  1. Now sold, thanks everyone for there interest, thanks dan for picking up this morning.
  2. As stated in the add, I'm in York and could maybe deliver close by but would prefer pick up, thanks.
  3. Having recently sold my corrado, I have a spare 9a engine for sale. I'm told it has 92k on it but can't be certain. There is no inlet manifold or injection bits but there is an alternator. Oil was clean when I checked it but assume it needs a strip down and check over. I need the space so it has to go and am open to offers , sensible ones though. I haven't got time to package it up so would really prefer the buyer to pick up although I could deliver within a reasonable distance from york for the price of diesel. Thanks for looking.
  4. Have to agree with all the above, there is a standing joke in our paintshop about painters not reaching retirement and it's always the old car sprayers that have the problems. Wear an airfed with 2k materials, it may save your life, not today because you wont notice it, but when you get older you may suffer. For a cheap fix, cellulose is still available which at least is natural product (although still dangerous to breathe in) but the colourfastness and hardness will not be the same.
  5. This is exactly the same problem I have almost exactly. Whine when starting then lumpy running. Had a compression test done today which showed very low compression on 3 and 4. Mechanic says it's probably the headgasket. Anybody know the cost of having this done? Would the blown head gasket cause the engine to run rich as I also have emissions issues and maybe this could solve everything. Otherwise I was just about to sell up and give up.
  6. Saw a corrado with plastic headlamp protectors on at Elsecar the other week, are these readily available as it seems a good idea to protect your lights from stonechips. If anybody knows where I can get some and prices please let me know.
  7. Classic insurance is cheaper than you think. The expensive part is keeping a corrado on the road (for me anyway).I bought a 1994 2.0 16v with 143,000 miles on, had to buy a few bits in the first year but at the first mot it failed on the emissions and has been sat in the drive for a year since then. Don't know where to start or what to change so a bit stuck. Just be aware of what you're being sold and consider that there seems to be a lot more information and support for vr6s available. The 9a 2.0 16v engine appears to be a bit of an oddball to understand compared to other vw engines.
  8. Thanks, I'll take a proper look and add it to my list of things to change.
  9. Hi, just after some clarification. Where is the lambda probe on a 2.0 16v? How many wires does it have and exactly what does it connect to? Pics would help if anybody has them.
  10. Looks like jazz blue and the wheels could be ronals, both nice by themselves but don't really work in this instance.
  11. Thanks, will try this over christmas.
  12. Hi, once the weather improves I am going to start on an engine swap, 2.0 16v 9a for 2.0 16v 9a. Is there anything I should or shouldn't do in the process? Before I took the car off the road in june it got drenched in a torrential downpour and sounds like it's running on three cylinders, though has dried out all summer, no change, any ideas as I'd like to sort this before the swap? Thanks for any advice.
  13. Most people you talk to don't even know what a corrado is or can barely remember them. Me, God did I want one when I was 20. Now I have one which doesn't work.Should I spend £1500 on the engine to get it back on the road or just buy another one for the same price.2.0 16v's are disappearing fast so I'd rather keep it on the road. Passion not profit, that's what it's all about.
  14. Thanks guys, the readings are:-fast idle CO 0.81, HC 246 and lambda 1.05 second fast idle CO 0.84, HC 283 and lambda 1.05 natural idle test CO 0.85. I think I have a cracked exhaust manifold which may be causing the lambda to read wrong and overfuel but this is only a theory, tried to seal cracks for a temporary test but no difference.Still to try, leaky injectors, cat, air filter, all mentioned as possibles. At the end of the day it still smokes a bit although the mot bloke said this isn't causing the failure. How easy is the swap to an ABF engine? I could manage a nut and bolt swap over time. ---------- Post added at 4:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 4:32 PM ---------- Thanks guys, the readings are:-fast idle CO 0.81, HC 246 and lambda 1.05 second fast idle CO 0.84, HC 283 and lambda 1.05 natural idle test CO 0.85. 15. Hi, my '94 2.0 16v has just failed the m.o.t. on emissions. Taking into account it has done 143,000 miles do I look for a similar engine, get it rebuilt or replace it with a different engine? I am not bothered about how fast it goes but need reliability and cheap to fix (not true of the 16v). Can a 1.8 8v out of a scirroco be made to work? The problem is I have a max budget for engine work of £1000. I really want to keep driving the corrado because the rest of it isn't to bad but it might be to much for me. Any ideas for a cheap fix would be great. Car is now off road until I can sort it.
  16. Replacing a torn metering head sorted my problem, about £45 from vw.
  17. 2.0 16v | Dragon Green | YorkPrice:£750. Hi, I'm reluctantly selling my corrado as due to a change in circumstances I need an everyday car and the corrado needs some work done and will need to come off the road when the m.o.t. runs out on the 24th june. I've had a pre m.o.t. and it has failed on emissions, (local independent vw garage reckons it's pretty close to passing and it could be the hairline crack in the exhaust manifold thats throwing it out. Also a few brake pipes have corrosion and front antiroll bar bushes need changing. Sunroof and spoiler work fine, the car is used everyday, timing belt done, oil change done, bodywork in reasonable condition apart from car park dings, wheel arches good. Cloth interior in good condition. Someone who doesn't have to pay a mechanic could probably sort it reasonably cheaply. Dont know what it's worth so open to sensible offers. Ring me for full details:- Peter 07910100449.
  18. Hi, How easy, (or hard) is it to swap the 2.0 9A engine in my '94 corrado for a KR 1.8 from an '89 corrado? What problems could I expect? It's all about going for a lower mileage engine to save on paying for a rebuild. Thanks.
  19. I,m in York. That price is from my local garage who I use quite a lot, maybe they just don't want to do it.
  20. Hi, How much is reasonable to have a new clutch fitted to my 2.0 16V? Have been qouted £388. Is that about right? This is beginning to get expensive.
  21. Recently bought my first corrado, a 2.0 16V. Got it cheap so now I have to spend some cash on it. Garage tells me it's burning oil , as I expected it would at 146,000 miles. How big a rebuild am I looking at? Top end only or the full lot. Does anybody have experience of any firms that advertise recon engines. Are they worth getting for an easy fix? Thanks for any advice.
  22. If the charger fails does it damage anything else or do you just need to rebuild the charger? Can the car the car still be driven with a failed charger? Still don't know what model to buy, any recommendations.
