The sticker inside my fuel cap read "recommended 98 RON" All fuels here in the South of Ireland are either 95 or 97 Octance.
Got myself some NOS's octane boost, supposed to up octane by 7points.
See thread from Vage Site
http://cars.vage.ie/invision/index.php? ... bf0c84ca8e
Tried it in my VR6 along with a full tank of Texaco Super unleaded 97 octance and felt really quick. Also disconnected the battery for an hour after filling up. Then drove 300 miles to truly test her out. Well impressed. I have kept 2 bottles for the next rolling road and track day.
Got the stuff from http://www.motorspeed.com, £12 sterling a bottle.

Pic of my VR6 with standard rims plus H&R coilovers, lower about 30 mm all round. don't go too lower. its just make it look dumb

I'll buy one right away! Where do I sign up? :)

Agnews don't want to touch the timing job, no way they said.If it wasn't rattling or making loud noises they weren't interested in doing anything with it.
Parkes here in Sligo have replaced seals in the gearbox for me before and had no trouble removing the gearbox. They are gonna do the chains job for me. They have never done it before but I know the owner / chief mechanic personally and he is excellent at his work.
aye mate :)how much did agnews want for the timing job? Was reading a DIY on it and it looks do able alright. depends how much of a balls getting the box off is tho.

Sligo Ireland! Are u also a Paddy? lol
where you from dave? -
There is definitley no strange noises etc. I am totally for prevention rather than cure. There is 107k on my VR6 and want to get the belt and tensioners replaced before any kind of failures. I have never spared any expensive on making sure the car is tip top at all times. My local VW garage are mates of mine and we kind of operate on an barter system regards labour. They fix car and I fix computers! lol works out pretty good.
So, still looking for those MKIV parts number if any knows them. Cheers
Water pump belt and timing chain gear?Opposite ends of the engine!
You've made your mind up that you're gonna have the T/C done then? You didn't seem to think it was making any noises. I hope you've had it checked, this isn't a repair that you do "for fun"..

Sorry to bring this up again guys. My local VW garage are gonna replace my water pump belt and timing chain gear next week.
Can anyone give me the part numbers of the MKIV tensioner parts?
Should I bite the bullet and replace chain and guides aswell as the tensioners?
I'm getting the new VW chain for around €150 euros which is very little and the smaller chain for €70 euros.
Thanks,
Dave
Absolutely.MK4 tensioner parts are cheaper than the old stuff anyway.
MK4 upper tensioner - £6.50
Old part - £21
MK4 hydraulic/Spring tensioner - £20
Old hydraulic only part - £30
The rest of the chain gear is normal Corrado stuff. It's only the old top tensioner that causes problems and the chains can become slack.
To check them:-
Lift the rocker cover.
Check the chain span across the two cam wheels. It should be tight. If there's vertical play, the chains are worn. Mine had nearly 1cm vertical play
Remove the tensioning bolt from the back of the head with a 27mm socket.
Push the upper tensioner back and look for 2 deep scores and orange residude around the chains from the plethonic pad coating. Also check the upper two rivets that hold the plethonic pad to the metal backing plate. If they're scratched and you can see deep scoring on the pad, get some money together ASAP.
If you're at 100K or thereabouts and there's no visual wear, plan to do the job within the next 15-20K tops because the plethonic (resin) pad only takes about 10-15K to wear through once it starts pitting.

Yes you could have a problem there. If you're classed as a resident you will get the fright of your life when they tell you to get ur car registered here. VRT is a serious tarrif here.
-
Too right, try to insure it in the UK. I'm pretty sure you should be covered to drive here anyway on your UK policy. I know my Irish policy covers me to drive anywhere in Europe.
-
Dude you could get the shaft when u try to get insurance here on the emerald isle. I'm 27 with 6 years no claims and I'm payin E2000 on my VR6. I was paying E1800 last year on my G60.
Make sure you check out http://www.vage.ie and meet up with some of us Irish VW heads. Love to see another C join the gang.

VDO Gauge ClustersQuantum Mudflaps
I have been looking for the VDO gauges for my VR6 since, well ages! I have got my local vw garage to order them for me and they have put a "special" request through to germany. After 1 month with no reply they faxed through a request back to my local garage asking for my Chassis number and said that upon receipt of chassis number they will send out my new VDO gauges!!!! Hoping to have them next week.
I'll let you all know how i get on. :-P

I am running standard original VW brake pads and the dust off them is wicked. My mates Celica's wheels are never dirty to the extent mine get to. If I wash my wheels and dry them, a 50 mile trip and they're black as coal.
anyone know of a genuine low dust or no dust brake pads for the VR6 Corrado running standard brake system?
Thanks

Just another factor to throw into the melting pot... The clutch pedal doesnt have that springy feel when i release it, and it doesn't come all the way back up as it used to. It sort of stops midway, and to get it back, i have to get my foot around the back of the pedal and flip it back up. :?I had the exact same problem on my old G60 and my VR6 when I bought it. Same cure each time, slave cylinder. The rubber sleave part of it had torn and was taking in air on a pedal press and wouldn't release the pedal. Also had to put my foot under it to pull it back up.

sry Scott, not a patch not the corrado

I rang agnews in Belfast to enquire about replacing my chains and they said not to. If the car is ok and running fine without odd noises and serviced regular, there was nothing to worry about. Are they fobbing me off cos they don't want the hassle? Stealth and Ns Racing reckoned I should replace them asap. There is 102k miles on her now and everything appears to be perfect.

I have a MKIV Golf TDI for the last 5 years as a company car and used my G60 just on weekends. Left the job 6 months ago and now use the bicycle to get to work and just take out the VR6 on the weekends and when I feel like struttin! Lost almost a stone too already from the exercise but then I just live 10min cycle to work. May buy a van as a run around once the Irish Winter kicks in!
P.S James your Corrado is the coolest!

VR6 has been on test for just over two weeks now and since I have replaced engine relay 109 it hasn't cut out once!!!
If the webmaster wishes to close up this thread he may go right ahead.
Big thanks again to everyone and especially to kevhaywire and dr_mat.

Nice one guys, Removed relay 109 and it does have some corroison!!!!!! :-P
My local VW mates had a new one in stock and all, when mentioned to them they laughed knowingly and mentioned problems with earlier Passats.
I ran the car and then disconnected the relay 109 and low and behold is says
00545 029
Engine/gearbox electrical connection
Short to earth
Sporadic
17978 P1570 035
Engine control unit disabled
sporadic
I am going to test the car out for the next week and see how I get on. I will come back and let you guys know.
I have really found this to be the best damn forum on the web for help and advice. And its good when people come back and tell what has corrected their issues. Too many sites out there without the final solution been posted. Pesky Americans
Thanks all for your help!

Battery is putting out 13.5+ volts no problem. Where are the fuses and relays for the ECU? Are they with the standard fuses etc under dash on the drivers side?
Could a faulty G40 Sender cause the engine to shut off "Sporadically"?
Thanks all
First things first, supply voltage too low - if the ECU isn't getting a full voltage then all bets are off as to the validity of the remaining errors.Double check the fuses and relays for the ECU. The sensors themselves don't run through the fuse board, they are connected directly via the engine wiring loom to the ECU.

Roll on the bad news eh? Thanks Roger, will take a look at it this evening. See if its loose etc.
Some time ago my Passat suffered something similar, and it was diagnosed as a faulty fusebox. I was sceptical; the fusebox itself consists of a plastic moulding and lots of copper bars with no moving parts, and it cost nearly £200. All I can say is that the car was back to full operation after the transplant. Your problem may have a similar cause.Best wishes

Super Unleaded V
in Engine Bay
Posted
So hey Fat Tony, from reading that I really should be using 98 Octane in my VR6 so, as its written on the fuel cap......
Never knew using 95 octane could damage it. Going for super unleaded so from now on then!
