With a Phase 3 chip, a large FMIC, new plugs and an uprated fuel pressure regulator you can easily and reliably see over 300 BHP (with about 350 lb/ft torque) ...... All for around £600(ish)

Funnily enough, we saw a Calibra in Mansfield tonight, with a HUGE rice spoiler bolted onto the back.... felt like driving alongside of him, pointing in horror at his spoiler and saying something like "There's a problem with your spoiler mate, it looks shite!"

LOL@campaign

Doesnt i make you sick that for £600 they can get a 100+hp increase, for £600 we might just be abe to get our corrados to run at factory spec lol :p

The £600 for a 300bhp plus car is very achievable with any Calibra Turbo, but if we compared like for like with V6s, tuning a Calibra V6 is probably as expensive as tuning a Corrado VR6 - this is the benefit of forced aspiration.

The 4 wheel drive on a Calibra is cared for **properly** will outlast the rest of the car, they do need maintenance - e.g. regular fluid changes and tyre rotation. But the real benefit of the 4wd transmission on the Calibra is the intelligent aspect of it e.g. the ability to transfer all the drive to the rear wheels where necessary.

Also comes into the 0-60 argument - I can't see a 2wd production car getting enough traction to lay down the power to get a 6.2 0-60 time realistically - it would have to have HUGE midrange torque... also the 4x4 makes fast cornering and handling excellent - especially on lowered springs - so I believe a head to head on track times and RR would be a cool experiement.

Cheers

Old men who like young girls and smell a bit of wee and dress like porn stars with loads of rings on drive calibras round here. Otherwise they all drive 318is BMW's but corrados r popping up quiet a bit might have to sell mine and get a punto

Well M3s, Caterhams, 911s etc are all 2WD and easily get to 60 in 5 seconds or less. There's been plenty of FWD cars dipping under 6 seconds too, as proven on the GTI International 1/4 mile strip.

The trick is to avoid wheelspin on the take off and well setup suspension to prevent too much inertia throwing the weight backwards.

As for handling....FWD can be quicker than 4WD. Maurice Reeves wiped the floor with an Audi RS4 at Castle Coombe in his MK2 Golf. Having said that, the 4x4 Audis were banned from competing in the BTCC because their traction sheer mechanical grip were deemed unfair by the competition. At the end of the day, any car can be made to challenge convention with the right amount of know-how and funding.

The 911 and Corrado VR6 are classic cases of that.

911 - All that weight behind the rear axle acts like a pendulum and hampers progress - wrong. Years of development and evolution have produced one of the quickest A to B cars ever.

VR6 - All that weight over the front wheels leads to major understeer - wrong. The extra weight actually helps the front tyres bite the tarmac harder and the passive rear steering bushes mean the rear end follows faithfully. I've yet to get my standard VR6 out of shape on demanding roads - and that's before I even contemplate bigger anti-roll bards and konis etc.

Just my tuppence worth....

Just look at the dry tarmac rallies where the FWD Citreon Xsara's walked it ahead of all the 4wd beasts a few years ago.

Why dont we contact Top Gear and get a head to head going! Or is that too serious? We already know which car they prefer "what message are you sending the world when seen climbing out of a Calibra or a Probe...not good!"
