servicing - VAG or indepandant?

Recommended Posts

Its service time again! well actually its long overdue but nevermind :S Up til now the cars got full VW history, but, as its now 14 years old and not worth a great deal as it is, is it worth keeping up the VW service or saving a bit of cash and taking it to an independant? (pit stop in newcastle - been recomended by a couple of local C owners on the forum) surely its not going to make a huge difference to the value or its attractivness when the time comes to sell it?

if independant means Stealth racing i would say most def!!!!!!

but if u want to keep the car with the stamp's just get VW to do the oil change (think thats all thats needed)

Chris- another good bet and prob cheaper than pitstop is Volkspartz in Durham. The owner has a mystic blue 30k storm himself and the place is always full of Coarrdas and older porsches.

Great place and great prices. Did you go and have a look at that wheel refurb place in Sunderland in the end?

Main dealer histories are gonna lose their appeal anyway as with block exemption now cast to the history books even warrantied cars can be serviced anywhere. I have a Scooby with 1.5 years warranty left and I have have it serviced at an independant specialist, who I know does a much more thorough job than the main dealer monkeys. On a 14yr old car I wouldn't even consider main dealer.

Just do it yourself and keep recipts for the stuff. Thats all I do to prove its been serviced and on a 14yr old car most folk wont care.

Agreed- Main dealers are just overpaid idiots in my experience.

Reminds me of the time I went to the stealers to ask how much a basic service would be (ie the minimum required to get a dealer stamp) I explained to them I didn't want anything more doing cos I had everything else done by a specialist :)

When I was driving off the guy I said this to went into the showroom and pointed me out to the sales guys who were all pointing as I drove off- think I might have insulted them by implying they weren't specialists.

Anyway receptionist phones me back on Monday to book me in. After three attempts to explain to her that I wanted to choose my own oil (synta silver) and not have them use magnatec, I put the phone down, never turned up for the service and have never used a main dealer again

Agree with above, a mechanic working for a dealer is just a mechanic working for a garage.... a mechanic working for a specialist is doing it for a reason

i'm sure i replied to this before...odd...i've probably posted somewhere utterly random instead! oh well....

Dealer was cheaper than Pitstop, but i'll check out volkspartz and see what they can do. As for the wheel refurbers, its right next to where i work so I'll probably drop in this week at some point in between getting a tyre fitted and (hopfully) getting it in for a service. busy old week for my C!
