  1. You're making me nervous now man  at Snetterton a couple of weeks back I was hitting 132-136deg oil temps....not quite your 146, but still got me worried. Maybe I should invest in a Mocal as well. Money money money. Kev - Joe's car was so loud I'm surprised he can hear anything at all anymore. mine doesn't sound harsh above 5000rpm though...
  2. Do they do baffled sumps in cast iron as well as alloy? Don't like the idea of a crackable alloy sump. Was your bottom end failure just down to oil starvation from cornering? The oil pump wasn't knackered? :?
  3. Yeah I did buy and Astra for the track, but whilst it's engine+box is in sound order, the rest of the car is a rusty heap o' shite. Vauxhalls. Have a new plan now to put the engine + box into another car, but that's gonna take a while. I'll look into uprating the ARBs cheers, only thing is I still want to use the car on the road, so I don't want to make it too track focused. I figured by going the tyre route I can easily swap between track/road setup. Tis a shame they don't do the tyres in 205/50, after going in my mates 306 fitted with Yoko A048Rs I realised just how much difference they make! He was carrying about 15mph more corner speed through every fast corner with them on! 8) Shame they're so expensive :(
  4. So no one has experience of running 205/55 tyres? Just looking for an explanation on the difference in feel it will give really....
  5. Having double checked unfortunately the only 15" sizes available for the tyre I'm looking at (Maxsport RB5 dry) are 205/55 or 185/55. 185 sounds too narrow. I've done quite a few trackdays in the VR now so I feel quite confident finding it's limits, just don't want to have the opposite affect to what I'm looking for by buying trackday tyres and actually ending up slower becuase of squishier sidewalls. I'm currently running Bridgestone RE720s in 205/55/15. These are the tyres, they're only £42/each in 205/55, but not available in 205/50.... I did want Yokohama A048Rs in 205/50, but at over £450/set I can't justify the cost. :(
  6. 10.25mm, the profile is a percentage of the width. ;) I'm not really worried about ride quality as they will be for track use only...just wondered if it would have a noticeable affect on the handling of the car.
  7. My VR is running on standard wheels with standard size tyres currently, 205/50/R15s. I've got a spare set of speedlines I'm planning on using as track wheels, and, after seeing my mates results with them, want to get a set of cut slicks fitted....thing is they seem to be much cheaper in 205/55/R15. Would using this size noticably affect the handling of my VR? :?
  8. You mean T1-S? If you like them try the new version, the T1-R, supposed to be as good in every way but wear more slowly. ;)
  9. Second what Kev said, in 205/50/15 fitment the RE720s are great, go with them mate. ;)
  10. I get my MOT fee and a 'good will' gesture. The bloke on the phone couldn't say for sure what I'd get though. I'll be going in for a chat with the manager when I get the report back from VOSA. ;)
  11. Just got back from Snetterton. I fappin love my Corrado, how many cars can you drive for 2.5 hours on the motorway, then hoon it around a track all day, and then drive home again in quiet comfort? Awesome.....and she didn't blow up! 8) (6 trackdays 134k and counting) Although I did have to go to Halfrauds to buy some more pads, only ones they had cost £20, comedy brake fade after 1/2 a lap, still...what better way to bed them in than on the track? Good job the car was inpected by VOSA yesterday I think..
  12. I WIN. The tester agreed that it was an "advisory" item and should not have failed. Getting my MOT fee back from VW as soon as they have the report. :D
  13. Just dropped the car off at the VOSA centre for inspection....should know the outcome by early afternoon. :?
  14. OK fair enough was just a suggestion. I program for a living so I find the updates only take me a few mins on my board, but I understand not everyone wants to apply updates manually. Sorry for the off-topic. jonocos, those are some awesome looking cars. 8)
  15. Andi - You should apply the DHTML mod, it dynamically re-sizes remote linked images so you don't get the page messing up. I can provide you with the code changes if you like. ;) But custom hacking of the forum makes it a pain in the backside when they release patches. Not really, you just apply the code changes rather than replacing the old files with new ones. Takes minutes. Anyway isn't this forum already heavily modded? Is judging by the 'hacks' list...

  17. Those Yoko's are absolutely cracking tyres! Don't last long thought do they  Looks f'in sweet mate. 8)

    wheel bearings

Weird, I found it easier using the old ones and a copper faced mallet, just made it easier to get the ring level....maybe I was using the wrong sized socket. Each to their own. :)

    wheel bearings

Couple of tips, use the old rings to bash the new ones in. Don't over-pack the taper bearings with grease and don't over tighten the hub nut, the washer behind should be moveable with gentle pressure from a screwdriver.
  20. Right the car just passed no problems at the second place, he said he has no problems with me getting the car inspected by VOSA so I'll be filing a complaint against Motorworld later this week.
  21. Cheers for the advice guys.....don't know what to do really. Don't want to drop the second place in it for giving me an MOT, but then again I don't want to let VW get away with it. This is what I get for going to a main dealer :roll
  22. Sorry didn't know which forum to put it under, just wanted to give a warning. VW motorworld WILL find something to charge you for if you go for an MOT there. :!: The MOT tester had gone home but the servicing manager was there, I said they were taking the piss failing it on that, he said fine lets go have a look. When we got to the car and inpected the discs he just looked kind of sheepish, but maintained they were cracked and that it must be in inner edge. So I made him put it up on ramps....inside edges looked exactly the same.....a few tiny hair-line cracks but nothing you wouldn't expect on drilled discs. After that he didn't want to talk to me anymore, just said he was backing the tester and his opinion was final. I got a VT17 MOT appeal form, but nothing more. By ministry do you mean a VOSA centre? To appeal I have to fill out a 4-page form, pay another MOT fee which is only refundable if I win my appeal, and I'm still not entitled to a refund of the original MOT fee. On top of that my MOT runs out on the 18th and I wouldn't be allowed to change the vehicle in any way until they've inspected it....so my car would probably be off the road for ages. So they've got me over a barrell really, takes the piss, you just have NO comeback. :( Anyway, I took it to the local garage I should've gone to in the first place, he took one look said they were fine and that he'd pass it, so I've booked it in there for an MOT. Costs the same as appealing but I'll definitely get a certificate and won't have to do without the car. Wish there was more I could do. :x
  23. Don't go to VW motorworld in Kidlington, near Oxford. I'll let the pics do the talking.... :x Now call me paranoid, but to me this looks like they went back and changed it later because they found nothing wrong. The discs are less than 12 months old.
  24. Probably not the same, but I was getting a high rpm misfire on my VR and it turned out to be a knackered plug. ;)
  25. Excellent. I presume to be sure I have to do a leak-down test, i.e. take the head off and fill the bores this oil and see if any seeps past the rings? I think I'll leave that test for the moment if that's how it's done ;) How much oil can a stem seal leak if a stem seal can leak oil?
