt on money can buy! Just need a half decent headunit to connect it too
  23. That's what I always liked about them, the looks's! I've never been mechanically minded so what's under the bonnet is not really that important to me, hence why I bought a 1.8 16v. It's great fun to drive and looks fantastic. Also driving on the M27 every morning and evening in rush hour it does not matter what badge is on the grill/boot, everything goes at 20mph anyway!
  24. hey purple-rado! can you post a procedure or guide for this please, I'm bl**dy freezing!
