  1. Registered. Never enough Vee Dub forums I say.......
  2. I noticed a drop in fuel economy after I fitted the 17s....damn those 17s. Could be worse...my mate has got a '90 Golf GTi 8v that runs fine, doesn't smell strongly of petrol at all and does 12mpg on a slow run or 7mpg around town! It was interesting to read the posts about Cavaliers earlier. I've always found Vauxhalls to be very frugal. Even my Astra GTE 16v used to return 40mpg average when driven in town and on crappy B-roads.....and it went like f*** too. Shame Vauxhall could only get the engine right. I guess the thorn in the Corrado's side is it's weight ultimately. All that dodgy Karmann trim must be very heavy! :?
  3. Steven - If you could find some contact info for this place I'd be interested in giving them a shout. I don't know of any breakers in the Norwich area that get new-ish Vee Dubs/Seats/etc. and Essex is only down the road. [edit] My bad...two minutes and the Applegate directory and I've got the info I was asking for. I assume this is the correct place: http://www.nsec.co.uk/ [/edit] If anyone knows of decent breakers in the Norwich area I'd also be glad to hear about them! I usually hang out at Volk-a-part and Hainford Hall, but neither really has any newish VAG stuff.
  4. Much respect. Looking forward to seeing them fitted. Bargain if you ask me!
  5. I see a red G60 parked on the North Walsham Road in Norwich quite often....anybody here???
  6. What do I listen to? Squeaky brakes, miscellaneous rattles and the dull *thud* of things falling off mainly. :D
  7. On a related note there's a silver Corrado on the Autotrader site at the moment advertised as a "Oling Limited Edition" whatever that means. It's got a non-standard grille and apart from that it looks fairly normal. I assumed it was just dealer bulls**t. There's also a red Corrado advertised as a "Karmann limited edition"....hang on...I've got one of those. I feel so special! Anybody else?
  8. 70 galloping ponies, eh? I believe my trusty Nova, in it's day, could only manage 54....*sigh*. Interestingly, the Nova was eight years old when I got it...and my current car is 14 years old. Ain't progress great?! Oops., we seem to be taking this thread in the wrong direction. My bad.
  9. Wassamarra? Had to start somewhere! I hear 17 year olds moaning about the price of insurance now, but to be honest I don't remember it being that cheap 12 years ago either!

    CV boot split

£112 to change a split CV gaiter....do people really pay that sort of money for basic repairs? I must be very skint 'cos that sounds like a hell of a lot.
  12. So this is me (far right) and my friend Matt (far left) meeting the legendary....in some places no doubt....Luther Wright and stunning Miranda Mulholland from the band 'Luther Wright and the Wrongs'. This pic was taken in Logans Bar, Victoria, Canada a couple of months ago following a particularly interesting gig containing, most notably, several covers of Pink Floyd classics in a bluegrass/country style. I'm afraid the straw headgear was the closest I could get to a cowboy hat at the time. Good times.....yeeeeeee haaaaaaa

    CV boot split

Hmmm, I'm interested in the mention of a tool to remove the CV joint - wasn't aware there was such a thing. I was always under the impression that the tried and tested method of VW CV joint removal was to lay under the car and batter it repeatedly until it came free from the driveshaft. This, as I'm sure many of you know, can lead to the driveshaft coming out of the inner CV joint instead, hence I'd love to find an easier way! Enlighten me pleeeeeassseeeee......
  14. Aren't the DKD146s and DKE108s made by MB Quart rather than MD Quart? :)
  15. How about disconnecting the power to the spoiler at the connector block behind the tailgate trim panel? At least then you'd isolate the problem to a particular circuit, i.e. spoiler or fuel pump. Are you sure the spoiler is actually causing the problem?
  16. Still don't know who that is on the left......ooohhhh the torment
  17. Mine was ok with the standard wheels, and above 4000rpm I'd even describe it as "lively." In particular I like the longer gearing than the 8v GTi making overtaking way easier. However since fitting the 17s I've found the performance to be dismal - the car won't accelerate in fourth and fifth gears unless the revs are way up there. Still love it though.
  18. Saw one of those GTs at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last weekend. Good day out but the car park looked like the Porsche 911 and Subaru Impreza owners club meetings. Saw more Lamborghini Diablos parked there than I did Corrados too. We are soooooo exclusive. :-P
  19. LOL...event announcements....my bad! Can't say I've noticed a difference in handling as it was pretty damn tasty to start with. I do, however, notice the large step between 2nd and 3rd gear ratios now where I didn't really before. In order to have any chance of falling into the power in 3rd, I have to thrash the nutz off the poor car in 2nd....and after the relaxed character of my previous cars (all Mk.2 Golf GTi) I hate doing that. Despite the fact that the car looks soooo much better, I think the 17s may have to go. :(
  20. Any other 1.8 16v owners out there notice that the already slight performance of their Corrado is reduced by fitting 17's (205/40-17)? I was expecting a difference in acceleration due to the increase in rolling radius and subsequent raise in gearing, but I never imagined it would make the car such hard work to drive. Just me or what?!
  21. That toffee G60 is one sick colour....and I'm not talking "sick" meaning a good thing. Each to their own I suppose....and the end result is quite impressive.
  22. Had a bit of a ding dong with a mint looking silver J reg Corrado (possibly 16v 'cos it wasn't getting away from my bag of piss 'valver) down the A47 towards Kings Lynn Hardwick roundabout - 1pm ish, Friday June 18th. Sweet looking car...made my dodgy Corrado look like a right scrapper....oh hang on, it IS a right scrapper!
  23. Been out of the counrty and generally distracted for a while, but back now and project shit-box is GO GO GO. Really appreciate your advice biggerbigben. I see a skip full of previously-working Corrado in the near future..... Just one more thing. Would you (or anyone else) have any opinions about the use of the standard ECU over the purchase of a standalone engine management system...apart from cost? I quite fancy some tasty HKS electronics to play with!
  24. Interesting. My 1.8 16v warms up quickly, then never gets past 90 - 95 degrees (water temp) in the city. I'd be proper concerned if it got to 110 dgrees myself, and the fact that yours drops to 80 whilst moving would have to point at the electric cooling fan as the problem. Which city are we talking about here? If you're in the middle of Saudi Arabia then it's understandable!
