  1. One last thing I forgot which may make people laugh (or not!). After I bought my current rado I was telling Jim at Star it was my 3rd, how I loved Corrados blah blah and he said "I don't understand why people get obsessed with these cars, it's just a lump of metal after all"  . I guess the warning signs were there!! I'll let everyone know how I get on at Herriot Hill. I'll also see if I can make the meet on Tue but think I'm climbing that night :)
  2. Cheers for the comments. I don't like bashing places either, especially as I've never really had any problems with them before. Granted the owner can be a bit obtuse but now he's turned out to be a total liar. Anyway, life's too short to spend time on w*nkers like that! As for alternative garages I'll probably pop into Heriot Hill on Saturday as it's just round the corner from me. It certainly beats the 30 mile trip to Glenrothes! I'll hopefully make one of the Edinburgh meets soon so maybe see you there. Might help convince you to go down the 24v route yellowdfp :D !!!
  3. Well after a bit of an arguement on the phone, Jim at Star Performance claims that it's a coincidence that the door is broken and if I want it fixed I'll have to pay for it - "It's an old car and these things happen". I actually can't believe it and he seemed to take offence that I'd even suggest they broke it. Told him what I thought the problem was (based on comments on this thread) and he said he has no idea what's wrong with it or how he would fix it, eh?? On top of that he was totally inconsistent with what he told me when I collected the car too. On Saturday he told me it stopped working on the Thursday and today he told me it was Monday. Fair enough, maybe he has a bad memory, lol, but why on earth did they try and break into the car by pulling up the lock if they KNEW (on Thu or Mon??) that the door didn't even work!?!!? That was the clincher for me and they've now lost a good customer (have spent over a grand there in the past 6 months and I dread to think how much I've spent overall on my 3 rados). He can also stick the RR day I was trying to organise! So can anyone recommend a good VW specialist in/near Edinburgh?
  4. Pickard1, Cheers for the info, good to know. Will phone them tomorrow and see what's what. I'm in no doubt that it's not a coincidence so if they don't take responsibility they'll have lost a good customer. Craigowl, I'll give them a chance to redeem themselves but if you look through my posts you'll find out who it is anyway as I always recommend them and in my 4 years of Corrado ownership I've never used another garage! I certainly got the impression that it was somehow my fault that they locked the keys in the car  Cheers, James
  5. The door doesn't open from the inside either so it's a right pain. Unfortunately it's a local garage which I use all the time and have always used for my rados. I dread to think how much money I've given them over the years which makes it even more annoying as the owner was so blas
  6. Hi, I'll try and keep this short but basically my rado was in the garage last week having the suspension fixed. Got a rather irrate phone call on Thursday afternoon to say that the car locked 'itself' with the keys in it. The garage weren't too happy as it happened on their wheel alignment ramp. Obviously not my fault (and it's not the first rado I've had with a full closure system). Anyway, they tried to break into both doors but with no luck so phoned asking me to take up the spare keys (2 hour round trip by train!?). I said I couldn't manage that but would post them special delivery which is what I did. Keys arrived first thing on Friday, problem solved, or so I thought! Went to pick up the car on Sat and they tell me that the drivers door doesn't open :( , it "just stopped working". They couldn't fix it because they couldn't get the door card off without opening the door!? It seems too much of a coincidence to me that they tried to break into the car (the window seal no longer fits properly either) and now the door doesn't open. I was in too much of a rush to argue the toss at the time as was heading off for the weekend but do you think I'm within my rights to demand that they fix the door or cover the cost of me getting fixed somewhere else? I'm pretty P'd off to say the least! Cheers, James
  7. Not the same. Here's a link to the colour list in the knowledge database - http://www.the-corrado.net/how-to/docs/VW%20Corrado%20Colours.doc
  8. ...so not necessarily out of the UK, eh? Eyes out in Wales, Scotland and Ireland then :) And Northern Ireland 8)
  9. Any other Scottish Rados (or VW's) interested in this? No dates yet as need to get enough cars first. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=63731&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15
  10. I think I've now found the source of the leak on my rado, yeah :) . I mistakenly blamed the windscreen as it's fairly new but after examining the entire seal and not finding any gaps, I figured it couldn't be that. Looking now it's so obvious (see spot the difference pics below). Anybody got a spare of the missing piece kicking about? Passenger Door 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfP1000300.JPG[/attachment:dpdm2dku] Drivers Door P1000302.JPG[/attachment:dpdm2dku] Using a bit of bluetack for now and could probably fabricate something and then seal it but being a perfectionist I'd rather use the actual part required. Any help appreciated. Will stick something in the Wanted section too. This may not help you mate so apologies if I've hi-jacked your post (Mods can delete if they want?)
  11. I win, I win :multi: Ham AND cheese for me
  12. My money is on neither Jay or Stan unless I've missed something? I'm sure whoever bought it is still grining like a cheshire cat :cat:
  13. Cheers for that mate. Maybe I should just remove them all
  14. Which bushes mate? The rear axle bushes are new, but the front wishbones Im not sure about. You could do them yourself anyway to be honest, stick in some poly's. Still think 16's would be better too, but I do like the 17's [/quote:doyyr69v] I actually meant the rear bumpstops but I reckon the front bushes need replacing too. Know a good place to order them from? And you could be right on the wheels as the ride is a little harsh. May think about changing to 16's  . If I do then I'll be after a set of RX II's I reckon but I know you won't agree with that choice!? Any changes to the cupra yet?
  15. Hi, I need to re-fix one of the front rubbing strips on my rado but not sure what to use. Have done a search and double-sided fixing tape seems to be the stuff to use (ensuring that both surfaces are dry and clean first). However, I went to Halfords today and the guy said the tape wasn't that good and I should use Tiger Seal? Unfortunately they don't sell it! I'm assuming it must be good if he's told me to use a product they don't stock i.e. he turned my custom away. Anybody else used Tiger Seal for the rubbing strips?
  16. Can't see it happening for a long time but never say never
  17. Is that because you're missing her?[/quote:2s3g3qqi] Yes mate, even more so now youve stuck new boots on, looks top!! See the bump strip is still missing. Also apologies about not sending the light loom mate, been a bit manic. I'll send it this weekend when I get back from Swansea. How is she running anyway? You missing 12v power???[/quote:2s3g3qqi] The trim is on my to-do list, just haven't had any spare time. She's going really well, could probably do with some new bushes but all good apart from that. Glad you like the wheels, I love them :D . And no I don't miss the 12v at all!!
  18. Me three! Jim and Brian at Star know their stuff. It's a bit out of the way but worth it IMO.
  19. Has the araldite done the trick ok? Have the same problem with mine and used some loctite on the end of the pin, not been out in her since though. Lucky the pin popped out when I was parking and not when I was flying round a corner
  20. Very nice Kerscher Futura's  Exactly right  et voila.... Wedge.... http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h281/ ... do0024.jpg http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h281/ ... Red tints it is then, just need to find some spare time.....
  21. Finally got around to changing the wheels and took some pics with my new camera :) ETKA Corrado.pdf24v1.JPG[/attachment:3szfykk0] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf24v2.JPG[/attachment:3szfykk0] Corrado92.pdf24v3.JPG[/attachment:3szfykk0] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf24v4.JPG[/attachment:3szfykk0] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf24v5.JPG[/attachment:3szfykk0] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf24v6.JPG[/attachment:3szfykk0] 24v7.JPG[/attachment:3szfykk0]
  22. Good to know mate cheers. I'll get it cleaned up this weekend if it stays dry
  23. Cheers for the help peeps :) Exactly right pb, the metal 'neck' where the petrol nozzle goes in i.e. what the petrol cap screws into. I think this may be removable on it's own? Cazza, Did you remove the neck before cleaning/painting?
  24. Hi, I've recently noticed that the fuel filler neck, if that's the right name for it, has started to rust quite badly. Will hopefully get a proper look this weekend but I was just wondering if anyone has had the same problem? All I could find using the search was for Rocco's. I'm assuming that the filler neck is separate from the fuel tank itself and so can be replaced easily enough. Either that or clean up he one that's on. Is there anything else I should think about like rust getting into the fuel tank, checking the fuel filter etc? Any help appreciated. Cheers, James
  25. Tis true. I had to change the cable on my last 2 rados.
