I think I would struggle having a sports car that didn't sound the part so with its 4 pot engine the i8 would be out. I quite like the f10 m5 or m6 gran coupe

Hasan I can help you set it up if you want, or give me a call and I'll talk you through it

Nice work upgrading the servo, I drove mine today after ages (2-3years) and the brakes feel so different compared to modern cars -
thats a lovely looking install!

im surprised its not selling, do you think its down to your location?

Except in my case i had water in my oil not the other way round. Anyhow i got the replacement engine in and finally running yesterday evening, it was a bit tappety at first but has quietened down nicely. I'm in the process of repolishing my wheels so the car is still on axle stands. I should be able to take it for a drive on saturday. I plan to change the heater matrix on the weekend then get it in for an mot some time next week

I havent used it myself, but read about this guy using it for his door seals on an e46 m3 http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1375505&postcount=245 I have also read about people using it on plastic trims such as here http://www.pistonheads.com/GASSING/topic.asp?h=0&f=136&t=1499652&mid=0&nmt=Interior+trim+rattles+how+do+I+get+rid%3F

nice work, with the MOT passed will you be driving this more often?
-
no probs, i don't have a fixed schedule of when i work on the car. I get an hour or so on the cae here and there. Im sure you know how it is :)

Krytox seems to come up a lot on other forums where people are curing squeaks and rattles.

i underestimated how long it would take to clean up the replacement engine and transfer all the bits from my old engine such as the water pump, cams, chain, clutch. Then there was the timing and sealing the timing chain covers. Then i had a clean of the engine bay. Almost there, I should be able to fire the car up in the next few evenings weather permitting.

no idea on repair. I had a dish repaired from http://www.the-polisher.com/ a few years ago. you could just buy these, the seller says 1" but they look like 0.5" like stock rs301's http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BBS-RS-17-2-X-1-0-Pair-of-Dishes-Outrer-Lips-34-Bolts-Genuine-RS299-/271844717589?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4b353415

How to fit / wire / install obd2
zak replied to C488ADO's topic in [Archive] Wiki Submissions & Collaboration
If I was keeping my car I'd seriously be tempted to convert to obd2 -
I picked up the engine, I had forgotten how heavy they are and manoeuvring without an engine crane was a little tricky. I had also forgotten how much effort, degreaser and old rags are needed to clean up the engine. I'm going to swap most bits from my old engine as they are so much cleaner.

Nothing like a clean fresh engine

the standard size would be 0.5" and they werent to hard to come across from what i last remember. You can also buy new replacments although i'm not sure what the quality is like such as here http://www.ebay.de/itm/Felgenhalfte-Felgenbett-0-5-x-17-NEGATIVBETT-Alu-pol-BBS-RS-NEU-/251813319725?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item3aa13e542d

the wheels have obviously widened, if they were the original size assuming rs301 they would be 7.5x17 et33. This size is tried and tested on the vr6. If your shell is good i would not touch the arches and would suggest narrower dishes with 205/40/17 tyres.

What's the wheel offset and size?
-
thanks, i'll give that a try

Where is the best place to order genuine parts, i need small things like seals, nuts and bolts etc. Also can they be delivered? With BMW there is a helpful dealership that are on the forums and let you order parts over the phone and deliver to your house which is really useful. Last time i ordered from VW I had to go in to place the order/make payment then go go back to collect the parts a few days later

I'll take a pic tomorrow eve but I don't think I'm going to spend the time investigating it. The bores looked fine and couldn't see anything abnormal withe the oil and water galleries
