Yeah the are such a well built car originally and handle so well, a modern engine is brilliant. A early 2.0l tfsi would be my ultimate as they are awesome engines Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Hi guys, for any of you that are thinking of converting your car either engine swaps or just a gearbox upgrade/swap after a failure, you may find this information useful. Its direct from my volkswagen etka parts system so is accurate information. I will display different categories for platfrom of cars to hopefully make it easy to understand. Please remember these are the final drive ratios so will affect the gearing in as much as what Rpm you will be doing at say 70mph. Handy for working out the cruising speeds you desire. The gear ratios are different and the codes will differ for longer 1st, short 2nd etc. This all gets very complex but to get a idea of what you are looking for this should help. Lower ratios are better for a low engine Rpm at cruising speeds Starting with mk3 golf/vento 02A 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION GEAR RATIO N.O. Of TEETH CODES 3.15/1 60/19 CTN, ASD, CYP 3.38/1 61/18 CCM, CHN 3.64/1 62/17 CDM 3.68/1 70/19 CDA, DPA MK4 PLATFORM 02J 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION Golf bora leon octavia A3 GEAR RATIO N.O. Of TEETH CODES 3.38/1 61/18 DEA, DQY, EBF, EGS, EBJ, EGR, EUH, EWX, EHC, EWW, DZC, JDH JEJ, JDM 3.64/1 62/17 EHA, EWU, EXE, EXD 3.68/1 70/19 EVS, EGY, FBX, EBN, ENJ, JEG, JDP, 3.94/1 71/18 EBA, DZL, EGC, EMR, EGU, EBS, EHB, JDW 4.24/1 72/17 DYN, CZM, EBD, EGV, EGT, FBV, EWG, EBM, EGW, EVQ So far I have done this. I will add the 02M 6 speed box codes when I can and also all the rest of the 02A numbers for the corrado platfrom as that will help sourcing suitable standard replacements. Thanks P.s, this may not display as logically as I had hoped if you view in Tapatalk Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Yeah even if you don't have a ramp, they are really handy for being able to scoot about underneath. Also when I chuck them outside I can wash the underside of vehicles easily! Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Cheers, boxes are a temporary solution for my scissor lift. Its supposed to be buried in the ground 300mm but the building I'm currently in isn't for long term so by the end of this year I will hopefully have the new unit built and ramp installed properly lol Thanks, I'm over in old Buckenham, norfolk. Its only very small at the moment, just building up my equipment and diagnostics with what I earn from it, and I don't advertise, I just have word of mouth customer Base as such. But I'm hoping one day in the future it will become a more full time thing. 👍 Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Ah OK no worries, bit of a trek, im Norfolk lol Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Hi guys, my name is Spencer, been browsing this forum for a while now in the backround but thought I'd finally say hello and show my rado. I'm a ex main dealer tech from audi, and since leaving them a few years back I now work with my dad part time doing audio/visual installations, and also sub contracting out to a few engineering companies who deal with all sorts from classic car resto's to prototype electric car builds. As well as all that I also run my own vw/audi group specialist garage in the evenings and weekends which keeps me pretty busy! On to my rado, I've got a 94 tornado red, originally a 2.0 8v. Picked it up from a good friend on my local club last March time. It had been barn stored for a while and was in pretty good nick. The main thing for me was no rust and its a really solid example. I've since converted it to a 20vt and hoping to do plenty more (time permitting) this year including fresh paint, new wheels and more power. Anyway, I'll let the pics say the rest. Thats how it's looked when I picked it up.. Went a little different to the norm and I'm running a charge cooler rather than intercooler Excuse the messy bay, it's all a bit unfinished as I still have further plans, I just wanted to drive it! Hope you all like it! Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

It was my daily through the summer, and we be again this year, onky hopefully with new paint, new wheels and a little more power 👍 Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

I've just revised the forums login and registration page so hopefully now you can sign up and view. For some reason someone had disabled it. Luckily I'm admin 👍 I think the standard 8v mount is the same as the mk2 golf 1.6/1.8 and and mk3 engines, can't remember if the 16v ones are any different, I think it was suggested a 16v mount allow it to sit a little lower which helps if you have a early style bonnet, but it's no issues with a standard mount on mine Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Hopefully you can view that without having to sign up 👍 Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Yeah tbh even with only 200 bhp it drives great, personally I don't think there is a better suited engine to this chassis that a 1.8t (maybe a early 2.0tfsi but they are £££'s) They are lightweight and despite people saying the same power will give you the same fuel economy.. It won't. A car weighing 1100kg with 200bhp on slightly more modern management, and a turbo, will return better than a car weighing 1300kg with the same power and a n/a engine. Why do you think the likes of audi/merc and going with smaller displacement charged engines.. They are just more efficient. OK they will guzzle like any other when driven hard but even if you drive you car hard 50% of the time, the other 50% will be better on fuel than a larger vr6 for instance. My car was a standard 2.0 8v before. And a 94 year so quite late. Rear engine mount was a standard 8v one I think.. I will try find a link to my build thread on my other club. Oh and I used the standard 8v engine mount I had on the engine, front crossmember mount is standard but had alot of movement so need to upgrade to a solid of vibra mount so.it had less rocking, and the gearbox mount is standard too off the original corrado 02a gearbox. That's the beauty of running a 5 speed it all just bolts up. Driveshafts etc. Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

The conversion I did was about as cheap.as it gets for a 1.8t. I had alot of parts in stock from cars I've broken over the years so just decided to out them all to use in the rado. But essentially I got a 1.8t agu auto a3 for £70, had a gearbox from a bora that I broke which was a 90hp agr engine code, just happened to have the egr code gearbox I wanted. I use the original loom the the agu as it's very basic, and where the standard agu loom clips into the mk4 cars, I removed the plugs and fitted Superseal connector z to join them neatly into my old corrado loom. The 2 wiring looms match up really nicely. Power wise I'm running about 200 bit I onky have the standard turbo. The map is set for a k03s turbo which should give 220-230 but I just haven't got round to this yet. Plus I've now picked up a Eaton supercharger in the hope.to twin charge it lol The box is a 5 speed, don't bother with a 6 speeds they are no better for ratios in the final gears, they will just have really short ratios and you will forever be changing gear. Even in there standard cars like leon cupras and golfs, some people change back to 5 speeds when they go for larger power just so they can actually spend some time in 1st nd 2nd lol Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

I am, but running a agu engine. The box I'm running is a EGR code from a low spec tdi golf/bora. From a non pd engine iirc. Gives good ratios plus you then run the mk4 linkage and shifter which is miles better that the original or a mk3 setup. Gives a much more precise a new tight feeling to the gear changes. Well worth the little bit of work fitting the selector and modding the mounts 👍 Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Ah OK, sounds a pretty traumatic experience of owning the car in all honesty. I'm happy to give you any of the technical repair manuals if you require them. The last rebuild I did for one of those engines for a fully rebuilt head (16 bent valves) full chain kit, head gasket etc etc was just under 1700 quid. Should give you an idea of what you will get quoted to make sure nobody is ripping you off further. Hope you get it resolved or some money back atleast! Also always happy to discuss on the phone. Pm me if you ever need my number. 👍 Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

The paint on timing wheels may be just a reference mark to get the chain back on in the same position as it was remove. This helps with check the position as if you imagine putting multiple marks on the chain and the sprockets, you can be assured that if all the marks line back up, ASWELL as the oem markers which will be on the top cams and bottom pulley etc. It is possible to do all the work without specialist tools, except removing the bearing saddle behind the upper timing cover. There is a special tool to remove the reverse thread bolt which is also part of the variable cam timing. Once that's off the rest is done without locking tools as you are supposed to set the tdc with a dti gauge through the cylinder 1 spark plug hole. Again that is the proper way of doing it but it can be done without. The top cams again are free ish to move to adjust getting them lined back up with the marks. Just changing the main tensioner (the revised recalled one) should only need the lower cover removing. If you can hold the chain under suitable tension which isn't much, your able to replace the tensioner. You may find the upper timing case cover has been removed for other issues like the failed bearing saddle. Also a known issue with these engines. Do you know which tensioner version was installed in the engine when it failed and slipped the chain? I believe it 2012 they revised the tensioner or made it a recall to replace. The early style was terrible, the later still doesn't fill me with confidence but it is better. Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
