heres some progress pics of my 16v g60 conversion

Ive decided to pull my 8v lump out and replace with a 16v.

Progress so far

Todays summary

After id just ripped the bumper off

ABCD0019-1.jpg

The 8v lumps last few moments before being taken out

ABCD0018-1.jpg

Charger off and slam panel etc

ABCD0017-2.jpg

And its out!

ABCD0014-1.jpg

Took about 2 hours, just need to paint in under the bay and sort the wiring out which is tommorrows mission.

Heres some progress pics of block

Heres the engine straight out of a 16v corrado 1.8 139bhp

ABCD0008-2.jpg

This is where i need to drill the block for oil return from the charger

ABCD0006-1.jpg

oil return fitted

ABCD0005-2.jpg

sump off

ABCD0011-2.jpg

New windage tray

ABCD0012-1.jpg

Bummer, it fouls the oil pump, out with the grinder

ABCD0010-2.jpg

It fits!

ABCD0009-2.jpg

just removed a bottom pulley from a 1.4 mk3 golf and its pretty much perfect alignment with the other pulleys!

No need to shave 6mm off!!! :smartass:

g60 on left, mk3 1.4 on right

ABCD0013-1.jpg

pic of the mk3 1.4 bottom pulley, i think i might actually sit in too far?

003.jpg

My belt arrangement using a vr6 alternator mounted under the charger then a few cam belt tensioners here and there

008.jpg

when the original tensioner is pushing down on the belt, it does actually spin the water pump pulley, although it doesnt look like it in pic.

My alternative way of re-using the original water flange thaat houses the sensors for ecu and dash, just need to make a blank for the open end.

Just picked up a CTN code gearbox from passat TDI, should allow much better traction and higher top speeds in every gear

heres the block with gearbox fitted

ABCD0009-3.jpg

got it sat in the bay

ABCD0008-3.jpg

had to cut the rad support for clearance for alternator

BogeysPooeysBirthday002.jpg

Stacked head gaskets

ABCD0007-2.jpg

Head on

ABCD0006-2.jpg

Got my flipped inlet, here it is

ABCD0013-2.jpg

I decided to cut up an old manifold i had, and cut the logo off to then glue on the new manifold so it looks more oem

ABCD0014-2.jpg

Where the top part of the manifold has been flipped over and welded, the throttlebody flange needs re-shaping as the small and big butterflys are now different sides. heres what material needs taking off

ABCD0011-3.jpg

I also took out this large lump that looks very restrictive for number 1 runner, and then match ported the throttlebody to the manifold

ABCD0012-2.jpg

Here it is fitted

ABCD0015-2.jpg

ABCD0016-2.jpg

need to move the coil down slightly to add more clearance for the throttlebody pipe.

16vg60006.jpg

16vg60001.jpg

Just got to route the boost hoses then put the front back on
