Top VR6 Mechanic Required

I am based in Surrey, but will travel. I am looking for someone who knows the Corrado VR6 inside out to solve an ongoing running problem that I have had for some time (engine cuts out, flatspot on accelerator etc). I have had several pieces replaced, but still have problems.

 

From the forum I have picked up:

 

1) German Auto Engineering, Portsmouth (Cornelius)

2) Darren aka G-man (http://www.pitstopdevelopments.com)

3) John 16vG60??

 

I just wanted to check if there was anybody else really close to me before I contacted Cornelius, who sounds to be the business.

Vince at Stealth is the godfather of the VR6, but it's up Northampton way, so not wildly close to you.

Stealth is closer to Coventry/Birmingham area than Northampton really.. but yeah, as dinkus says, there ain't a lot about VR6's that they don't know! :)

LOL.... I can certainly apply my 'usual' checks/fixes but can't guarantee anything....but I've sent a few VR6 customers home happy in the past :wink:

Keeping on topic though, AmD still know the VR6 engine pretty well.. they are based in Bicester in Oxfordshire. Their website is @ http://www.amdtechnik.com !

Hmmm, I'd rather insert wasps into my prosteria than take my VR6 to AmD. Stealth are only a stone's throw from Bicester and they have more enthusiasm, less arrogance and more knowledge than AmD.

Well AMD sorted my VR after several other unsuccessful attempts with a running problem from other garages so I'll always use them...ask for Craig.

You did OK then...but equally I know of people that left AmD with more problems than they went in with.

Stroller, Darren specialises in G60s and doesn't really take on VR work.

 

John 16vG60 is a more than helpful fellow who will look after your car and offer advice over the phone, etc. Warning, he can talk a bit, so ring him the cheapest way you can... lol

There's always Danny at MCM, [near Guildford]....hard to get hold of, but knows his stuff, and a nice guy to boot! :D

 

As for AmD, bunch of bandits. Took the VR there for a few things in November, including fitting the coilovers. Thought the car was sitting a bit strangely, so when I took it in to another garage, as I suspected, AmD had put the coilovers on about 5mm lower on the divers side, leaving the car lop sided!! ***** :mad: As well as having to put up with the attitude that you get from them, as kevhaywire says. AmD.....Never again.

Ah, so it's your VR that I saw in Danny's workshop, anubis - looks rather nice!

 

Yeah, if you can get through to Danny at MCM (might as well try getting blood from a stone!) then he def knows his stuff... Factor in having to clean your car afterwards though as his workshop is at the end of a muddy/dusty lane!

Thank you my man. AmD seriously are stuck up their own bum holes. They do chipping work (with 'creative figures') for their 'bread and butter' work across many marques but they know nothing of any value about the older VAG cars, such as the VR6. And besides which, half of AmD (Geoff Everett - Degree in Automotive electronics and co-founder of the company) left yonks ago!!! So what does that suggest?

 

I know of someone that found an AmD ratchet left under the bonnet and what was supposed to be a standard fuel gauge replacement on a VR, ended up with a white guage from a G60 - amongst the standard Orange VR6 guages.....the plums!

 

I'm sorry but I don't know where AmD get their reputation from but I for one am not believing their Bull Sh1t rechipping figures (and I can prove that) and I have no faith in their mechanical skills either.
