anyone know much about the APP 1.8t ? is it a good model for conversion?
-
body and paint isnt cheap anyway, seeing your mate is the best option here, he might be able to re use seals then again he might not, the big rubber seal he should be able to re use as for the others its all down to weather or not they have been glued in with a previous screen install.mine were and had to be cut through to get the screen out.

idd expect to pay more then £240..just go to a few local bodyshops and get some quotes, every place varys with the price of bodywork so dont go to just one unless your happy , it would be alot cheaper if that rust just stayed in side the window channel but it extends a few mm past the seal and onto visible paint and that needs to be refinished properly in order for invisble results, that alone would cost a couple of hudred,

very slight coolant leak is baffling me, please help
VW_OwneR_85 replied to VAG-hag's topic in Engine Bay
its probably not going to leak when its warm because of heat expansion so best look when its cold or on first start up, use paper towel in areas you think it could be leaking and check them, checked the core plugs? -
cool i'll get it measured and get some wrapp orderd! cheers
-
i also found it out the hardway :) , idd recomend this stuff, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2M-x-50M-Clear-Polythene-Dust-Sheet-Roll-Decorator-Plastic-Cover-Visqueen-/200831890451?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Paint_Varnish_MJ&hash=item2ec2837413

results look blady good! im guessing the 3m wrapp is prety thin and easily workable with heat then?, thanks for the offer anyway.
-
you have no sun roof!!! i like!!, it pays to mask off mouldings windows etc compund/polish gets everywhere and can be an a55 to get rid of, otherwise good job.
-
this should be big enough, i'll have to measure to double check though http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3M-DI-NOC-300MM-X-750MM-AIR-FREE-CARBON-FIBER-Black-Wrap-Vinyl-Vehicle-Wrap-/200838960701?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ec2ef563d

just looking at my plate plinth , looks a tad out dated, dont fancy spraying it , im not normaly one for carbon wrapping but i actualy think it might look alwight in this case, anyone done it useing the 3m carbon wrap?
-
yea i had to put the work in to get it useable as it hadnt been used in over 15years! make benches install lights and change the layout and get alot of stuff dumped and clean up 15years of dust and spiders, but its well worth it!!, well with your rent its only costing you more each day, any reason you cant use it as a daily as it is?

"i bought it for 900 and spent another 600 on the charger but not sure what i could sell it for tbh" yea i know what you mean , just sold my mk2 golf , was hard to put a price on it, i wanted it gone and a quick sale so i sold it for a little below what it owd me, money lost but it aint costing me anything anymore and i dont have to pay the extra insurance premium this week so its money saved lol , but i dont think your to far into it, unless theres other things aswell? when you get into respray teritory then thats the point of no return and money loss, haven spent money on the charger that is deffinalty a selling feature, idd deffo look into renting somewhere else though, i got realy lucky with my shed £10 a week! can fit 2 cars there nicely and a solid concrete floor!! its not what you know but who you know :)
-
yea rust is allways worse then it is, that seal doesnt actualy keep the water and wind out though, you can pull that seal out so it looks like this as long as you dont stretch the seal it should push back in with no problems, the screen is wind and water tight by thick black adhesive, so its more then bad if its leaking
-
imho dont bother with a respray, far to many people on these car forums seem obsessed with perfect paint for shows and alot of vws get broken for spares because the paint apparently isnt good enough , just get the car mecanicaly good and enjoy it, as much as i like perfect paint i wouldnt pay for it, aslong as it drives as it should then that realy is the main thing, use it and enjoy it while you can

tyres i got 45/195 for the front {7 3/4" j} and for the rear 45/205 {8 3/4" j} i would of gone and had them banded to 9" but the offset works out at ET 10 so they now work out at ET17 which should be perfection, same with the fronts they should now be et25/28 they were done here, realy good prices and turn around http://www.bandedsteelwheels.co.uk/# had my tyres fitted over the weekend , the tyre guy said he had done a good job as they balanced up fine,iv only fitted them to one side as im not pulling the car out for atleast another couple of weeks, need to sort out center caps of some sort, lol i got an old circular saw blade , with abit of welding i could make some evil looking center caps, duno though as i need another three blades! any ideas? , anyway im very very pleased with the offsets of these wheels! they are perfect!!
-
same here!!! iv been wanting these since the first page of this thread!!! , just cleaning them up and rattle can spraying them satin black, already finished one and its looking rather nice, did you have any problems getting tyres fitted? i cant help but think the tyre place over here will think im mad when i ask them to fit my tyres! , also you have any problems with getting them balanced?
-
16's not quite 8j for the front and not quite 9j for the rears to meet the offsets i required, realy cant wait to get my tyres fitted :)

MK1 VR6 vs MK2 VR6 vs Corrado VR6+nurburgring
VW_OwneR_85 replied to maff's topic in General Car Chat
think if all the drivers gave it 100% i recon the corrado would come off top, dont think idd ever want to race around that , not in my own car anyway ;) wish you the best of luck -
its not that hard to replace them, but the problem is getting the room to do so, i helped my friend do his on his mk2 golf, only way to do it was to pull the engine out, realy cant comment about the 9a on a corrado but im going to assume it will be the same, was easy once we pulled the motor out , just hit them with a punch and hammer and then pull them out , then clean the surfaces up, i then used a sealant on the surfaces and then knocked in the new plugs with a suitable sized socket,

headliner wet?
-
yea unless you got all the vr6 running gear all spare anyway , i would also say its not worth it , simply because of the price of vr6's right now you can get tidey ones for like £1500! , by the time you brought a vr engine+box +wireing +subframe +mounts and all the little bits inbetween you could have sold the 8v and put that money on top of the sale and easily of brought a vr6 with no extra hassle..
-
im no pro but iv done metal polishing before , if the surface is already smooth dont go down to 80 , your only creating more work for yourself, only use the coarser grits to remove imperfections, and as above you need to work up the fine/polishing grits ,1000, 1500 , 2000 ect wet .
