  1. Update --- closing on 2000 miles now at 3.5k rpm limit fustrating that I cant open it up yet with another 4000rpm left but not long now

Will be dyno'd on 16th so far so good runs alot smoother but makes an evil sound no charger whine at all, get asked what turbo im running LOL

Came back from Edition38 today was a good show thought I would add some pics of the car for a change - cleaned it properly for first time in 2 years...

  2. Although mine is rotrexed I'm seeing a similar sort of thing, in hot weather cruising at 80 my oil sits at about 100degC, but when an R32 went past it rocketed to about 110degC within about a minute, never used to get that hot that quickley. Although cruising at 60-70 and will drop to about 94-96 degC which it used to be able to manage at 80 easily.

Anyone recon its because the charger is permanently generating boost and constantly heating intake air although the boost is not being used just being recirculated????

On a separate note, when the engine is warming up my water seems to lead the way by 15-20degC (all the way up to 100degC) and I can't remember if this was how it was before my rebuild or could my stat be sticking a bit, this is more noticable in traffic but the water temp reading is affected quite a bit when your on the move?????

that is about right im running my rebuilt engine and done around 800 miles over past 10 days it ran hot at first around 110deg but the more ive driven it and after a oil/filter change after 500 its now running around 94-98 at 70mph so seems right, water temps fall near 70 on runs and will build up near 100 when still but i have 2 spal fans keep cool it pretty well

  3. Booby, good to meet you, thanks for teh bits and bobs and glad it passed the MOT. A beast - i didnt know what i was looking at under the bonnet. Get it on a rolling road now and see what it puts out.

no problem hasan good luck with the conversion

will get it on rr once its run in although i reckon it will be similar power now unless i fit a 70mm pully

  4. Bobby....Make sure you come see me this weekend, I need to see this car in the flesh. Hats of to you bro, you've done a splended job, well done.

Alrite Nige - long time - yeah will try to mate just had it MOT'd today and passed no problem so can start putting on the miles and get it run in so coming to yours will help

    Will call you later today

  5. thats an awesome setup you have there, why bother with 24 valves when you can get that sort of results with the original 12 eh?

question: and i suppose this goes for all supercharged VRs - do you worry about water ingress into your engine with the air filter set so low in the wheel arch? with the weather we are having lately there are some big puddles about that could possibly be disasterous? I have a VF charger setup for mine, and will end up with the filter in the same position, but i am not sure i am entirely happy about that!

    just a thought.

yeah thats right the 24v flows better and has better management but getting one fitted and fully running is not that straightforward plus it will still cost just as much to run when it comes to parts & fuel

love the sound of mine not whiney like vortechs but you know it has some power on throttle just cant break 4k yet

not had much problem with rain, its not a daily like some of the guys on here so im lucky - but i know what you mean - I will just use mine on dry days if i can

  6. Hi bobby, thanks for the rear beam, would have loved to have stayed a bit longer and had a good chat and look over your car but time was tight still had stuff to load up for mallory tomorrow. Have just read over your thread and i'm even more impressed now with the true extent of the work gone into your car, would def like to have a proper look over it another day and hear the beast. take it easy

    cheers

    mart

no problem mart thanks for picking up the axle

its on the road now so just got to rack up the miles

  7. bvh is schimmel built, quality is superb

    I can second that

    Bugger!

    I'll bet they're £2k+ now. :(

when i got mine rate was $1.9 to the £1 picked up mine for £965 delivered but i dont think they'll be above £2k though

    SPEC:

    1mm oversize Ferea Inconel valves

Corrosion pits filled with JB weld then a full skim

    3 angle valve cuts

    Valve stem diameter reduced

    Titanium spring caps and retainers

    Heavy duty 7500rpm springs

    Port matched intakes

    Uprated exhaust studs

  8. 430 horses running on 5.5 cylinders

430 horses running on an engine with 125k on it

430 horses running standard internals

    Fair play that's a bit of a beast! 8)

You planning to increase the power, now you have a spangly new engine with forged internals??

yeah it was shocking - good news your car managed 430hp but now the bad news is you now have piston wear

but thats how it goes at that sort of power it will find the weakest point

right now im just happy its running and i can drive it, will see how it runs and change it later its easy to swap

  9. Update…

Cars been running on 5 and a bit cylinders despite pulling 430hp on the rollers

So after 14 years and 125k so it was time to get the bottom end rebuilt.

    2009-001-Cylinder-Block-Piston-Wear.jpg

Pulled out the bottom end – painted it up then got it rebored to 2897cc.

Went for Wossner Forged Pistons with H-Beam Con Rods - Schimmel Big Valve Head on top

    2009-004-Engine-Rebore.jpg

At the same time added Cromoly 9lb Flywheel and Helix Clutch as the standard ones were pretty worn from the power.

Engine built backup with BVH, 263 Cams and other bits while im at it...

    2009-031-Bottom-End.jpg

Spent the last week building it back up and now its up and running – did have a few issues - gear linkage and power steering – but nothing major

Also sorted a few other bits like new Water Pump & Oil Pump plus CrazyDaves Spal Brackets and new Radiator.

Running 14s on the PLX with no engine faults and idle is spot on

    2010-100-Engine-Finished.jpg

Not too concerned with the power right now but its good to know engine can cope with over 400 horses so just got to run it in over the next few weeks then may go for a 70mm pulley.

  10. This is my Shortrunner & Chargecooler setup

    234EngineFinished.jpg

Yeah it looks good but i know it does the job as the Rotrex was supplied with a 80mm pulley and I was told this should see around 350-360hp

Always makes 18psi (430hp/345torq) and that was after an hour running on the rollers and dying pistons - not much boost loss there

Be interesting to see what I could get with a 70mm pulley :D

  11. Good to meet up today for the bits... I'll ping you when they get installed and you can claim yet another grey to black vonversion...

Loving your car on here... Looks really sweet! As you said today, the ddis are nice but REALLY like the blue LCDs...So, anyguid/info on exactly how I'd go about completing the lcd conversion to black? Would look good with my blue dash LEDs..

    Darryn

Thanks Darren, you going to reverse the lcd's not tried myself that but will look good in blue

To be honest I like the look you got more than reversed LCDs... How did you do it though?

Just put a blue lit frosted bulb in the back of the clocks, cant remember where i got them will see if i can then, they twist in same as the oe green ones

  13. can you get replacement panels for the corrado i need two new rear arches and two sills can you get these as a pattern part anywhere?

I have a corrado shell which has good rear arches/rear quarter panels and also good sills - let me know if you need them

  14. I just find it easier to read the analogue type gauge, ie the needle with fixed numbers, im just not a huge fan of digital numbers. I had that for my boost reading on the old boost controller, i could understand it and all but it did my head in, now i can just look without thinking about it, suppose its just what you get used to.

Also is it not annoying when it says lean or rich instead of just saying what the reading is, as you know if it said lean on boost then worry but normal driving it will be going between those 2 all the time, is it your user preference as to when it alerts to those conditions. If so i would just set them so it doesnt say them at all and always says the actual reading. If it was mine of course. :D

Yeh agree its how easily you can capture the number the PLX is accurate and that all that matters, you don’t get much time to look away when boosting plus its not like I drive it everyday then maybe I would get fed up but I’d rather know what’s going on even if it was all okay, things can change at anytime

  15. Love the work! I am wanting to Rotrex my car at some point, looks like a quality kit :)

    Vick :)

Yeah its a good kit something a bit different and you can get the power down

Wow. Really, really awesome, Bobby. Look forward to seeing this again now that it's had a bit more fettling :)

Cheers Jim should have it back soon

Great car and all but that A/F gauge would do my box in flashing away with the numbers.

Yeah its it a bit mad but important at this sort of power glance over and see how its running at idle & road testing etc - just sitting on the dash so can relocate it anytime once everythings sorted

  16. Saw it on the rollers yesterday whilst Doctor Vince was doing his mapping magic.

It's coming along nicely and is now the most powerful car on the forum I think

Yeah it made over 400 before this, but not too bothered about the peak power just happy its turned out well, learnt alot good experience

Should flow alot better now im going there 2moro to see how its done
