VR6 0 Posted April 28, 2005 Ok, so I've just had a full cat 1 alarm fitted (cheers Gav mate, you're a top bloke!). Rang up my insurance company to advise that I had no longer just got the cat 2 immob, but that I now had a much improved security system. And the effect on my premium? Eff all!!! How the hell can they have the nerve to charge more for something as ridiculous as a different grill, but as soon as you stick on extra security you get bugger all back for it?! Walesy 0 Posted April 28, 2005 they are scum...no two ways about it...there's no logic to insurance at all. I dont even want to think of how much they've had off me in the past (( over £3000 per year in some cases! )) yet the minute you need to use their services they are a bag of sh1te. h100vw 0 Posted April 28, 2005 I am not sure that scum covers it. Its a licence to print money. You can probably insure a 30 grand 911 for less. I paid 400 TPFT for a 3grand Golf. In the olden days, I paid £550 to insure a warmed up MK1 worth about £4000, my mate paid less to insure a £15K Escort Cosworth! How do they work that out? Walesy 0 Posted April 28, 2005 yip...it basicaly incites people to go driving around without insurance cos its such a rip off..thus causing a vicious circle where we all pay more due to the ammount of accidents that happen with uninsured drivers. im told that in Australia you get insurance with your tax for like a set fee typa thing...that sounds a bit more fair. Jim 2 Posted April 28, 2005 Tom.. i'm the exact same way mate. The insurance companies take the chuffing pi$$.. I had the exact same situation after my Saxo got broken into. Standard Saxo has a 'chip in the key' type immob, but obviously that presents no visual deterrant so about 2 weeks after I bought the car, someone did the locks in one sunny afternoon when I was out shopping. I was so peed off that I had the damage fixed and promptly got a Clifford Concept 300 installed. Surely the alarm warning stickers and blinking lights immediately warn the chav scum that my car is not as easy to tamper with and will be more of a challenge to break into, so that will deter them? Not according to the insurers. They told me because I already had the minimum required security, no other improvements would make a difference to my premium. Funny because for the remaining 11 or so months I owned it, it was never touched again.. regardless of where I parked it.. i'd like to think my little deterrent helped! So how far does it go? I have a totally standard unalarmed car that I park, for example, in a rough end of the city.. but because it has its cat2 immob thats enough? What if I had the car garaged, circled with an electric fence and watched over by 3 snipers?! Because i've got the bare minimum, is that not going to make any difference to the premium?! Its crazy but typical of the way companies are allowed to screw you here.
dr_mat 0 Posted April 28, 2005 Not enough tick-boxes on the forms they fill in, that's all. Look at it this way, if you have the minimum cat 2 immob, chances are that the only damage if anything happens will be door locks and/or ignition lock. Pretty trivial compared to replacing the car. A cat 1 alarm/immob makes little or no difference to the thief... He still doesn't get away with the car, but can just as easily punch the locks in and test if your flashing red light is real or not..

That's probably correct mate. I'll be able to confirm it after Christmas, I had my X-ray today and the medical is next thursday. If they don't spot the lobotomy we'll be in. Same deal in Germany, one of the number plate stickers is the registration which includes thrid party only. Your choice to pay for theft/damage cover. Chances of hitting an uninsured driver in Germany are pretty chuffing slim as the coppers are quite literally Na*is. Gavin
TomB 0 Posted April 29, 2005 I had exactly the same thing when I had my Cat 2 system replaced with a Cat 1, they are a bunch of ****nuggets. Still, even it it makes chuff all difference to them, at least your car is more difficult to pinch now. Cheers, Tom
