Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 3, 2004 my Pug kills 130bhp Golf TDi's with ease... Sorry but no way. Most 130s actually show 140/150 on the rollers with around 190/200 pounds torque.....and that's *before* you chip it up to 180/190 brake! I've driven a standard 306 TD, 206 HDi and 130 PD Golf and the Golf is a lot punchier than all of them.....just sh1t handling. Just my experiences
Shilakadaddy 0 Posted December 3, 2004 I have to admit that the tuning on a DTurbo transforms it.. after I did mine it did 0-60 in around 9.5 seconds ... which is quite impressive really  never raced a golf tho, so couldn't say how it would have performed against them
g-master 0 Posted December 3, 2004 Yup my TD has over 160lb ft torque at just 2200rpm.... Had a mate of mine at fuelling specialist 'mess with it' for me.... we estimate about 110-115bhp / 165lbft torque and that would enough till kill most 1.8 / 2.0 cars once moving in 2nd gear.... my Pug kills 130bhp Golf TDi's with ease... Although the clutch lasted two weeks after the playing  - new clutch now  Want to have a go at mine mate? it's only a 110 bhp cough cough! Apparently 170bhp is possible from this engine
Scott 0 Posted December 3, 2004 The PD 150 on the other hand is mental.... my mate has one in a Bora and its pulls away rather quickly from me
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 3, 2004 Ah, pulls away slowly now, you said *Kill* earlier? LOL, Only playing.... 306 definitely definitely handles better than the 206 and Golf..... no arguments there. The Golf can be made to handle OK though, it's just they're horribly underdamped from the factory. Mind you, I have driven a 130 PD Bora with the sport pack and that actually wasn't half bad you know.... pretty composed on nasty B roads surfaces......my C would be bouncing all over the place by comparison! I honestly reckon they will replace petrols as 'performance cars' in the future!!! Yeah my mates is the 150PD Bora with sport pack and it handles well... not quite up to par with my Pug but sticks on my tail through the bends... the Bora is heavy after all so wont be nimble as the pug... Even now the handling of the Pug amazes me considering after driving the FTO it feels totally soft and under damped but it sticks to the road like shit to a blanket  - just a shame its practically doing 30degrees when leaning over  - new dampers me thinks
samm_cvr6 0 Posted December 3, 2004 I went in a 172 cup and the thing can wheel spin like mad in 2nd! theres a few going round that have had the rear seats stripped out aswell and pushing 200+bhp so be careful! plastic front end may not be such a bad thing, BMW do it on some of their cars I think, helps get a more even weight balance. 0-60 the cup may well beat a VR but 1/4 mile should be a different story although still pretty close. g-master 0 Posted December 3, 2004 Ok mate my mistake! Last time mine was on the rollers it put out 156bhp and 262lb.ft torque. Like you say really is amazing how quick diesels are these days! Never thought i'd have one let alone like it!!!
chubbybrown 0 Posted December 3, 2004 So anyone thought about stripping out a vr6 I wonder what weight you could loose. :?:
sambo 0 Posted December 3, 2004 I'v strpiped out my previous valver, not sound deadning and carpets tho, and at inters it did 7.3 sec to 60mph and 16sec qtr mile, in damp conditions with blocked fuel pipe. I think i,v lost about 100 kilos! I'm on the lookout for shabby C to make a proper stripped out racer, i loved the way it went, handled and stoped! Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 3, 2004 So anyone thought about stripping out a vr6 I wonder what weight you could loose. :?:  Lots! I read up on a fully lightened MK2 race car once...he lost over 200 kilos. Thin plastic in place of the glass, no underseal or paint underneath (20Kgs lost there straight away!), very thin paint on the bodywork, no interior at all other than the speedo cluster and driver's seat, plastic wings and bonnet etc etc Mine weighs a lot more than a standard VR......too much dynamat, bigger wheels, sub box and other luxuries  My VGI and cams have probably restored it's speed back to standard again, LOL! Johnboy98 0 Posted March 3, 2005 Yeah youve gotta hand it to the "Arga" boys and especially the PD variety! My pal has got a A3 TDi PD thats producing 197 bhp and get this 312 lbs ft of torque and was pretty much killing (according to him) anything that was willing to try it on. He had been pestering me for months for us to go out for a blast even though my car has got a under fuelling prob at the mo I finally relented. 0-30 he was still right there with me then I started to see him fall away gradually but increasingly at a quicker rate right up to 120 ( only a short bit of dual carriageway) needless to say he was "GUTTED" afterall he is only 19, he is young but he will learn! We had dome some amatuer 0-60's in his car and I timmed a 7sec dead whilst he was driving and it stuck to the road like S*** to a blanket, with a little help from Mr Koni an 18" rims wrapped in Yokos's. Well impressed to be honest as he returns 40-50 mpg whilst driving it pretty damn hard.
samm_cvr6 0 Posted March 3, 2005 ahh, the tractor boys ay, that always hits a nerve with them lol! The PD's are not the most refined, quitest or smoothest diesels out there but they are probably the torquiest, all be it in a very unlinear fashion which is why the BMW dervs are more driveable. It is only a matter of time before I succumb to the dark side, I may trade in the VR for an Ibiza 130 and get that baby up to about 350pounds of torque. 8) :D
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 3, 2005 That's why the VR was able to pull away....because of the diesel's power delivery.... From rest, the VR is off and away and keeps going through the gears. The diesel on the other hand is Nothing, Everything, Nothing. So that 312 pounds of torque is only realised for a brief moment, which you can see when you follow one as they pull away from you a car length or two and they're reigned in again! The VR is able to spread it's torque across the entire rev range and Shrek, 268s, TB and chip is good for 225bhp....so MR VR did have a lot more power than the Audi. samm_cvr6 0 Posted March 3, 2005 I'm still not sure if my VR would beat a remapped 150PD in 1st and 2nd, but boy will I miss that lazy long gearing which is exactly why diesels will never fully replace petrols. Ultimatley I may get a 330D since it will be remapped, then it will be extremley quick & work out cheaper than running a run around and a performance car. Johnboy98 0 Posted March 3, 2005 Beamer is a tempting option but I would really miss that V6 burbling, howling then burbling again! but wouldnt dream of changing for A3 pd or Ibiza. I still get loads of compliments and positive comments made about the VR6, more I reckon than you would about any of the cars mentioned, because to be fair the Corrado is more than a bit special IMHO. Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 3, 2005 My mate should be getting his company 530d soon, so I'll report back on it's performance!
