  1. It was running standard throughout. One or two of the other car sounded like they were breathing a little heavy, wouldn't be surprised if they were slightly modded. Either way the VR was never going to compete in an article based around the tweaked to hell Mini and RenNo Clit with 15 year newer tech and a load of hot hatches. The fact that the Corrado even got a look in is amazing. If they do a best compact GT of all time lets see how the ITR & Co fair then :-) I am still recovering from the line that mentions sliding my car! Now I know where my tread went.
  2. After a day of pics for the mag they took us out to the track at bedford, albeit the small track. I was behind the ITR, but not for long, I couldn't keep up on the all twisty track with a tiny straight... I should try and post the video.
  3. beat it? well it went through to the main test so I guess its more 'Evo' than the rado ;-)
  4. I took my rado to halfrauds and asked one of there 'trained' bods to test fit one in the back that I liked and it went in no probs at all. see pic. (before forum sticker was in picking distance)
  5. Thats my car! No issue arrived here :-( Any pics?
  6. :-D next time your anywhere further north let me know :-)
  7. G60SC_StoneyIf you do want those mags off me, your welcome to find away to get them to you :-)
  8. I spent more on 3 minis than 2 VR6s on spares/repairs/mods. They are a great laugh. IIRC The first coopers were actually modified by cooper garages (you'll not get one for your money) later ones used the later A+ injection engine, and had cooper stripes etc but all from rover. Then they started the works with 13" wheels, more power etc which were cooper garages again. I got through a few engines. One was alegedly running near 100bhp. it was bored to 1310, ported head, and massive carb. It was so quick off the mark. Eventually it broke all my engine and some subframe mounts and started to pull off the wings. Then its gear box blew. oh well only £150 for another engine... Going the cheap mini, tuned (bigger CC) engine route makes for big insurance but more fum... don't expect good mpg either. I have a huge collection of Mini Mags (80ish) with loads of info in them, they are yours if you want them for 1p. :-D oh and I am about to clear my garage of mini parts on to ebay too.
  9. Fastest I have ever driven was in my old rado VR6 (redlined 5th). Fastest car driven would be a Gallardo (though the F 550m would be close) Fastest cars I have been in are a couple of 911 Turbo's (996) one was being driven by a race driver (don't recall name) on a track v quickly. Other one was my in-laws, running the power pack (~450bhp) very much like a GT2, it was very very quick and made me feel ill @ cadwell. Sadly a tree ended that car. Quickest owned, oddly I still think my old VR6 was (felt) quicker than my Storm :?: had a GT Four Carlo Sainz for a while (company car tho) very quick off the mark, horid for overtaking.
  10. I have N 57ORM with a slight movement, everything else about the plate is standard. I don't agreed with dodgy fonts, big screw heads and the like to make different letters. I also wouldn't pay much for a plate either. Also, surely they are "personalised" or "cherished" plates rather than "Private"? If they were Private, nobody could see them ;-)
  11. I was at Prestwold last weekend. 550, Gallardo, New XK, DB9 and a 911 (997). Went there last year for 4x4, autotest, hot hatch, F360 & 355 and fast passenger lap in a 996 Turbo. Venue and Instructors are great, really help you push the cars. I must admit that the cars can be a little bit of a let down. Don't get me wrong they are all wonderful... just not as good as in your dreams. oh, I just don't get Ferrari's gated boxes and Gallardos are for short people with egos/complex. You should get a ticket yourself, well worth doing it once in your life, failing that feed you mrs some "dodgy" shell fish for a touch of food poisioning on the day ;-)
  12. On my old 10mile slow road commutes are used to get 300 miles per tank. I moved to a 33 mile journey to work and have experienced from 300 to 450 per tank. 450 is driving very eco, 400 is 70-80mph, 300 is spanking those pistons occasionally ;-) oh and 180 is when you go to a track btw Where do you put the 5th person in the Rado? ;-)
  13. Cool! So much of my youth sent rebuilding kerb smashed plastic cars! IIRC the lunchbox is just about the same car as the bettle, with a different shell, as was Blackfoot... except that didn't have oil filled dampers. I still have tamiya cars and parts in my parents loft I think :-) Striker and Sonic Fighter. I knew of someone with clod buster and avante. . . he was a rich kid. Neil G60 wasn't the Vanquish the avante without all the carbon fibre? 4x4 jobber? Ok, so in the last 2 weeks the forum has made me decide on my son's presents for about 12 years now... transformers...Tamiya Cars... let me guess, the next new thread will be about scalextrix? with its USB, V's computer racing, online racing hook up and lane changing....not that I have ever looked at these things.
  14. Maybe I should have cheated ;-) I am sure it will get a mention, the main writer seemed to like the C :-)
  15. I am proud the Corrado was even invited. They obviously excluded a great many cars to even come up with that line up. I asked about other MKs of Golf and they said they were close to including a MK2 GTi but never a 3 or 4. Nice to see no Calibra either. EVO rate the Corrado as a 5 star car, I think it will get a good right up, at least we don't have to wait too long to find out. The Tripod on the car trick was an eye opener, wind screen suckers clamps and gaffer tape... followed by a high speed (10mph) run with a photographer running along side with a finger on the button. The chase shots when boyle was in the MK1 were good fun, took very steady throttle control to get into position when they were on the other side of the road. No doubt looks mad to other road users :-)
  16. Today I took my Storm down to EVO to take part in an article, something along the lines of an all time FWD Group Test. The cars taking part were: Corrado VR6 Golf GTI MK1 205 GTI Lotus Elan S2 Focus RS Integra Type-R Barchetta Puma Golf GTI MK5 Clio Williams 106 Rallaye 306 Rallye Clio Trophy 172 Clio 197 MINI GP All the cars were took for "testing" on local roads, then we had to help with the pictures. Boyleonthebum got to drive the MK1 GTI, while we chased each other for the camera car, hopefully one of those shots gets into the mag. From this line up the main highlights to me had to be the Mini GP and the MK1 GTI. The GTI is the actual VW press office car, totally Mint and only 37k on the clock. The Mini is just mental...looks mental sounds mental! I need one :-) The 5 best that are going on for further testing were: Clio Williams, Integra, Clio Trophy, MK5 GTI, 205 GTI....sadly doesn't include the Corrado but you have to admit its stiff competition. It should be a really good article from such a good line up. Mag should be out in August (Corrado will be on top left of the cover picture..probably tiny in the back ground ;-)) To top it all off they let us loose on part of the circuit at Bedford Autodrome, will try and get the clips ripped and uploaded. Not sorted all the pics, Boyleonthebum should be able to contribute... heres a couple..
  17. Dam Boyle, you were quick off the mark! I think a new thread is in order...
  18. So here it is, back on the solitudes all clean for the run down to see Evo for the road tests and photo shoot.
  19. Bought a VAGCOM Killed 27 Spiders living on my car and convering it in webs overnight. Tried to burn as much fuel as poss on the way to work and back. Had a full valet, will put pics on my members thread. Filled up with Optimax, checked levels.. All ready for the Trip to see Evo.
  20. AARRRRRGGGGHHHHHH MY EYES AAARRGGHHH MY EYES.... I G....G.....G...Googled "Calibra" AARRGGHHHH I'M MELTING!!! Yes, the V6 was FWD..you live and you learn....thanks! I think.. ;-) here's some prime examples of what they say (on one site I saw) is one of the most "under rated cars of all time!" oh, Merc lights and small wheels....must be a photochop? http://www.rusnac-tuningx.tripod.com/id14.html think thats quite enough...
  21. Well, if there is a Calibra it would have to be a Kack Std 16v jobber as IIRC it was fwd whereas the Turbo was 4x4.... so no competition at all :-D I think a charger would be a bit obvious ;-) I have been very honest with my totally standard form.. if there are other similar aged cars there I bet a few have been chipped and had minor suspension mods..ah well.. I am sure the rado looks and the VR sound will win them over :-)
  22. Are those Flebay CD ROMs the full book though?
  23. :-D argh yeah, was thinking of the MK5 RS2000 escort..think that was a quick FWD hot hatch?
  24. Meeting at Bedford Autodrome on Wednesday(5th July), photos there and testing by them on local roads... which I think is good news as the track would highlight the Std Rado VR6's short comings all too much IMHO. If it performs well (I assume how much they like it in the absence of timing equipment) then I have to take it to North Wales for two days. Hopefully we won't be prevented from showing "spy" pics on here by Evo ;-). They seem to be in a hurry to do this article so I assume it is for a very near issue (apparently it will be the cover too) The good guys at Volkskraft had the car for a couple of days, for new brakes and a general check over... shes driving wonderful (tight, no rattles and everything works!) Got it booked for a serious valet and hand polish on Tues, may try and detail the engine bay :-) I really hope it does well and doesn't let the side down. (Forum Stickers installed now) Chubbybrown I am frantically try to get rid of as much fuel as poss so I can fill up on Optimax. I have found it make a huge difference in the VR. On the ferge of doing a 'ferris bullers day off' trick with the bricks......
