dtjames 0 Posted January 5, 2005 I wish to brighten up the lights of the centre console in my C. They are currently VERY dim. There is some light there, but I was wondering how easy it is to add more. Has anyone else done this already please? Ta.
Phil K 0 Posted January 5, 2005 Do you mean the heater controls? These are notoriously bad... this is because there is only one bulb in the center dial designed to light the lot! You can get a higher power bulb which kinda helps but you still end up with a bight center and dull outer dials... I seem to remember Zarman has a kit that illuminates the dials better and I think this came up in A20 Lee's thread in the members gallery... Another way round this is to change your controls to those from a passat - not a straight swap but there is a how to on this I think. These don't suffer so much from poor illumination. dinkus 10 Posted January 5, 2005 The How-To on fitting the Passat dials is here - http://the-corrado.net/how-to/index.php ... ails&id=
dtjames 0 Posted January 5, 2005 There must be a way of better illuminating the C ones !!
fla 9 Posted January 7, 2005 I believe you can put some separate leds behind each dial - A20 Lee has tried this (IIRC), but if anyone has got a how-to please post it up.
potatonet 0 Posted January 8, 2005 what about G60 with slider controls, can I convert to VR6 controls?

Not got around to it yet, looking at the light guide on the back of the plastic panel i'm think about try to bond a surface mount led to them maybe with a pot to get the illumination right. Back at work now so my pi55ing around time has be reduced. Its easy to get the centre dial red. Remove the green light guide, stick a red filter behind the panel and attach to the dash minus the green bit.
fla 9 Posted January 12, 2005 Just a thought, if the green filter is replaced with a red one and the bulb is swopped for a higher wattage one (or a wide angle super high mcd led) that should provide decent enough illiumination (assuming the optics are ok). Anyone tried that at all? Or otherwise any comments? What are teh Zarman panels like as I cant tell much from the pic in your thread Lee? Come summertime I will be trying some new colours etc on the dash.
