Barry Boys is I believe an Essex term as most of them seem to be called Barry. Or strangely Kevin ;)

It's a regional thing....

In Suffolk it's Gary boys, Boy racers, chavs....

In Essex it's Barrys, Bazzas, Barry boys, Kevs....

In the South West it's Trevs, Kevs, Bevs, Chevs....they like words that end in 'ev' down there you see....they drink too much cider....oooo arrrghh...

In Bristol things were always kept local, names given for people from rough parts of town:

Meaders - southmead

Bedmeys - bedminster

Wezzers - knowle west

Now everyone comes under the general heading of 'chav'. I still wanna know where 'chav' comes from!? I can't stand the bloody word, it's everywhere! but still, so are they..

Chav? It is believed to come from the mid-19th Century Romany word Chavi, meaning child. (amazing what you can find on Wikipedia while you're waiting for the traffic to die down... ;) )
