You should be able to fit a header unit yourself really. I've got some header unit removal tool sets for sale in my eBay shop. LINK

Difference between 1.8t blocks (ie. AGU) and G60 (PG) blocks

Welcome to the Forum! :D Post some pictures of your car in the members gallery section! Interesting idea, although it maybe easier to get a 20v head and build a 20v G60. Try posting this question on Dubforce.net in the turbo section. Voodoo Ray on there knows a fair bit about 20v internals. -

The opposite side is thicker though. There’s not much in it around 0.3 to 0.5mm, but when the edge is only around 1.5mm in its thickest place then 0.5mm smaller is quite a bit, 1/3 or 33%. -

More pictures, the red arrows point to where the displacer (is that the scroll?) is thinnest. Its hard to tell really looking at the pictures. The other side of the scroll is pretty mint. The main shaft is a bit fubar’ed though, rust and looks like there’s some wear on it. It my have some oil blockage issues inside the main shaft. I should be okay to use the shaft from my blown one though? What do you think? I only paid £240 including the shipping. So I think it’s pretty good really, worth a rebuild and should hopefully do another 20K or so. -

Charger arrived today. I've only seen the inside of a couple of chargers but seeing as it was an unknown it looks okay to me. The shaft has a little rust on it under the counter weight which should clean off. I don’t think it’s really a problem. I'll probably use the one from my old charger anyway. The outer casings are excellent, not thin near the apex seals, no major step, marks or anything. The scroll is a bit thin in one place where the apex seal goes. Also some marks on it. Check out the picture. What do you think? -
Insurance_jon from piston heads runs this; http://www.big-car.co.uk/ Has Strech Hummer, A8 and Lambo Another pistonhead; http://www.chauffeurdriveltd.com/ BMW's, etc

The 4.2 would be to short, it’s more suited to an 8v. I'd go for the 3.6 really. If you really want a short box though the 3.9 is what you should go for I reckon. Try messing around on an online gear ratio calculator. You should be able to get a box for about £150.
-
Just sold the 4.24 I had. Fitting it for someone now. If you want a 3.9 FD, you could buy a box from a breaker to get one. 3.9 FD is what’s in most 16v boxes isn’t it? Find some suitable gearbox codes and ring around. Also someone on here must have a 16v box they've removed from there car because the gear change syncro's have had it. The FD would still be okay in one.

Seen this guy on the pistonheads forum, worth a look! http://www.tangentperformance.co.uk/ He just bought the Lambo!

Yeah, I count 70 teeth on the G60 3.6 crown wheel I've got.

"if it comes apart it gets chromed" Nice!

The one with the models ace!

White on black is a general website design no, no. But it looks good to me and its easy to use. Is that how much 4 litres of mobile one is now! I thought it was about £36 or something.
-
So Lee, is your stuff at the chromers now?
-
Where all aiming at the same box though! G60 final drive with VR gears......

Interesting, but the charger still hasn’t arrived from US yet. So I cant start polishing it! :-( I'll polish it and then find out about chroming. Anyone no an electroplater in North Wales area? -
I've got a 3.6 fd with VR 1st, 2nd, G60 3rd, VR 4th and G60 Golf 5th. Which I thinks spot on for power around 200bhp. Good traction in 1st and 2nd, plenty of go in 3rd and 4th then a nice long fifth that keeps the revs low when cruising at motorway speeds. I had a 4.25 fd before and it was to short for me. I can see it being right for something with less power that revs higher.
-
I may have a 3.6 final drive available next week, which would lower your ratios to be more like a G60's. Some even go for a 3.9 FD in a VR. KevHaywire has a 3.6 final drive fitted to his VR I think.

That Jetta's fantastic! It looks like Lee and you have pretty similar tastes. Nice work lads!

Thats within my reach. uum, maybe a possibility. Would chrome take to a charger though? There made of magnesium alloy so I've know idea if that can be chromed or not. I'm sure I've seen a chromed charger before though.
