  4. Hi dbear Do you still have this? Let me know - mine has just made a snapping noise!!
  5. Thanks for the help guys - I've pm'd Wullie - judging by other people's questions about the group buy, it would suggest there are none left. If Wullie has non, I shall start looking at furniture drawer rollers - some of those use this type of wheel!!
  6. Need a bit of advice I have discovered my window will tip forward under a slight pressure and further investigation reveals that the plastic "wheel" that is attached to the end of one of the arms controlling the window lifting and lowering and runs along the runner under the glass has disappeared!! Having poked around in the bottom of the door I have been unable to track the wheel down. Am I going to have to replace the whole assembly, would I be able to just get this part, or has anyone got any suggestions for finding a replacement? Suggestions?
  7. Just picking up the "removing of snorkel" part of this thread - I removed mine of the VR box a few months ago and it has def improved the sound - more of a growl that has a second note around 3500rpm in 2nd!!! I'd spent plenty of time here and elsewhere looking at whether to go with a cone or drill holes etc and came across a post somewhere that mentioned a conversation with a K&N tech who said that the OE panel filters actually perform better than the K&N ones so I stopped looking and whipped the snorkel off for better noise!! I have a friend with a MK4 GTI with a CDA. He's very very jealous of the noise and simply can't keep up with my unfettered VR!
  8. Guys I need a diagnosis. Cleaning up the interior yesterday I discovered the driver side footwell carpet felt damp! "Drat, I think my heater matrix is having a few issues and needs retiring" (or words to that effect!) Having checked the source of the fluid and embarked on a taste and sniff inspection I am now confused. The fluid has not soaked the carpet, and seems to have slowly over time run down the crease/curve nearest the centre of the car and spread nearer the centre of the passenger footwell - it's only damp and not soaked and the fluid looks and feels like thin oil. It's producing oily residue when wiped off the carpet. Having squeezed my 6'5" bulk into the footwells on both side and removed lower dash and the footwell venting I found the source - it appears to be coming through the part of the venting where the windscreen vent mechanism is and possibly from a hole missing a screw in the fan trunking, all behind the lowest part of the dash. At the leak point it also and feels oily, and none of it tastes like coolant - yes I have compared! I have had the car since dec last year, and have problems throughout the colder months with playing the delicate adjustment of heat and fan in order to be able to see but have always been able to produce very hot and cool air and this leak/carpet issue has only just come about in the last week. I haven't been using stupid amounts of coolant - it's my daily and the amount hasn't increased that much in the last few hot weeks. Am I right in my initial assessment/tutting/swearing or could it be something else?
  9. Guys Anyone got a walk through for replacing the bowden cables on a later heater controls panel - my feet/face cable has broken from the control and appears to have disappeared inside the dash somewhere! Have rooted through the t'internet and am getting a couple of typed descriptions that aren't too clear (maybe its me!) Anyone able to help? ---------- Post added at 11:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:23 PM ---------- I guess I am going to need to know how to connect them to the vent flaps - will need to check the screen vents too!
  10. Thanks guys Will add it to my list of things to do whilst the sun is out and I can do it in the dry!!
  11. Has anyone had to access the seat motors - my passenger recline is not working. I know its not the switch - have already swapped the switch with the working driver seat and the up down is working on its own switch. For obvious reasons I don't want to start pulling at the leather to take the seat apart in an attempt to investigate problems - that will always lead to trouble!! Advice guys?
  12. Looks really tidy - I'd def be interested in a how to as well!
  13. Guys. My seal across the windscreen as lifted in the warm sun these last few days - about 10cm above the driver. Having read your responses above, am I right in thinking a bit of sealant can used to stick it back down?
  14. Seeing as there is a consistent theme of the late model heater dials breaking I was wondering if anyone has tried retro fitting the old model sliders to replace their dials - they appear to far more reliable. Its certainly something I would be interested in having a bash at but wouldn't know where to start. Anyone else had a go?

    Heater controls

There's no passat ones and the corrado ones are £80+. A lot for something that may go kaput again - sliders may be the way to go?

    Heater controls

Anyone got any details on swapping new version for old? I have temperamental (!!) dials, and other than selling the souls of one or two of my kids both passat and 'rado dials sets are proving hard to track down and if the sliders are as reliable as suggested maybe that's the way to go.
  17. Cool. Cant imagine the micropore tape holding one of my rear ones together will last for ever, so just one rear one would do.
  18. Do you still have the rear speakers? If so, how much with postage!
  19. 'Pies Do you know if the driver side light will fit UK passenger side - I only need the silvers from inside?
  20. Thanks for that. Yours was the first bit of information I had found that used the passat dials. I'm hoping it will be as easy as lubrication but your description is certainly clear enough for me to follow should it be more than that. Just got to get hold of the dials now! The fan speed is not an issue, just isn't effective on clearing the passenger side of the screen or heating the footwells - dash vents do work. A previous owner appears to have discovered the fragility of the dash tabs and surround! Thanks again - hopefully I will get through this with all tabs fingers vents and thumbs!!
  21. Hi I am considering on embarking on this journey in your footsteps with my heater controls. I haven't actually fiddled, fettled or removed and poked the three offending dials yet to make sure they are definitely in need of replacement/repair, but all three need varying levels of fonz technique when being used!! I ave two questions:- 1:My stumbling block and the first bit I need advice with, is what to replace them with; some discussions suggest the Golf MK3 set and some the Passat set, both of which have the dials in a different order which sparks my second question 2:does the order of the dials matter - are the mechanisms interchangeable into the 'rado faceplate? Or am I simply being a bit dim in that respect? I'd appreciate some advice - not being able keep my fair lady warm and enabling her to see is not helping to convince of why I love my car so much (I can't use the glorious engine note and acceleration as a selling point -that would just get me a scowl)
  22. Jim Have you got a photo of the fuse box with the fuse that has blown - moved my seat forward for a friend the other day so their little legs could reach the pedals and the electrics on the seat stopped working. Got the seat apart today and discovered the connector had been pulled (similar thing happened on my Mk4 Golf few years ago) - I've put it back together but not getting any response from switches I'm thinking it might be a fuse as all the wires seem intact but as I'm pretty confident the interior is not the original I'm not sure the wiring is going to be plugged into the right place. I have no other electrics out so am stumped so far! A photo would be dead handy if you knew which one it was that has blown. My fuse box doesn't seem to resemble the standard pics I keep finding on google! Cheers
